We all want football played out from the back but this particular keeper is not capable of doing it .

Nice to see a report where we actually won a game we were expected to win. To be fair to Rotherham they had to start on the front foot and get the lead to test our fragility to recover when we concede first and see if we fell away.
In a strange sort of way because we started so poorly we could only improve so rather than lose our way we galvanised. We need to do this more often as better teams than Rotherham will score first in upcoming games.
People talk about hospital balls in football but Chair's effort for their goal looked like a prison ball. He certainly played it as if he had a ball and chain around his ankle. Looked as though his mind wasn't quite on the game at the start. It would have been quite funny if it wasn't for the seriousness of our situation. |  | | |

This then ends up with another defender receiving the ball under pressure and we cough up possession in a dangerous position. We need to be moving the ball quicker so that players receiving the ball have more time to make a decision. | |

A lot of the issues we have had early on in recent games around trying to play out from the back, are caused by the number of touches Begovic, Cook and Clarke Salter take and how slowly they move the ball - Begovic in particular takes too much time.
This then ends up with another defender receiving the ball under pressure and we cough up possession in a dangerous position. We need to be moving the ball quicker so that players receiving the ball have more time to make a decision. |
Begovic also, and he did this a lot in the first 10 yesterday, has a horrid habit of passing the ball behind the player, so he has to check, turn round, take an extra touch or two, all the time slowing it down. He's a big issue for us in trying to play this way. If we stay up and Cifuentes is manager next year a goalkeeper of half the age and expense who's actually able to pass a ball to a man in stride would make an enormous difference. | | | |

I completely agree that Willock was MOTM…but it leaves a nasty taste admitting it.
The guy’s attitude has been shocking in the past year, and either he is being a complete mercenary about his contract or his team are promising a pot of gold in the summer. He clearly hated Gareth Ainsworth and his methods, but he is a professional footballer not a school kid so he should still have competed.
He has looked completely half arsed for ages…and then the last couple of weeks. Simply superb.
Have you noticed how Marti has his arm around him at every moment laughing and joking - so clearly he has seen the benefit a decent performance from this moody git can bring.
I now guess we all have to hold our nose and put up with pandering to him whilst he plays ‘on show’ to get a big contract elsewhere because performances like this (especially if we play him centrally) can keep us up. As long as his hamstrings hold out. |  | | |

The main problem other than Begovic was that Hodge was not doing his job.
With each goal kick Dunne was pushing upfield as he did against Bristol but whereas Anderson slotted in at right back to give the option Hodge was wandering around the centre circle until someone yelled at him and he woke up to what he was supposed to be doing.
I think that contributed to him being hooked at halftime [Post edited 26 Feb 8:46]

Begovic is an old school type of keeper and hes doing his best but will never quite be a sweeper keeper! I think hes done an ok job for us next year but agreed I would like a new younger keeper who can play out from the back if we are to play like this (which we should - just with right players) |  | | |

The first 10 minutes were a QPR horror show, largely of our own making. In the teeth of a highly.predictable high press from Rotherham, we kept p1ssballing around between keeper and defenders. With predictable results.
Once we got a foothold in the game, we realised Rotherham were really poor. Willock roasted the LB a few times and we were creating chances. Johannsen made a number of good saves, especially Cook's header. Hayden could have been booked for his 1st bad tackle, so it was a bold move to replace him & Hodge (not big/strong enough) to deal with Rotherham. Smyth was a threat going forward, even if he went down easily on many occasions. Willock a clear MOTM, both for the assist and the goal. I'm not sure I'd seen a ball hit that hard since Bobby Charlton in his prime. Keeper wasn't great on that but I'd like to see a view from behind the goal.
We've given ourselves a fighting chance. Pity so many other results went the wrong way. Ultimately, it will be settled by what we do. 2/3 more home performances will, hopefully, give us enough points. |  |

Noticed Marti shouting at Begovic at one point to move the ball quicker. Also with Dunne so good in the air we should have used the option more often of him as a target man advanced on the right to win a few flick ons. Hodge or Hayden needed to cover for him though.
If that worked a few times, I'm sure Rotherham would have abandoned their high pressing game which caused us such problems. |  | | |

Exactly this.
And the keeper also needs to be thinking, chess-like, about the pass after his. If he gives it to someone, do they have an option too? This is on the outfield players as well of course. Pedro also spot on about how slow the three of them were. Get a goal kick, and they just stand there for ages waiting for Rotherham to mark up. Pass the bloody thing and get on with it! |  |
