Centre half pairing 07:37 - Jan 24 with 2560 viewsAgedR

I think in Ned and Hall we have the best centre half pairing for quite some time. If you concede that it's better than Gorks and Connelly, then for many years.

I think it is better than any number of Dunne/Hill/Nelson/Ferdinand combinations we tried in the prem.

Also thought that Perch had a decent game. Although sadly Konch got torn a new arsehole, although I'm not sure how much of that was down to the pitiful support he was given on his wing.

Luongo and the BFG had good games too and the new lad Washington looked decent.

Blimey, I've come over all hopeful and optimistic all of a sudden.

Posted that Ned was overrated the other day. I do think he is, but have to say he is in form atm . And Hall is a cracker! Well done all involved with that one! ;)

Ned and Hall really look settled, Perch looks like the player we thought we were getting now. Konk works very hard but at 75 he's so so slow.Hoping we can get Robinson into that position soon or Yun again.

Never knowingly right.

Ned is a stronger player compared to Angella but his distrbution of the ball is not exactly his best attribute.
That wouldn't been a big issue if we had wingbacks who can carry the ball well and have great positional awareness and speed.
Wolves had one in Iorfa or what his name is.
Unfortunately ours haven't so Ned is forced more than he wishes for to distribute the ball from the back which leads to hoof it forward.

Another thing which drew my attention and annoyed me yesterday were the thrown ins, we lost possesion about 8 out 10 from thrown ins.
And please can somebody explain me we hoof the ball towards Hoillet our smallest player on the pitch?
If i can see those things surely the technical staff can and work on it in training.

Lets say its all about work in progress.

My favourite CB pairing over the last 20-odd years is Big Dan / Clarke Carlisle. I get a similar feeling about Hall and Onouha.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

They are looking more of a solid unit ,each one put in a shift and covered when needed. I've been quite harsh on Onuoha recently. I don't think he's as composed on the ball as Hall or Angella but he played well against Wolves.
With all the talk of getting the big wages off the books i'm surprised he's got away with a lot of criticism.
Perch played well against James Henry but Konch was up against the best player on the pitch Van lar Parra. He looked a great player. I wouldn't hold it against Konch as imo he's had a decent season at LB. Obviously Yun would look better there but he cant get in the team for whatever reason.

I still think I preferred Dunne/Hill and Nelson Hill as there was always a sense of calm and decent if unspectacular distribution.

Hall's amazingly assured for someone relatively young and almost makes Onouha look like his young understudy at times.

But maybe you're right - the CB's (Ned especially) are hampered but the lack of pace in Konch and Perch. We do need to sort LB and RB out, to state the bleeding obvious.

Thought the pair of them played really well yesterday and put in a real proper Championship required performance to keep Wolves out.

What impressed me with Hall was just how many headers he won, including plenty of those awkward ones that are easy to lose when you've got an opponent right next to you or right underneath you. He timed a lot of these headers well.

They looked calm and assured yesterday and they needed to be in the second half, because we were under the cosh at periods. You just get the sense there is also a renewed confidence with the defence now that Alex Smithies is behind them. He was able to rid of a lot of pressure with some excellent clearances, and that helps too.

Always liked Onuoha but he has disappointed me this season. He strikes me as one of those many players who's a bit too good for this level but not quite good enough for the one above, but he hasn't been that good this season. One thing is for sure is he's not a full back, so whenever Perch is unavailable we need to find a different solution to moving Ned there and leave him and Hall together. Both did well yesterday, Hall is a real find.

Perch still hasn't won me round. For a guy who's 29 with several years of Championship and Premier League football under his belt, I expect more. Along with Henry and Konchesky I'm just happy when he doesn't give the ball away.

I've explained before on a different thread and I'll stick to my guns, I really don't rate Ned that much. I'd take Connelly or Gorks over him every day. But you always get 100% effort from him, it's just too limited for my liking. Positionally poor and dreadful with the ball at his feet and any amount of time to connect brain with boot.

Dunno about Ned, but Hall just never seems to make a mistake does he? I never fret if he's the defender the ball's heading towards. Can't say I've said that about anyone in hoops in a very long time.

Lets face it, none of us expected Hall to be our best player this season. But he is and thats almost a fact (Ok, its my opinion but try and argue against it!). Let them play out the season, and recall Furlong at the first hint of Perch getting injured again. fck it, even buy that Motta bloke if we have to but Chief will never be a RB as long as he has a hole in his arse. Just keep them together and let them build that understanding.

Like I said before, Ned has consistently been one half of the best possible pairing at CB since he's been here. He gets pelters when he plays RB and thats fine( because he is poor at RB) but I honestly think pple then get the blinkers on regarding him as CB. He is one half of the best possible pairing at CB. Hope they leave him and Hall to continue their goods work and inturn sort out RB and LB

Didn't realise Perch was 29. Really he should have more to offer than he currently does.

On Saturday he left us exposed a few times in the second half, a few poor clearances and also didn't read the game very well.

Twice Henry covered for him at right back when we were under the cosh, and both times Perch didn't realise he was needed to cover Henry as a result. But he dropped back leaving us exposed in the middle. I am definitely unconvinced by him so far.

I said at the time when we signed Perch it was a poor signing
he isn't a right back nor is he a centre back, we signed him because he can cover in a few positions , the club really needs to find a right back , one that is young and has potential , lets face it our season is over we have nothing to play for so we may as well get a right back in who has another 20 games to get ready for next year

as for Ned, I didn't rate him under Hughes but thought him and Dunne was a good partnership in our promotion year , I thought HR treated him badly when he dropped him for that stupid 3-5-2 , I like him with Hall as it allows Hall to bring the ball out more which is one of his strength's, the more I see of Hall the more he reminds me of Terry Fenwick, the only thing with him is I find him to ball watch or switch off on occasions this is where you need a player like Ned, that tackle last week at Rotherham when the bloke had a tap in was brilliant ,
the only bright spots of the year has been this partnership, we need to let it continue to next season

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

If we are looking at promotion in the next two seasons (after this one) then we'll need a better partner for Hall. Chief might get us up, but we need a partnership which can survive in the PL. Chief is an OK squad player, but it would be good to have a better partner for Hall. As for the full backs, we need to start again.

Realy enjoying Hall develop. Can see him becoming hot property in about 12 months if the form and development continues. Becoming a really important player for us — natural stopper and better on the ball than you first think, good balance when dribbling. Ned has had a real up and down season, struggled as captain a little, but all in all has been a good servant to QPR. Players like him, who aren't going anywhere but command respect from others, are really important for us in terms of spirit-building, so he plays a more significant role than just being on the pitch.

Think the pair of them can become — and are becoming — one of the Championship's best centre back pairings. We need Jack Robinson to come in as soon as he's fit and do a job, big ask though. Right back is a problem: not sure Perch is the answer and we're not about to give any youngsters a chance.
