If they had any sense of moral responsibility the head of the fa would resign after this debacle.

Guess that won’t happen though.

They only resign to go to bigger jobs in the City. The F A job is just an easy stepping stone.

Controversial idea with little popular support, would in effect mean a loss on the overall deal and loss of an asset and source of income. Little evidence that any real research was done to find out if the idea had support of the FA committee, who needed to approve it.

Basically even if was a good idea they failed to ensure that they had got sufficient support to get approval. That doesn't look like they considered any of that being necessary and were just blinded by the idea of what appears to be a lot of money. Any senior management that failed to engage as these guys have done for such a significant issue would be quickly looking for new opportunities or spending time with their families elsewhere. Being the FA, Whelan et al will probably now get pay rises.

Is £650 million NOT a lot of money then?

Not as it cost £100m more than that to build and complete it eleven years ago and the sky rocketing cost of land in London, no it isn't a lot relatively speaking.

Its a little more complicated than that though.

Of course if they sold the site AND vacated it would be worth a lot more, but the stadium is staying and the FA would still have been able to use it.

I don't think we know enough to say if a good deal or not tbh.

Don't forget that the FA haven't finished paying for it yet and at the start of the year still had about £140m debt on it so any sum received will have to pay off that first.

Word has it the FA royally fcked up by not buying any of the land around the stadium when it was dirt cheap. Others have capitalised on the failure, which is why there's a whole new Wembley city with apartments blocks and a shopping centre. Even York House, a humdrum 50/60s block overlooking the stadium is being converted to flats.

Don't talk to me about people who didn't buy land around stadiums when it was dirt cheap.

The only good thing I could see about the potential sale was that there wouldn't be an excuse for not playing FA cup semi finals at neutral grounds anymore. I'm not against the NFL being played in this country, there's clearly a demand for it and it's hugely lucrative but I don't see why they need to own Wembley.
