I did a quick search but could not find a thread about this topic so here goes.
Saturday morning I was installing a vinyl plank floor in a commercial building .I have been in construction for 30 years and never came close to this fiasco.
I was shaving a piece to put by the wall when the blade caught my left thumb and savaged the flesh .I had a glove on and it was shredded but actually saved more damage .I went next door to a bakery and a kid drove to to the hospital.
The glove clogged up the cut so the blood was not pouring but by Jesus I paid for that later.
The doctor injected the base of the thumb but had to inject the cut to numb it and that was by far the greatest pain I have ever known .( I had kidney stones once and this was worse )
He stitched it up but going in today to check nerve damage and bone issues and despite pain pills not 5 minutes of sleep undisturbed since saturday .
Never underestimate the value of your left thumb its without doubt the cog that moves the wheel.
He casually mentioned the margin between the cut I recieved and complete loss of my thumb was my early christmas miracle since that saw is merciless and he was stunned I had got away .

As a kid got I got a summer job in a plastics factory on Latimer Road. Was asked to chop up waste plastic on a bandsaw. Got bored and started daydreaming until I looked down to see blood pouring out of tip of my thumb. Taken to hospital and didn't even have on stitch, but still have a small scar.
When I got back, the regular workers showed me their injuries. Loads of scars and a few missing digits. | | | |

Spent 3 1/2 years working in the lab for a paint & ink manufacturer and managed to avoid any injuries but have worked in an office since so that should be a less hazardous place to be.
A couple of things do spring to mind..... one of the suspended ceiling tiles looked like it was leaking a bit so my then boss asked me to stand underneath it with a bucket while he prodded it with the stick end of a broom. The whole lot came down on me and whacked my nose. Luckily nothing broken but it didn't half hurt and I was covered in wet pieces of ceiling tile.
Around the same time I partially sat down on a typical office chair, the type with the rollers at the bottom but unknown to me one of the screws holding the seat to the cross-frame had come out so my finger slotted between the two just as I tucked the chair in then sat down with my full weight onto it and squished my finger between the seat and the metal frame.
Claret everywhere but luckily nothing broken or end up being scarred.
That's about it really, nothing too exciting.

Not workplace related but I fell asleep behind the wheel on the M6 and was woken up by those rumble strip things. I corrected, in a panic, and when I looked at my speedometer I was doing 105MPH.
Felt like I dodged a bullet that day. |  |

I was using a small angle grinder with my hair down (I can't remember why, hair elastic may have broken) so cut the metal, switched it off and stood back imediately knowing I'd fked up.
The still spinning blade got caught in my hair and wound around it until the motor hit me in the face, so I was left there with an angle grinder hanging from my head like some steampunk Voodoo charm.
My mate saw the whole thing and had to unwind it, saying 15 years on building sites he'd never seen anything like that! [Post edited 21 Nov 2023 16:30]

Missed the King's Cross tube fire when I changed my commute home.
Missed the 2019 Sri Lanka hotel bombings, because when Mrs. PH and I were selecting when to go, we changed our date by a week. At the time the bombs went off, we had left.
I have twice been sat in the front passenger seat when the car was hit in that area. Both cars were written off, thankfully I walked away unscathed. |  |

Walking along the 10th floor of the concrete slab on the new AA building in Basingstoke I trod on a nail with my left foot, yelped and jumped up In the air with the bastard 4X2 attached to my left foot, I then trod on another nail when my one remaining good foot (the right one) landed on another discarded bastard 4X2
Nothing to do with me but about a Month after that we went on strike and stayed on strike for 10 weeks, early 1970's.
Whilst 'moonlighting' I was working with my Brother in law striking the shuttering of a concrete staircase the both of us had shuttered and concreted, i was sat on the step with a nail bar removing the riser shuttering, one of the risers wouldn't let go and the nail bar slipped and smashed me straight in the face, spurty blood time, MOFO near killed me.
Whilst helping our carpenters load out doors on a big site In Reading I was carrying a door across my back when I slipped down a narrow trench, I was In agony and literally couldn't move. I got ambulanced to hospital, X--rayed and I was informed that the base of my spine had been bent by the cause of my impact.
Nothing could be done to improve my spine other than physiotherapy, I still suffer with my back after 40 odd years.
Me and our site Engineer administered first aid to one of the steel fixers late one afternoon but try as we might he died right there and then, I can still to this day remember feeling his pulse before he died, awful experience, as were were both 'staff' we were both trained ''First Aid At Workers'' |  |

