Do you ever get the feeling… 17:57 - May 22 with 5518 viewsstevec

… the Premier League is choreographed?

It’s more like 1970’s wrestling .

I thought it was a brilliant final day, I know we like to turn our noses up at the premier league but that was brilliant today.

City bottling it and going 2 down then turning it around. Liverpool struggling to beat Wolves but keeping the title race going until the last minute. Leeds staying up with a last minute goal. Even 4th place went to the last day.

Last time Liverpool came from a goal down to beat Wolves 3-1 on the final game of the season was 1976 when they pipped us to the title. Of course it happened before Sky so you won't hear about it. They won't refer back any further than Augerooooooooooooooooo

You should know football started in 1992/93

I just don't know what people want from football if a day like yesterday with some brilliant teams pushing each other till the last kick of the season is complained about.

if it was scripted them Liverpool would have won it with a last minute Villa equaliser

fair points Dave but I just think people are a bit bored of the whole Premier League band wagon now? It isn't real anymore... Its a sort of computer game with a Hollywood ending and Sky shoving down your throats every 5 minutes. Lots of fireworks and tinsel as the cup is lifted followed by Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher for the next 6 hours... I'm going to sound like the proper old git (that I am) but the Premier League peacked in the late 90's.... Now its just the same as F1 or IPL cricket or the latest Top Gun movie... All big and shiny where everything is perfect and no one has a hair out of place.

Bit negative this thread.

No matter your stance on the premier league, yesterday was thrilling and showed the best of football in my opinion

I know what you mean and I'm not a big fan of the league but it feels real to me, some weeks/seasons it's crap and an anti climax others very exciting same as our league really and any other. Yesterday was an enjoyable one to watch, I didn't particularly care who won it just wanted to see some chaos and it delivered.

Pedantic point, Leeds were staying up with the draw.

I haven't watched a PL game since I sent my Sky subscription back around 4 years ago. As an analogy, it is similar to rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic after the iceberg has been hit.
If QPR stayed in the Championship for every season until I shuffled off this mortal coil I wouldn't be disappointed in the least; I like our league.

The grass is always greener.

Fixed? I was at a match a few years back, Sky all over it, biggest game in the world. Massive club playing serial under-acheivers. Pretty much one way traffic, under achievers, go a man down and win in the dying seconds - Zaaammmmmmorrra.

I hate what Sky has done to football so usually just turn on at kick off and turn the sound down, even for our games.

Predictable but not fixed.

My problem with it is what lies behind the success of City: sportswashing that has clearly contravened FFP. For me, that invalidates all the drama, chaos and yes, genuine skill. Look at the state of our club and how we are stymied by keeping to FFP, yet the likes of City and PSG can seemingly do what they like. It makes a mockery of everything.

There's also the hypocrisy of the football world in lauding the triumphs of a club for decades, then doing a volte face when they are suddenly deemed beyond the pale - see Chelsea. Not sure what the Saudis would have to do for Eddie Howe to comment - possibly destroy Alderaan.

I had it on on the radio and a 3-way conversation going with a Leeds supporting friend and a Liverpool supporting friend. The Liverpool supporter seemed relieved at the end that they hadn't lost the league on goal difference and the Leeds supporter quite predictably went from talking up the Championship to saying that "the EPL is where it's at".

I was far more interested in the relegation battles though, and thought it was ridiculous how little Burnley's game got covered. I do understand the reasons, but the impact of that loss will be far greater than whatever was going to happen to Liverpool or City.

All of which boils down, I think, to how closely I at least relate the premier league to our most recent fortunes in it - a closed shop at the top and a hard slog at the bottom that totally belies any of the glamour that gets talked about. But so many things seem full of shit these days it's hard to tell if it's them or me. (It's them of course. : )... )

They were but Burnley still had 5 mins left so without that goal a draw for Burnley keeps them up and makes their last few minutes a very different game.

I don't disagree with the complaints about where the money comes from etc, but thats not going to change now. I quite enjoyed that despite all the money they all spend they have no more control over these sort of days that football brings up than a team who is skint. It's not often in any league you get much riding on the final game so it was very entertaining to see it all unfold yesterday,

.... When City and Liverpool drew a few weeks back I knew City would win the title. When the relegation battle became between Burnley, Everton and the Champions of Europe it was obvious Burnley were going down.
I hear what you are saying Dave and yes I did get slightly excited when City went 2-0 down but as soon as they got a goal back I gave up on it. It was a "I'll never get back those 2 hours" moment for me.

As good as the last day shenanigans went there are a couple of things we can predict, for next season, with plenty of confidence.
1. This year's top 6 will be next years top 6. Just struggle with the sequence.
2. 2 out of the 3 relegated will be the sides promoted from Championship

It was a cracking last day but there was an air of inevitably about it.
They've won it Four out of the last five years and are likely to win it again next year.
Liverpool have spent big but can account for it.
Diaz at 40 odd million. Two wing backs who cost 8 million are examples of good spending.
Dread to think how much city have spent on full backs alone.
I'm not a big fan of either clubs but somebody plays by the rules and it ain't city.
Halland comes in next season makes them better.
It's success that's bought on an industrial scale. They'll be investigated again and again.
Nothing will happen.
I love the division we're in . Shit referees aside it's competitive and is kept interesting for most of the season.
Premier leauge is like groundhog day. Year after year.

What eats my p1ss is citeh are all that is wrong with football these days but I had to cheer them on yesterday as the thought of hearing about Liverpool winning the quadruple for the next fcking hundred years would be unbearable !
If it wasn’t citeh then the options are

Che… young lads for hire Obviously not !
Manure Nope
Arsenal Nope
Hotspurs I don’t actually mind tbh , lots of family and friend connections and they are a bit like a bigger version of us when they go all spursy but 1982 still irks me a bit !
So onto the rest potential candidates
Spam they won the World Cup you know by themselfs the cheeky little cockneys. Nope
Newcastle soon to be in the mix massive massive club with lots of fans that the media think deserve this and deserve that because they have a million fans turn up every week just make me want to vomit at the thought of it

At the same time , I don’t want any of the smaller clubs doing well like palarse etc as they are leaving us further and further behind

Oh forgot about dirty lids … ffs they still actually believe they won the European cup once NO
