Caution watch 09:10 - Jan 30 with 2990 viewsozranger

A few players are getting high up in the list of cautions. At ten overall you take two games off.

Rob Dickie is on 9 now. So, how important was getting in Sanderson now?

Others:
Johansen 7
Dozzell & Field 6

Am I correct that we have not had a single straight red card yet this season? Just two send offs due to double-cautions (Dozell and Odubajo).

I think Moses was sent off.

Mmmm Sanderson in but Jordi out.

I find it quite impressive that Johansen has only had one career red card.

Dickie should sit out Peterboro , try to collect one against Boro and serve a suspension away to Barnsley..... IMO

But do FA cup cautions count towards the ten? The league cup yellow he received didn't count towards the four he had already had earlier in the season.

Also how does it work with suspensions? It doesn't affect us at present, but if a player has a ban, can he use the cup tie to serve it?

It is not one but two games he would be missing for. That would mean Barnsley and the tall Millwall.

I think that yellow cards are competition specific whilst red cards count across all competition.

Would a straight Red then count as 1 game (clearing the yellows) or two games? It must count as two games still at this stage.

Mark Dennis must have statistically provided all of the evidence required for this way back in the 80's.

zzzzzzzzzz

I think you're correct here Benny.

The chances of Dickie having to serve a suspension must be on the high side & I hope that he doesn't try to change his normal game to avoid it. If a caution is needed to help win a game then he must do it.

But what if that caution/suspension leads to him missing a game that we then lose (let's say, through a rookie error by the deputising Kakay)? it's called the law of unintended consequences.

Poll: What will be our upcoming/final points tally? (8 games to go)

Then it would be swopping a win in the game he received the caution for the game which he was suspended for. Take the win when you can & worry about the future when it arrives.

I never concern myself with the consequences of justified cautions & It would be Sanderson who deputised for him.

OK - let's say we lost both games for the sake of argument! But even if were just the second, your argument loses traction. Though I think your concept of 'justified cautions' is dubious anyway.

The whole point of the law of unintended consequences is that ruminating on it makes those consequences more palpable in advnace. Kind of like learning about history so as not to repeat its mistakes, but in the other temporal direction.

By justified caution, I meant that he has been cautioned by stopping an opponent breaking through on goal rather than a caution for kicking the ball away.

I'm not advocatting that he gets a caution, just that he shoudn't alter how he plays because a caution will bring a suspension.

Is it two games if he didn't trigger a suspension for five. I thought it was two if it was a second suspension but I'm not sure.

Dickie has nine yellows, but one in the league cup, which doesn't count, so eight.
I got stung on this earlier in the season, thought he'd picked up a crucial ban-triggering fifth booking in a game when actually it was four.

I think it's 10 Yellows up to 32 games for the 2 game ban and it's 15 yellows up to 38 games for a 3 game ban.

Dickie can afford 1 yellow in next 4 games.

According to the FA's "Essential Information for Players" for EFL Leagues

Number of cautions accumulated : Cut off-point (inclusive) : automatic suspension
5 : 19 EFL league Matches : 1 match
10 : 37 EFL matches : 2 matches
15 : Last day of relevant league playing season : 3 matches
20 : Last day of relevant league playing season : up to a judiciary

For interest, as we are still in the FA Cup, every 2 cautions results in a one match suspension.

There is a separate table for Non-First Team Matches (NFTM) - i.e., Reserves, U23s, etc. I am unsure if any accumulated by one of our first team players in a NFTM would be added to any accumulated in a First Team match.

I think the following document is well worth reading as it outlines just so much. You can download the PDF from here.

Still, he'll do well to avoid another 2 yellow cards between now and March.