In 1986 (18 yrs old) I worked for a company called Orbit Valves. They were based down Swallowfield Way in Hayes, I was pressure testing a valve in a tank of water in front of the inspector who was working for Occidental.
On Friday 20th June 1986 at 4.10pm (finished at 4.30pm) I tested the last valve that day. The flanges at either end had the bolts broke and a gas explosion injured me (loss of sight in right eye approx 80-90% and other injuries not serious). The inspector, who actually should not have been there but was covering for the other inspector that had called in sick died 4 days later of internal injuries. The company was fined 2k for each person (The Inspector and me). It was found that the gauges measuring the pressure were not in calibration and that the pump was too coarse in raising the pressure. The valve was rated at 800 psi and the H & Saftey calculated that the bolts broke at over a 1000 psi.
At the time i was playing for QPR supporters club. If anyone knew Keith (first team manager) and Mick (reserves) back then.
I had to just rest ( Hospital for 11 days) and was instructed not to go back to any sport for 3 months. When I tried to go back I was getting dizzy and my depth perception was all over the place. Didn't play again until 6 years later.
I was also due to go on my first boys holiday the following day to Ibiza, which selfishly at the time I was more worried about.
I get an industrial Injuries benefit which started when I was 19 and it is for life but obviously I would want my full eye sight back.
It is something I think about often as to if I had waited slightly longer and not tested one more valve my life might have been very different and the inspector would not have died. [Post edited 21 Nov 2023 18:43]

Not me, but one of our fitters,was about 40 feet up,in a cherry picker,releasing pressure from a stuck valve,a job he had done hundreds of times,he must of cracked the valve too much sending blue newspaper ink into his face.he was wearing safety goggles over the top of his glasses,but the pressure has left him permanently tattooed blue around both eyes,luckily after a few weeks he regained full sight,watching him scream and try to get down was horrendous. | | | |

Had my own car workshop in a complex of similar buildings in Orpington in the seventies.
One night I was working late with my brother when we heard a distinct "thump" from the workshop next door - knew what it was,one of those poxy Salamander waste oil heaters that hadn't been properly extinguished and decides to reignite.The flames start burning through the roof so I demolish the heavy corrugated iron doors manually,fortunately I was a big strong lad then - 20 stone - just got inside to see the flames licking at the bottles of Oxy Acetylene,grabbed a bucket of water and chucked it at the Salamander only to find the leccy was still on and it came to shake me by the hand.Nasty 3 Phase jolt which threw me across the shop but at least the fire was out.Next morning we surveyed the damage,the owner kept looking at the mangled doors and then back at me in a sort of stunned amazement. 
That fire could have demolished the whole complex.I've seen those bottles take off before,go up to quite a prodigious height they do.
And did I get any thanks for my heroic efforts?

Not really work related but when on day release during a technical drawing class the teacher left and two off us had a pretend sword fight using the scalpels used for scratching out the ink when he slashed at me catching me across the wrist luckily just missing the main artery, I needed 8 internal and 12 external stitches.
Still very visible scar some 40 odd years later! | | | |

Never had any accidents as an office worker, but my Dad told me about loads.
One time riding on a tunnelling machine on the Victoria line he felt something snap and instinctively jumped back. The guy next to him didn’t and his hand was trapped when a bar swung free and pinned him to the machine. He was screaming for the 90 minutes it took for a doctor to come and amputate his hand to free him.
Another time he had to break an old toilet with a lump hammer to get it out of a house. He neatly reassembled it in the yard before it could be taken away. Another lad saw it dropped his trousers and squatted down. The toilet fell apart and cut his arse to ribbons. |  | | |

Saw some poor guy get his hand crushed while trying to untangle chains from a crane. The crane pulled up while his hand was still between the chains. Pretty messy.
Ive fallen through floors a couple of times ,luckily managing to grab something each time so not to fall through.
Watched a plumber casually cut through a piro cable with a junior hacksaw while the foreman was telling him to hurry up. They thought it was a gas pipe. He got a massive shock !!. He lived somehow. | |

Having worked in the construction industry my whole life, I have seen, experienced or dealt with a boat load of injuries and fatalities. Reminds me of when my brother's mates were in a car that flipped one night after the driver clipped the kerb going around a roundabout too quickly, the car landing in someone's front garden. All walked away pretty much unscathed, including one guy who was thrown through the open window of the car as it happened. | | | |

@DTIG I agree the pain of kidney stones is intense for a prolonged period of time until you get meds but sticking a needle into a cut 2 times to numb it was revolting and I almost threw up there and then I pray nobody else has to endure that .
@Hayesboy I am sorry what happened to you and the loss of your work mates life sickening @Ted Hendrix sorry you have suffered so much and also had a worker die is heartbreaking .
I got off lightly the bone is not damaged and the verves should come back but an infection is setting in due to the ER doctor not giving me anti infection pills during the initial visit.
