Really think Willock could be a player in the mold of Eze more so than Chair. Very good on the ball. Getting stronger and has great manipulation of the ball and space awareness to get out of difficult situations. Has a good football brain and can spot a pass. That’s interesting, wasn’t aware of that, I’m all for this data analysis stuff.
It does throw up a small glitch, the possibility of doing things arse over tit. Suspect those players could easily have found themselves in League One next season as I’d imagine the stats wouldn’t have suggested Austin, Johansen and De Vijs as signings which we’d all agree has saved our season.

I think the big lesson this season is don't judge too quickly. Whether it's the manager, the scouting, the players or whatever. Some of the hysteria from earlier this season would be embarrassing to those people if they read it again now.
Not all the players will be a success long term, but I think the strike rate from this season will be very high when we look back on it. Dieng (yes I know he was signed a while ago), Dickie, Willock, Field, Dykes and De Wijs are undoubtedly the real deal. Thomas has only had fleeting opportunities so can't be judged, but I liked yesterday's showing from him a lot. Jury's out on Bonne but again we have seen glimpses of quality and it's the job of the coaching staff to maximise that, but not one of the new players has made me think we are wasting our time.
Yes, Johansen and Austin have been key to our improvement, but those sort of players are needed to bring any team on, and there is no reason that we should give up on the idea that Dykes will be another Austin, or that Amos or Thomas could fill Johansen's role if needs be in the near future.
Knee jerk reactions and signings are what killed us in the Prem. We appear to have come on a long way from those days. |  | | |

I agree. And you can see how he's benefitted from the coaching he's had and the physical conditioning. He's much stronger and harder to push off the ball. He's also got more stamina, so that's helped improve his consistency. But his potential was obvious from the first couple of games and I think we did really well to spot it. |  | | |

I just wonder how many of the current squad that we will get to keep for much longer if they keep improving. You can be sure that a number of clubs will have been looking at some of our young players this year and the likes of Willock, Dickie and Dieng will be on their radar as possible transfers. Seems like a very long time indeed since we have been in this position.

Yep just checked. That’s the first time Willock has completed a full match for us. He did 88 mins a few weeks ago and 82 a while back other than that he was either subbed or a sub. He looked like he could keep playing for a week yesterday. [Post edited 11 Apr 2021 15:21]
