Ralph Hasenhuttl On Aston Villa And Norwich Radar But Why Would He Go To Either !
at 10:12:56

Of course there is a long way to go, the odd bad result means nothing along the way, it is about making progress and we are doing that, this time last year we were in the top four and all hailing Ralph, the problems last season werent about poor signings or poor tactics, they were purely about the lack of depth in the squad to cope with an unprecedented injury crisis as well as some poor VAR calls etc.

You sack managers when they are part of the problem, good CEO's look at crisis's when they happen and then look to see where the issue is and how its fixed.

We did that and saw what the problem was an dealt with it in the summer, now we are reaping the benefits.

Some still say we scraped 1-0 results against poor teams, what they failed to notice was the game management in those games, last season we would have poured forward and got caught on the break, this season we have stuck to a game plan, kept clean sheets and took chances when we could, Ralph has learned something about the Premier League in the last year,

Someone said if there was an active owner he would have been sacked, yes thats probably the case, but look at the active owners in the Premier league, the likes of Moshiri at Everton for instance, at Chelsea or at Spurs, they lurch from one managerial appointment to another isn't a good thing.

Active owners are a problem, they make knee jerk decisions based purely on a poor result or two, the good owners are the ones who keep their noses out of something they don't know and let professionals run things for them

Ralph Hasenhuttl On Aston Villa And Norwich Radar But Why Would He Go To Either !
at 21:41:44

Colburn, Lawrie Mcmenemy's last 29 games in his first season in charge ended with the 3-0 at Everton so his record was 5 out of 29 or up to that last game 4 out of 28. If you include the opening 6 games of the following season he had a record of 5 wins in 35 games.

In 1988/89 Chris Nicholl went 17 games without a win and then won 3 in the last 9 to make it 4 wins in 26.

The following season he led us to 7th after topping the league early in the season, comparisons with Hasenhuttl can be drawn here

So both had similar runs to Hasenhuttl, before I make statements I do check my stats, you seem to have some good opinions again I reiterate my offer to give you a platform to give an alternative view to my own on this website

Ralph Hasenhuttl On Aston Villa And Norwich Radar But Why Would He Go To Either !
at 14:45:37

Colburn: I havent attacked fans who dont agree with me, I have attacked a small minority who scream for change after a few defeats and then change their minds after a few wins, show you a club who would have stuck with a dropping manager ? there are plenty, Saints themselves with Lawrie McMenemy back in 1973, with Chris Nicholl , perhaps in the modern game there aren't many, but then again Saints under Hasenhuttl are hardly dropping are they, they were in the bottom 3 when he arrived and finished 16th in his first season, in his second season we finished 11th which was punching above our weight, last season we topped the table for the first time in 32 years and had a lot of injuries but still finished 15th and are 13th as we speak, where would you expect us to be given our resources ?

With regard to Jack Stephens I give an honest opinion of where I see his role in, on one hand you complain about Hasenhuttl taking us downwards, but can't see the correlation between the standards we had back in 2016 under Koeman in the centre of the defence and whom we have had since,

"Tiny bit of power I have" what's that meant to mean, I have no power I just write about my opinions, you want to write about yours i am quite happy to print them on here under your name or any name you care to use, if you want to write about how bad Ralph is or how great Jack Stephens is or whatever you want then here is your chance !

Colburn there is no need to resort to personal attacks, put your point forward and ill listen to it, Jack Stephens indeed does rock and you are right i don't that of course settles the argument

Can Jack Stephens Be The Come Back Kid Again for Southampton
at 13:21:44

I actually wrote this article as a tribute to Jack Stephens, was there anything in it that i wrote that wasn't factual ? I paid tribute to the way he has bounced back when out of the team whether through injury or out of favour. I have been honest about the last 5 years, yes he has had some good spells but in this his 6th season since his Premier League debut the number of games speaks for itself.

The article was not subtle I was upfront about what I think his role is at the club and i emphasised that on any number of occasions, if he was better than I am saying then he would have played approaching 200 League games for the club by now since his debut, the stats speak for themselves, if he had played 150 games say and we had been one of the best defences in the League then I wouldnt have a leg to stand on

I agree Bednarek was rolled too easily against Wolves, against Burnley I think he held off and didn't dive in and didn't expect Cornet to fly one in from 25 yards or so.

But overall he has been our best defender in the last 3 years and usually makes few mistakes

I hope Jack Stephens is still here in a years time and i hope that people are still giving me stick about his abilities, because that will mean he has played exactly the role he has done for the past few years and that is provide a great back up to our first choice central defenders and be able to do so for 6-8 games at a time if needed.

The man gives 100% effort and 100% commitment can't ask more than him than that, you never see rants about him from me as some do against Redmond and others at certain times with phrases like "Get out of our club " I appreciate what he can do but also what he cant

Salisu is far from sure of going to AFCON as he made himself unavailable for Ghana as he felt he wasnt ready for international duty and wanted to concentrate on club football first, since his success this season there are calls for the Ghana manager to get him to change his mind

Southampton At Watford The Verdict

Everyone has reasons why we are not in the top 10 , but no one has any solutions other than sack the manager and blame Nathan Redmond for everything from the queues outside St Mary's to global warming.

Hasenhuttl is good to steer the ship whilst investment isn't being put in the club, but even if it was it would not drastically improve things.

