What was Bazunu doing for their winning goal ? 19:45 - Nov 29 with 2464 viewssaintmark1976

Twice beaten from outside the big box, although their second goal was mainly down to Aribo for standing off and turning away from the shot.

Third goal, he didn’t go for the cross or alternately make himself “ big “ at the near post.

He’s at best an average keeper and at worst a liability.

Who knows the number of points that between them he and McCarthy have cost us.

I would say at best he’s a liability, it’s just that he does not always get punished for his mistakes at this level, especially against average opposition with QPR away recently being a good example where he made two stupid mistakes in the second half that were not capitalised on by the opposition.

The good news is the transfer window will be open in just over 4 weeks time.

The not so good news is it is SR who we must rely upon to do the right thing and do it quickly. Something they failed miserably to do in the summer when everyone other than our great owners and the people they employ to recruit new players could see that a better keeper was a top priority.

I would say our poor keepers and the fact we haven’t addressed it for two maybe three seasons now has cost us at least 25% of possible points
We are never going to be a team that really challenges for anything until we sort that position out
Equally whenever stephens plays it increases our failings at the back
Coventry will have afield day

cancels out the good things he does with sloppy errors,we wont achieve anything with him in goal, how many more times before the club sort this out

Surely we addressed it last year by signing Rambo ?

We saw the best and worst of Baz today.
A great save, tipping it round the post in the first half.
Slow to get down to the equaliser
Fvck only knows what he was doing for their winner
Never seemed to control his 6 yard box, let alone the 18

It’s clear that whoever gets the managers job they’re on a hiding to nothing if we don’t get a decent quality keeper and striker

I know most on this forum will disagree with me but I think Macca is a much better keeper than Baz.
Not saying that Macca is great, but he's much calmer than Baz & I am sure the defence feel more comfortable with him behind them.
Put yourself in our defenders position & which one would you prefer to have behind you.
We can no longer protect Baz by saying he's still young & will get better but he's now very experienced & has not improved, he's just not commanding enough in the box.
He & Slack Jack together are the two main reasons that we revert back to tippy tippy playing across the back.
When we got promoted two seasons ago it was mainly because Baz was out injured & Macca played last few games including the play offs.
I'm convinced we would not have won the play offs with Baz in goal ( but we'll never know).

This really seems to be which keeper is the least worst.

I want it to be Baz, because he is young and can get better, the 4 previous winning games and our 25 game unbeaten promotion season suggested it was.

But Macca back in goal surely got us over the line that promotion season when Gav got injured and most were happy to see him reinstated this season.

Because they are okay and not terrible we seem to be stuck with them. Maybe give them a half each, Bazunu first half because his distribution is decent and McCarthy second half as he is a more commanding presence!

I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it.

Or just play both of them together.

I think Bazuna only looked good during the long unbeaten run under Martin.

And then again when we win 4 on the bounce he looks OK.

The conclusion is that he looks good when he hasn't got too much to do.

Generally, he just lets in far too many goals where we're left asking 'couldn't he have done better with that.

The odd acrobatic saves he makes flatter to descieve.

It is no coincidence that we look far weaker with Baz and Slack forming half the spine of the team
When will one of our endless managers see this too?
It’s mind boggling

I’d put them both in the stocks beside Ted Bates’ statue and have them pelted with ripe tomatoes.
We had some dodgy keepers back then, Tony Godfrey, Ron Reynolds, Dave McLaren.
Happy days are here again 😀

Why don't have a spin in goal Nobby?

Messi or Ronaldo would have no chance of getting it past your chins

We were all at sea for that 3rd goal, decent cross to someone unmarked at the back post, if anyone could be blamed it is THB who should have cleared it off the line and not sliced it into his own net

To be honest I am not a great fan of THB,I know he has scored a couple of goals at late but his attitude to me leaves a lot to be desired.
When he makes mistakes,as all defenders do from time to time,he looks around as if to say it wasn't my fault
I wonder what he is like in the dressing room?

Baz makes simple saves look spectacular but can't deal with anything that's a bit more difficult.
He is so easily beaten from distance & is not commanding enough or brave enough to deal with corners & ball into the box.
Goalkeeping is a real problem for us because neither Macca or Baz are good enough but of the two Macca is the better.

McCarthy is not better than any professional goalkeeper in the entire country, including Bazunu. With McCarthy in goal we have won just ONE regular season game at St Mary's in FOUR YEARS! That's how bad he is.

We win most of our Championship games with Bazunu in goal and we only managed to avoid defeat against Pompey this season because of his man of the match performance. He's not as good as Ramsdale or any of the top goalkeepers, but he's nowhere near as bad as McCarthy, who'd have cost us a defeat to Pompey if he'd been in goal.

We need to buy a better goalkeeper and centre forward in the transfer window. That's something we can all agree on. What Eckert has achieved without them is impressive.

Bizarre that you would blame the last man.

What about the build up ?
Stupidly gave it away
Allowed them to break
Wing back out of position and allowed a deep cross
CB (Stephens) out of position allowing a free header at the far post
From such a tight angle, how did it get past Stephens
From such a tight angle, how did it get past Bazunu as well ?

....yet some how, you blame THB for trying to clear it off the line.

The last minute of injury time and our rear guard all decide to switch off !!

As I've noted before, his footwork is terrible.

He's not on the balls of his feet for the first and dives from a flat-footed position, and no hop to the right to generate power and width on the dive.

On the third, he doesn't have his feet set when the ball arrives at the far post, so can only flail at the weak shot as it goes by.

He will never be a decent keeper.

He plays goal like an outfield player pressed into action due to an emergency.
