This article, for many, may help explain the cheese lust....this year I have found the best Gouda I've ever tasted, and one sold here called Old Amsterdam, like a salty old cheddar but better. My christmas cheese board will also feature a fine Roqufort and some French brie and a proper stinky camembourt.

Missing the sussex classics like Black Bomber, apple and oak smoked cheddars but Spain has some excellent cheeses too. So over to you, your favourite cheese this Christmas?

Old Amsterdam is gorgeous. I say gorgeous because it's more like a Chritmas pudding than a cheese.

Strong and stable my arse.

I only eat unpasteurised cheese as the enzymes don't get destroyed in the process so it is healthier and tastes more peasanty.
And I prefer goat's cheese.
Sainsburys do a good Chaource in the Taste the Difference range that is proper value at £3-leave it out for a few hours so it softens though..
Roblechon, Comte, Gorgonzola, Cornish Yarg all do the business for me

my ideal evening is a QPR victory, followed by a bottle of Vacqueyras and a Polteresque lump of fromage followed by 3 falls and a knockout with my Italian bit on the side..

As another Spanish resident, I'm eating a lot of Idiazabal cheese at the moment which I promise is fantastic! Hoping I can get some proper Stilton in the next few days though!

Morrison's are doing a white Stilton with cranberries, golden raisins and Amaretto. Not the sort of cheese I'd normally go for but it's damn nice.

Wombat - could you let me have the name of the nuclear cheddar please. This is what we want. Many thanks.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

I like a bit of havarti now and then, but I bought some Castello Aged Havarti yesterday and it tastes more like cheddar than havarti. Disappointed.

I'm in Canada so it'll probably be something bright orange, sold in quarter ton slabs with about as much taste as Roasted Icicles. If not, it'll be one of the artisan made cheeses such as Mooseknuckle, Willydelphia or Fromunder, with dry, salty crackers.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

Do you guys get Prima Donna in the UK?
Sort of a mix of parmasan and gouda - amazing!
Go for the black version, red is nice as well though.
Merry Xmas :)

That sounds delightful! Can I assume by the username you're Danish based?

While you're in Canada, do they really have a drink called Moose Milk? Some sort of creamy egg nog type thing I've been told.

It really is - it's this one, you should look for (it's Dutch):

Yup, born and raised in Copenhagen, so bit of a long distance relationship with the R.s (since late 80's), but trying to swing by LR once a year if possible :)

Good stuff, I have a few Dutch shops where I live in Spain so I'll check it out! Failing that, my girlfriend is from Odense (and in the new year will hopefully be the latest Danish visitor to HQ) and I get over to Copenhagen quite a bit so I will look out for it!

In Amsterdam earlier this year, July weather was dreadful.
Bought myself two cheeses from the Old Amsterdam Cheese store. Wonderful. One was a whole Gouda fused with Garlic and Cumin which, I ate on my return to blighty.

The other was a whole Gouda fused with truffles, my favourite from the free tasting samples I tried instore. This has been chilling in my fridge since July wrapped in it's paper sheet packaging and I've been saving it for Christmas. Anyway, checked it out the other day, bloody mould has developed over it. I'm hoping it's just on the outsdie hard wax casing of the cheese and it hasn't penetrated into the actual cheese it'self. When I cut into this on Xmas night I'll be absolutely heart broken if it's ruined.
