We are looking at Alex Finney 14:33 - Oct 25 with 3244 viewsbosh67

Young centre back currently without a club and previously at Bolton and Leyton Orient. Only 20, 6 foot 4, so a big unit. Hope we give him a chance.

Never knowingly right.

Nobody's signed him yet.

Is that the right answer?

Perhaps I'm being stupid but if he wasn't deemed good enough to play for Leyton Orient and only made 2 sub appearences for Bolton why are we interested in him?

If West Ham had said "if he's not good enough for QPR's youth team why would we want him?" Rio Ferdinand would have been doing something else for a living.

These trialists come and go all the time, the only concern here is we're breach our quota of Finneys.

Was offered a pro deal at Leyton Orient but Bolton spent the cash to sign him because they were 2 leagues above Orient at that point. Left Bolton because they are under an embargo and couldn't fit him in the squad

Thanks for that, makes sense. Just seen that he's only 20 years old.

In Les/Chris/Jimmy we trust and all that.

Nicked by Bolton from Orient, released by Bolton who are brassic, to make room in their squad from someone from Wiggun.

When he left Bolton, stories Leicester wanted him for their DEVELOPMENT squad

At 6' 4", and the quickest defender at Bolton, according to Phil Parkinson, at least worth a trial.

Always worth giving someone a trial, what do you lose?

Didn't we give Paulo Wanchope a trial once and not sign him prior to him going on to have great success at Derby?

The famous seven goals in two reserve games - thousands reckon they were there - followed by Houston releasing him because he could find "a dozen players just like that in non-league". He didn't, needless to say. He found Mike Sheron for £2.35m.

That's fecking racist, I'm telling ye.

Hall looked average at best when loaned out by Spurs and turned out fine. Worst way we'll sign him, he'll look good when given a chance before being sold to Barnsley or Wycombe for £250k in a couple of years.

Mendonca killed me, we obviously saw him most weeks because we lived up there, Charlton got him for less than £1m.

Wanchope did this

around the time of that Wimbledon FA Cup tie when we had 10,000 fans there. I remember everybody talking about him sticking three or four through Chelsea reserves the week before because a couple of my dad's mates used to go to the reserves - at Northwood then? Or Hayes? Anyway we lost to Wimbledon with Mark fcking Hateley up front instead.

I'll do a piece on all this when we play Derby so any recollections welcome.

If he is good enough and we sign him give him a chance. With the internet people love to criticise. When Grant Hall came many slagged him off yet he is a decent player.
It is the same as loving to criticise Gladwin when he has not played many matches for the r's.

Mendonca was a steal and resulted in Grimsby never being able to replace him as they slipped down the Leagues. Just like us and Sir Les.

This is the way to do it. Buy the best players from the teams that get relegated. This way you improve your squad on the cheap and take less of risk that they will turn out rubbish as at least these players played well in a team that struggled in your division.

Now that we have stopped playing Henry and others can settle into a workable Midfield formation (which takes time) I think we still need a proper RB. I still say it was a mistake to loan out Furlong. We should be playing him like we do the young Fin.

I know that the Fin is only playing as our LB's are both injured, but that makes it even more of a mistake to loan out Furlong as we only have Perch at RB and I still prefer Furlong over him.

Maybe we are looking at this guy as Caulker is off in Jan. I am okay with that, especially if we also but the Wycombe feller as well. Hedging our bets for less money is good Business.

Sounds like a no-brainer to me. Give him a trial and if he's any good we've picked up a bargain. Col Donaldson, anyone?

Hence we'll give a contract to any facker now.

Memory might be playing tricks, but didn't we have Johnny Spencer up front against Wimbledon too? Stays with me because he was so injured from the off-set that he basically couldn't run/kick the ball.

If not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled. PG Wodehouse
