Who has say over players ? 22:05 - Oct 9 with 3422 viewsconnell10

Now im not having a go here but its a genuine question. Who has the say over how long the players can play before they are subbed, is it the coach or the medical team? Any ideas. By the way great result tonight the lads did us proud! U RSSSSSS!

The irony for me is that we take Kemper off (he is way ahead of Cirkin imo) for medical reasons, but then are forced to leave his replacement - Lamptey - on, no doubt aggravating whatever injury he has picked up . Kemper stays on we win the game, simple as that.

In fairness ,he was on a yellow too.

Its also a big pitch at Spam.

True. I also forgot Kolli went off but he also hasn’t had many full 90 minutes this season if at all. So, I think Kemper and Kolli were always planned subs. And whilst frustrating, think perfectly understandable. It should mean both are available for Wednesday

Ok thanks , so Kemper was definitely the medical team call not the coach.

Juliens interview kind of inferred that he would've kept Kemper on

When I used to play 11-aside (no significant level) and I had any kind of underlying knock or muscle injury, I much prefered to start the game, and go off if it didn't work out than get subbed on and risk pulling up and not being able to play on or subbed off.
Obviously it can happen to any player, but someone like Lamptey coming on as last sub in a game of that intensity did seem like quite a gamble, but I guess he must have been training well all week or more and hindsight makes it seem a lot more obvious perhaps..

Kemper had a good game but lets not underplay Smyths role in marshalling Bowen. Bowen got that run on Lamptey because Vale was poleaxed and Lamptey had to come out from a much narrower position so he was totally exposed one on one with no cover. At the end of the day they got lucky with the rebound of Ronnie I think it was. I think Mbengue has slipped down the pecking order behind Adamson now. Charles got him out of jail but that was total headless

I think Mbengue had to do it. Bloke was about to have a free header at goal.

I'd have thought so, yes. First game back for 2 months - plus prob need him fresh on Wednesday.

I am all for pre match planning and managing players fitness especially when they are coming back from injuries.

But because you plan something before the game starts it doesn't mean that you have to go through with it. Read the game, ask the player how he feels.

It seems ridiculous to me to be thinking about the next game seventy minutes in to the current game especially when you are in a winning position and the player, Kemper in this case, is playing exceptionally well.

Ask a player if he wants to stay on? Unless he's in pain or he's a lazy mercenary he is inevitably going to say yes. Then he pushes it too hard and could be out for weeks.
Btw Kemper had already had one injury scare in the first half.

More rubbish.......he should not have done that, it was stupid to think that he would not have been seen pulling the forward's shirt. And you think that he had to do it!!!! He could well have been sent off as well.

The reason the medical team call the shots on this sort of thing can be summed up in three words - Beale and Willock.

Thank God we have a coach intelligent and mature enough to accept it.

I dont think you can compare JS keeping Kemper on the pitch to see out the game for another 20 minutes, to Beale flogging Willock to death in multiple games.
The influx of medics with laptops haven't improved footballers pain threshold. Now players are acutely aware of every single tendon in their legs. Yes players are quicker, stamina off the scale, and carrying not an ounce of fat on them. But they seemed to be made of glass these days.

It is a smaller than QPR's pitch apparently, not sure what cramp has got to do about it.......it is 7 yards longer and 4 yards wider apparerntly.

I think him and Dunne were ball watching for a split second. Then, Mbengue had a chance to step across his man but didn't for some reason. That left him with two choices: leave the free header, or foul and risk a peno and/or a red card. Neither were good choices.

Agree with that Brian, it was a last resort to pull his shirt.
