The Barry Bannan Master Class Match Thread 08:50 - Jan 3 with 29460 viewsnumptydumpty

I will front up for this one, as feel this is a must win game. Finally, I hope this is one game too far for Mr Bannan against ourselves.

But bloomin 'eck, a midday kick off.

And for the Sheffield fans to get there. One of these days, we will all have to get to the ground immediately after our full english breakfast. Its hard to get into a game so early in the day and think actually it generally shows similar for all players also.

Despite that, I do believe we will win comfortably, three nil, perhaps. But if its a loss, the natives will certainly be getting restless and a happy new year, it won't be.

So for me, a three nil win - Burrell with two and Cook with the other !!!

Don't want to consider any other possible outcomes !!

C'mon you Rrr's....

Your superior expertise and insight has surfaced again. Does this man know no bounds.

Ooer, an opinion, which I'm thrilled he shoved down my throat. He actually was shocking prior to his two excellent goals, but he really showed he can do it.

Anyone else making my original barb of frustration, and I'm sure you're not saying a word.

Nice response to Thursday. Yes Weds are the worst team we will play this season...but you still need to beat them. Sounds like we hopefully played within ourselves today, and there is better to come. Come on U R's 🙂

Bit scrappy here and there before Kolli woke up. 3 points in the bag. Very good.
Madsen or Kolli MoM.

If you weren’t such a dick sometimes, you wouldn’t get it thrown back at you so often.

Maybe see that as a learning opportunity.

Happy 2026 - in the meantime.

I'm truly humbled by your friendly empathy! Perhaps your 'learning opportunity' could be to stop being a ptronishing dick yourself.

More importantly, well done you Rs.

Well thank f*ck for that. A professional performance. I for one am very relieved. Anyone know how Burrell is? Hopefully not too much of a hamstring thing???

Comfortable in the end and great to see Kolli take his chances: he’s got a real opportunity of a good run in the team now.
Thank goodness Stéphan made the right decision not to clog up the midfield just to contain Bannan: Wednesday (and Bannan) were abject today and think we would’ve struggled to score many.

Re Morgan, he and Field seem to have become utility players, both having now played as CM, FB, and up front. Bit of a double edged sword, in that he's getting game time but 'm not sure that's great for his development and establishing himself as a first team player?

Wednesday such a poor and demoralized side with all that's going on with them. We could have put some more goals away if we could have got anywhere near the performance against Leicester.
Obviously take 3-0 though. Feel a little sorry for the fans of Wednesday.

Just hope the injuries are not long term. Think Varane was just an impact injury with his knee going hard into the ground when he made the tackle. The worrying one is Burrell. I hope I'm wrong but that looked like a few weeks out the way he was walking.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Delighted we won, but that wasn't a great performance by us and the opposition was awful. They really didn't create much, but we looked like we were hanging on for a lot of that game. We let them get into the game by trying to grind out a one nil win and our third goal came from a major error by Wednesday.

Credit where credit is due, we did keep a clean sheet and we created two great opportunities through our own efforts, opportunities which we finished well, but there is still a lot to work on.

We can surely be more creative, close down and press better than that. Well, I certainly hope we can. Hopefully, the confidence we derive from this much needed win will inspire the team and give us more energy and drive.

It shouldn’t be but really is a big win for the club. We end the holiday games with three precious points and gives a boost of confidence to the players and head coach after some dismal performances and results.

Pleased for Kolli, always looking to get his shots away early. Hope he retains his place whilst Burrell recovers.

Urrssss!

I did have a bet on the draw and Wednesday to win, but thankfully we did win. Thought we looked a bit dodgy for a fair bit of the second half, but we got there in the end. Great strike by kolli, he was limping at the end. Hope he can play next week!

The biggest concern is obviously Burrell, could see him out of the World Cup play'offs and QPR for a while, didnt look good at all. For a player who relys on his pace and running, a hamstring is a nightmare injury. Did for Willock

For a young player, I think to have many minutes on the pitch is crucial for his development, as nothing beats being in the game to learn, and if it is not his natural position, one can assume that the coach thinks he could play there because of his talent and ability

To play in his favourite position, a young player needs to be the “best player” in the club for that position, I think we could say that of Morgan, or any of our young players including Kolli, that at this point in time they are not the best player for their position. If so, it would be quite unusual why the coach does not play his best players.

I think it is more about getting him minutes on the pitch as JS has said he is a CM longer term.

I'd sooner he played 20 minutes at RB rather than zero as JS will only put him in CM. I think it's good management and probably a template for how our DS are brought through.

It must be difficult for the Wednesday players, the last time I looked they had been paid for October.
It must be a nightmare for all the players and staff at Sheffield Wednesday, once you haven't been paid It's always In the back of your mind If your gonna get paid this Month.
It's all very well saying they were poor, but I'm not surprised.

Lovely strike that, and nice link up with Kone.

Strange angry look on Kolli's face after he scored, what's that all about ?

He knew he was having a bit of stinker, it was a look of relief and frustration that something had finally come off for him. Looks a proper footballer to me. Needs a run in the team now, which he will get with Burrell out.

Varane out for a while now. Good.

To make it competitive when they have the squad they do is admirable. Jamal Lowe still trotting about at this level in 2025 shouldn’t be happening. Needs a move to a UAE third division team to maximise the end of his career.

You can see why other teams want Amass off of United.