"Let Ings Go" do you think Hasenhuttl pushed Ings out of the club , he would have wanted to keep him, but some people can't seem to accept that the players that leave actually do so because they want to because of more money, nothing to do with the clubs ambition just purely and simply he wanted more money, he will be 30 next year, if we had matched Villa and paid him £130k a week then Im sure that in two years time there would be people moaning about why we had a 32 year old on that money when its time they became commentators

Southampton V Burnley The Preview
at 12:26:37

Im not desperate at all to see either Djenepo or Elyounoussi out of the starting line up, I am just not sure either has done enough so far to justify selection in front of those mentioned.

Redmond may have performed better in the free role, but he has also performed as a wide man off the bench at Newcastle and has had more impact than either.

Elyounoussi & Djenepo destroy Burnley with man of the match performances and i will be more than happy for them to stay in the team

Mohammed Elyounoussi Targeted By Arsenal And Leicester
at 12:21:28

Saint Michael

Of course it is an article based on assumptions and personal opinions and just as much as I can't say who actually agrees with me or not nor can you, many of the Celtic fans comments i have read had mixed feelings about Elyounoussi, he started 21 games last season but also came off the bench in another 13 so 10 goals doesn't look so good the feeling was he was OK when Celtic were on top, not so good if they weren;t.

I'm not sure what Norway think of him.

From a Saints perspective I don't think he has been excellent this season, apart from the goal at Newcastle he has not scored or had an assist in either this or his first spell.

Saturday he was OK but he had plenty of room and time against a Leeds side who were the worst we have played this season.

As a wide player he won't get in the team with everyone fit, Stuart Armstrong will play on the right and Redmond on the left, Redmond was a tthe heart of everything on Saturday he had an end product and that is what Elyounoussi lacks.

I hope he proves me wrong, but at the moment he is another Boufal, occasional flashes of genius but mostly innaffective.

As he is on £60k a week i would not be happy to see him sign a new deal at the moment, make or break season for him, that type of salary may be the norm these days, but not at clubs like us unless it is for a player who is a nailed on starter and going to do something.

So far we have not had one game where anyone has gone to the pub after and raved about Elyounoussi's displays as a match winning performance and by now they really should have

Southampton Awaydaze
at 11:26:29

A few tips from a Saints fan:

If you come by train the walk is about 20 minutes from Southampton Central, St Deny's station is farther away and serves the Portsmouth line only about 1 train an hour stops there .
If you go to Southampton Central and walk up the hill to the City Centre the away fans pub is Yates, most other pubs are home fans only unless you wander off the main drag.

There is plenty of parking in multi story car parks in the London Road /Bedford place area. 15 -20 minute walk to ground nothing nearer

By coach the nearest pub is The Prince Of Wales on the main road from where the coaches park.

You are right the club will enforce a strict policy on away fans in home sections, but only if there is a commotion, if you go in the home section and stand up and cheer goals or shout abuse you will be turfed out, but if you don't show colours and just watch the game it's normally ok.

To mention dire threats of reduced allocation is a bit out of date given we haven't played you with away fans present in 10 years, but these days it isn't strictly enforced.

As mentioned there is little around the ground in terms of pubs and food outlets other than burger vans, so most home fans drink and park in the city centre

Southampton At Manchester City The Verdict
at 10:30:16

Felly I'm not obsessed with Jack Stephens I am obsessed with having a good central defence, since the departure of Van Dijk and Fonte we have not had a central defensive partnership that has been good enough, last season we were the worst defence in the Premier League, if we keep doing the same things then we will get the same results.

We have to continually try and search for better players to improve the side.

One of my criteria is this, would an individual player get in another premier league side starting line up ?

Look at that question truthfully and it will tell you a few things about any player in our side,

Jan Bednarek has been our most consistent central defender is a regular for Poland and would get in other sides, Salisu has been good this season and at the end of last and is already being linked with other clubs.

That tells me a lot of things.

I like Jack I just see his limitations and when I give an opinion I always give a reason, I see people on here slag off other players without reason yet seem to be more obsessed than me lol

Number 58, Where did I have a pop at Jack Stephens, all I did was state that I think Jan Bednarek & Mohammed Salisu are better players, did you watch the full 90 minutes , if you did you will see that City created around 4 good chances in the first half where they had men unmarked, in the second half that never happened, we were a lot better defensively with Salisu & Bednarek together.

I like Kyle Walker Peters as a quality right back, but I think Livramento is better, that is not slagging off KWP, its merely stating my opinion.

I always try to back it up with what I see as the key points, not slagging off players but pointing out why I think they are not better than the man who would replace them.

Jack Stephens is a great club servant, he has a role to play in this squad, he is just not in my opinion a 38 game a season consistent player

A Satisfying Transfer Window For Southampton. Part 1 The Outgoings
at 12:02:44

Saintnige- you seem to be under the impression that in his injury raddled years Ings was not getting paid, he would have been on his full salary and bonus's, he might have missed out on any performance related bonus, but in the main he would have picked up his £80k a week at Liverpool.

The only time a players earnings are affected are if they have a career ending injury, so you can understand a younger player wanting to get as much in as he can, but in the case of Ings who is now 29 if he had signed a contract at Saints it would have been for about £5 million a year rather than the £6.25 million at Villa, so his decision was it about getting an extra £3.75 million over 3 years or becoming a Saints legend.
