There was a story going around that an Arsenal fan walked into a Scouse bookies prior to kick off and put an enormous cash bet on 0-2. Hope that's true.
Good grief, knowing the way that Liverpool fans tend to hold a grudge, how long (in years) before he plucked up the courage to go and collect on that? Unless the bookies was run by an Everton fan in which case I'd imagine they gave him his winning with a hearty handshake

Didn't know for sure that we were safe until we were out of the ground afterwards. Living up near Manchester, I *STILL* get United fans having a go when they find out I'm a QPR fan.... "You let City win blah blah blah"
I will never believe that our players knew we were safe when that goal went in. I can still see Anton Ferdinand lying face down beating the turf with his fists after Aguero scored. Paddy Kenny & Clint Hill the same.
I will also never forget the reactions of the City fans around me. I was obviously not jumping around so I was just watching them going absolutely ballistic. That's what football can do to people and it's bloody marvellous.

I’m still in dispute with Ladbrokes about Qpr winning the only league cup final played over 2 legs in 1986.I had £5 on us at 25-1 at the start of the season.

Also was in the city end after my brother treated me and my cousin to corporate tickets which involved a lunch in a tent thing outside the ground - it was 99% city in the tent and my cousin (already well charged) asked a daft question about Rodney Marsh which did not go down well in the q and a at the end - as a result all the people round us in the game knew we were QPR and by the end of the game practically carried us out shoulder high such was the bonhomie - very odd day

Went up to Wakefield on Saturday and stayed with my cousin and her family. We all had the obligatory curry take-away & beer that evening.
Set off in the morning and rode down the M1 and then across the Peak District along the A628. Fancied that would be a nicer ride than the M62. It was. Glorious.
Got to the Etihad about an hour and a half before kick-off. parked up right outside the ground and even though I was close to the away entrance I took a walk right around the ground. I didn't wear visible colours , but had my QPR shirt under my zipped up motorbike jacket. The mood was quite buoyant as you'd expect but there was this strange air of "what if we fk it up". Despite our awful away record (got thumped 6-1 at Chelsea a couple of weeks before) the natives were a little anxious.
Well, we know how the game panned out. At half-time it was a case of "well, we're not being hammered and it's just one-nil, it's the Stoke v Bolton result that's more important".
Suffice to say when Barton decided to wage a one man war and got sent off we feared the worst. When both Cisse then Mackie scored it was bedlam. We, of course, didn't want to be the result that handed Man Utd the title but at the end of the day, fk it, it's our own situation that matters.
As the game got near to full time and it was an onslaught from City, the home fans were baying for our blood. I was only 6 seats away from the black netting so close enough to be getting the slit-throat gestures. Nice.
Then Djeko scored but would it be enough? Home fans still on edge. Staying 2-2 would almost be worse than it ending 1-2.
At this point there was real confusion as to what was going on at the Britannia. Many mixed messages going around including a rumour that Bolton had got a late penalty that could win it for then and seal our fate. Thankfully it wasn't true. "Why is my mate not texting me" I said to myself only finding out later on my phone had gone onto airplane mode so none of his texts were coming through.
Then everything seemed to happen in about 30 seconds. Our bench were going crazy (Stoke had drawn with Bolton) but we didn't know that and the players, contrary to the opinions (sic) of Man Utd fans, didn't seem to see it either as City were mounting a final last gasp attack after a poor throw in from SWP and then........... Augerooooooo!
City fans going mental, QPR fans in despair as a lot of us still didn't know about the Bolton result. I was kicking the chair in front of me as I thought that was it.
Word went around very quickly that Bolton had drawn and they were down, we were safe.
Suddenly it was a real party atmosphere, both sets of fans going delirious.... we were safe, they won the title, Man Utd hadn't. Everyone happy including the fans who had been giving us slit-throat gestures just a few minutes before were now wanting to hug us. Funny old game.
Most QPR fans stayed for the presentation and upon leaving I felt it was OK to unzip my bike jacket. Plenty of City fans giving me the thumbs up and I thumbed-up back.
God knows what it would have been like had they not won.
Amazing day and another curry when I got home that evening.
Of course, since then it's all been about that goal, that moment. Perfect fodder for Sky to feast upon for years. QPR get little credit for making that game what it was. It would have been completely dull had it just been an obligatory 4-0 home drubbing.
I still laugh when Utd fans even to this day think we backed off right at the end and 'let' City score. No way, no fkin' way. I remind them of their failure to beat both Everton at home and Wigan (fkin Wigan) away just a few weeks before, Just a win in one of those games or even a draw at Wigan and Utd would have won it. They didn't, ha!

