Just watched a video which is allegedly him torturing his cat. I have a cat and I love animals and I have to say watching that made me feel sick. What the actual f*ck possess someone to do that to a defenceless animal?

I think he could be in big trub and rightly so.

I see that Dagenham & Redbridge have suspended his brother, Yoan with immediate effect for filming the video. He will not play for them until the conclusion of the RSPCA investigation and then they will act on the conclusions drawn.

Good on Dagenham & Redbridge for doing the right thing. Shame that West Ham are such a pile of sh*t.

Had West Ham been mid table I bet they would have dropped their Zouma too. Whilst they have a sniff at Champions League football (which will justify everything the owners have done) "they need to keep playing their best players". Football morals indeed. Too much money has seen so many incidents of appalling player behaviour and they get away with it on the whole.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Moyes had been told not to drop him.

I don't think David Sullivan has been interested in pussy welfare for years.

Yeah, I can see there is a big difference, and clearly it is easier to focus on the cruelty of one incident, but I was just wondering if other people share my feeling that factory farming is much crueller and on a much bigger scale. Or am I alone on that?

Completely different conversation though really. Battery farming is clearly unethical. But this nonsense I'm seeing a lot of where people say you shouldn't be outraged at what Kurt Zouma did if you eat meat and fish, to me is like saying you can't condemn dickheads who start forest fires if you use a log-burner at home.

Its the classic strawman argument to deflect, and most people doing it that I see are people who support West Ham. Don't think I know a single non-Wham fan who isn't utterly appalled by the whole thing.

A similar one I've seen is comparing Zouma to jockeys whipping horse races - the fact that the make up and use of whips is heavily regulated with punishments dished out for wrongdoing by the governing bodies is lost on them.

I think the problem was more the timing than ever playing him again, as it was just a day later it did seem a bit daft to pick him and it just added fuel to the fire

I can sort of see where Moyes was coming from in that the player had apologised, been fined, lost sponsorship deals and had his cats taken away so when do you stop with the punishment's and move on but really though should have waited a week and let the story calm down before picking him again

If it was me or you in our jobs Dave we'd be fired, so he hasn't really lost out on much at all.

If he's sacked is that him done he can never play football again?

I'm just not sure where you stop with it. He's had a massive fine, reputation is pretty much ruined and still a possible criminal charge to come as well, players have been forgiven and allowed to play again after rapes, sexual assaults and racism so it would be a bold move to kick him out of football completely. I'm not for a second trying to defend him here, the bloke is a prat but I'm not sure how much more can be done really.

He can still receive a custodial sentence up to 4 years in France for what he done. The French authorities are already investigating.

West Ham boss David Moyes says Kurt Zouma is available for Sunday's game at Leicester amid the controversy of the defender being filmed kicking his cat.

Animal charity the RSPCA has removed the 27-year-old's two cats as they investigate the incident.

Moyes was criticised for picking Zouma against Watford on Tuesday after the video of the defender emerged.

"There are different views whether he should be available. We decided he should. I stand by that," said Moyes.

Zouma has been fined the maximum amount possible by the Hammers, with the fee being donated to animal welfare charities.

"I don't think a club could have taken action any quicker than they've done at the moment. West Ham have done a really good job," added Moyes.

"I'm not condoning him, his actions were terrible. They were diabolical but we've chosen to play him and we stand by that.

"We will get him some help. We are trying to do as much as we can as a club, as a team, to help him.

"Like people who maybe have drink-driving offences, most of them have to go to classes to learn the reasons and the damage that can be done.

"I think RSPCA are going to provide us some courses for Kurt to understand about animals and how to treat them.

"He's incredibly remorseful. Like everybody else, in life sometimes you need a bit of forgiveness. He's hoping he is forgiven for a bad action."

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

I'm with you Dave. He's been given the maximum fine by his club, he's been publicly shamed on a huge scale, he's got to live with the knowledge that most people think he's done something terrible and that he'll always be known as the bloke that abused his cats. He's probably got a prosecution to look forward to, he's lost his boot sponsors, and although I'm sure he's not fussed, he's also had the family pets taken away from him. He'll get loads of grief for it from opposition fans and loads of West Ham fans want him out of the club. Not looking to downplay his behaviour, but that's probably enough to be getting on with on the punishment front, isn't it?

At the end of the day he kicked a cat.

This is in the same world where small children are starving to death in Afghanistan.

I think everybody needs to get a grip. F**k me.

Really late take here, but I just have to say it, since the thread continues to have life here...

I love animals. I'm the son of a veterinarian. I'm a longtime cat owner who later in life also has come to truly understand the phrase "man's best friend" since adopting the 11 pounds of ferocity you see in my avatar.

I was irate when I saw the Zouma video. Yet I don't demand he's sacked, permanently banned, whatever. I'm glad he got fined the amount he did (even if it's just two weeks' wages to him, it will make a greater impact in the hands of others). I'm glad he'll take heat going forward from football supporters (even some who love Wham).

What still has me a bit short-circuited, days later: how did we get to the end result of him playing Tuesday, while we were all in the heat of the fcking moment? (I know the answer, I just don't like it, I guess!)

It bothers me that a player who picks up a mundane red card offense (something related to handball, let's say, rather than violent conduct) faces stronger sanctions by his employer than a player who is nailed-on guilty of animal abuse.

I was so frazzled I bothered to "@" Tom Rennie (who was coming off a bit smug about it all) on Twitter with my thoughts. Clearly coming unraveled over here, yeah?!?

West Ham and zouma's sponsors leaving them because they don't want to be associated with this disgusting abuse.
If only TV's sponsor's had the same standards, football and this country would be in a far better place

West ham physio just released a statement stating that Zouma has cat scratch fever and we’re monitoring the situation. He also added he was being checked for fleas and alas needed de worming.