Think I might have been the bloke with the radio listening to BBC Radio Lancashire which had Stoke v Bolton as their commentary game. Lost my phone when Mackie scored pure bedlam in the away end it got handed in to the club by someone on supporters coach went and collected it the next day. Remember cheering like a mad thing when the whistle blew at Stoke just as Hart was collecting the ball to start the final attack. Never seen scenes like the end both teams celebrating Got the train back to Euston stopped at Stoke and 2 young Bolton women got on had a good chat and drink trying to chat them up on way back . Sadly they were able to resist my charms

I was there in the 'Away' wheelchair user section. As usual I had my FM/AM portable radio & earphones listening to 5 Live throughout. This proved fortunate as everyone was struggling to get phone signals and I was keeping all around (not sure if you were one Dave B) updated on the Stoke v Bolton score.
Prior to the Mackie goal we all thought we had blown it, first when Citeh opened the scoring and again when Barton was sent off (for which I will never forgive him - absolute stupidity in such a crunch match for the Club).
When Mackie scored it was unbelievable and I thought we could hold on as we were defending superbly and Citeh were so nervous they were dreadful. I always thought Hughes should have put Adel on for the last few minutes as Citeh were throwing everyone forward and he would have been able to hold on to the ball and punish them or draw fouls. Instead we just kept kicking it down the pitch and giving it straight back to them so they could attack again.
When they equalised we again gave it back to them from the kick off but fortunately as they launched another attack, 5 Live confirmed Bolton had drawn with Stoke (Thank you Jonathan Walters) and I told all those around we were safe. We all started celebrating and it was shortly after Aguerro scored and most of us celebrated again. I know I, along with most, wanted Citeh to pip United if we were safe.
The only thing missing was a banner appearing in the Rangers end with "That's for you Ashley Young, you Cheating Barsteward''. Amazingly Dave Thomas in the preceding edition of AKUTR's had outlined his dream scenario of us knowing we were safe and handing Citeh a winner, just as that banner appeared. How close had he come to nailing it - Mystic Meg or what!
The atmosphere afterwards was amazing with both sets of fans celebrating together. I think many of us R's had empathy with the Citeh fans as they had recently been through tough times but still had fantastic support attending away games even when they were in League 2.
With the passage of time I sometimes think it would have been a fantastic achievement to hold on to a result that day and stay up thanks to our own efforts, but with subsequent Citeh titles it would all be forgotten now. Instead everyone who was there still has these great memories of being at the most amazing Premier League title finish ever. It will no doubt be discussed for years to come and I feel one of the privileged ones to have been there. For me, in my lifetime,it would only be eclipsed by Wembley 66 or Wembley 67 and I was too young to be at either of those.

Last 10 minutes we were under siege and it wasn't really a surprise when we conceded the equaliser. By that time, we knew Bolton had only drawn at Stoke and Man U had won at Sunderland. The players must have known about the Stoke-Bolton result. But then you had the last minute winner for City. Cue celebrations all round. Rangers and City. They'd won the league, pipping local rivals to the title. Oh dear, how sad, never mind. Rangers stayed up even if we were disappointed at losing from a good position.
Sidenote - I'd picked up a speeding fine from doing 38 in a 30 limit going through Stockport. And had to do a speed awareness course a couple of months later.

Reminds me of another day, Esox. We were up there in the late 80's and our coach broke down in the Moss Side opposite a pub with loads of City outside. There was a bit of a Western-style stand-off before we took a chance and went in and ordered some pints, only to be told they were on the house. Don't think we put our hands in our pockets for a couple of hours. It started a few years of getting on great with them. Always liked them. Funny lot.

Another City game, 4 or 5 of us went into one, like a barn, bugger all seats, mainly black clientele, but some of our group were so no bother.
Anyway, standing at the bar on my own, a rasta comes up, gives me a nudge and says 'Black'. I nod and keep drinking. Prods me, "Black". I nod and keep drinking Prods me a bit harder. Says "Black" a bit louder. "Ok mate, whatever, no problem" "Noooo, you wanna buy some........."

I had been doing a job in Genoa that week and didnt land back at Gatwick until about an hour and half before kick off. After much messing about, I realised I was never going to make it home to watch it so got off the train in Croydon and found the first pub to watch it. Bizarely full of 'City fans' who were no doubt former Arsenal and C*****a fans until City got the cash. Ended up drinking far too much surrounded by people who really had no idea what I had to celebrate
We went up the night before, as we had tickets to see Elvis Costello that night. Good gig, then afterwards we went to canal street (drop the c & the s is the old joke) to see all the drag queens. Then we end up in the casino and Andy wins about £500.
Next day, we meet a city mate of mine in a tiny pub (circus something) and alls good. Get to the ground, and Andy’s lost his ticket. bump into a bloke from the crown & sceptre and he says he has a spare ticket, which he gives to Andy.
it was all very friendly until Rooney scored a penalty for united. Rangers fans then start taunting the city fans and it all becomes very hostile. The walk back to the station would have been eventful if the score has remained as was.
Anyway, the rest is history as they say - great weekend

I remember a tinge of hope and pride (alcohol induced I suspect) when arriving at MCR PIC station. There was / is an upstairs bar full of rangers, flags etc. Plenty of You R’S etc. I really thought we’d do ok and stay up. Because of Stoke! Not us!
I can’t really remember how I got in. Maybe the ticket was via Mel. I really can’t remember mainly due to memory loss these days!!!!
It was a fun train trip back. Plenty of singing including with City fans.
Some of their fans were complete knobs but overall it was incredible.
People should be under no illusions, once Toure went off injured the game changed in our favour. If he stayed on the pitch we would have lost. Once the Stoke result came through we stopped which created the space for the third which annoyed me. Not because I hate United and preferred city to win the league but because I’m competitive. We were a bit unprofessional. We should have seen it out IMO.
I can still see in my mind in slow motion Mackie’s header. It was just one of those frozen in times moments ie like Sinclair against Barnsley or Spencer away to Port Vale.

Anyway not been for a few seasons now due to a very young family etc. But do read this from time to time so fair play Clive. It remains a great forum although a shame the politics hijack it from time to time making it a bit toxic. It should be a bit of fun! Amazing how people only post when we lose which says a lot about mentality. I do think the direction of travel the club is going is the right one - the model is good. I think back to Redknapp, Hughes and frankly the heart of the club died. Les and co are bringing it back which is great. I genuinely believe they have a flexible long term plan and that’s the key. Return us to the model of the 80’s and 90’s ie marginally better and nicer smelling shite! But ours. Not a play thing.

Aguero's goal was the least upsetting goal I have seen us concede in more than 40 years. I still don't like it though.
Up there for most annoying goals conceded are Hinchcliffe's last minute free kick for Everton - one of my mates said as he took it "Who the fcuk is Hinchcliffe?" - and a last minute headed goal at home to Coventry resulting in a 2-1 defeat - as the free kick was swung into the box another mate said "Oh well, a draw is ok."

A Grand Day Out Ran through a gamut of emotions from A To Z and a couple more. Train from Euston packed with Hoops Walking to the Etihad the road is packed Rangers and Citeh. Sunny day, every one’s happy, smiling and laughing. Mackie scores we’re 2 - 1 up ! Citeh fans not happy. Some very aggressive banter going down. The rest is a bit of a blur. Adrenaline and the bevies catching up with me. Outside the stadium everyone realising it’s been a great day. We stay up and City beat United to the title. Cue instant good will and friendship. A Grand Day Out

What a crazy day all round! Met up with Ealinghoop81 for a few pints at the Lass O’Gowrie. So pleased to have a drink there having read so much about it. The walk to the ground was a longer trek than I was expecting, but it was a lovely warm day and bumped into a few mates from R Block too on the way.
As others have mentioned, although I thought we were playing ok in the first half, City were clearly nervous. However Zabaleta’s goal settled them down and I thought, here we go for a tonking.
I stayed at my seat during half time despite thinking “I really need to go for a p*ss!” I thought it would be really crowded and I didn’t want to miss anything. Second half started, and a few minutes in I thought “Sack it, I need to go!” So I headed along the aisle, no doubt annoying a few people on the way, only then to see Cisse belt in the equaliser! Celebrated with the lads around me who promptly ordered me to stay right there!! Went back to my seat when Barton got sent off tho.
Went mad when Mackie scored and from then on it was pure backs against the wall defending from the Man City onslaught. Committed the sin of taking a picture of the scoreboard after 90 minutes thinking “surely we can’t cock it up now!” Of course we did, and I couldn’t tell for ages whether we were safe or not. I couldn’t get any signal from my phone.
Gradually it filtered through that we were safe. Stayed for the presentation. It was the most surreal yet amazing afternoon. I’d never celebrated like that after a loss before or since! We were cheering City winning the league and they were cheering us staying up and United not winning the league. We joined in with their songs, they joined in with ours. A weird footballing love in if ever there was one!
Walking back in colours relieved, that we were safe, not just cos we stayed up, but also cos had we won, the walk wouldn’t have been nearly as friendly!! We got plenty of cheers and thumbs up!
Headed home full of optimism for the coming season....!
