Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has cut season ticket prices for the next campaign as a thank you to supporters.
He's also marking the 60th anniversary of the club's famous 1953 FA Cup win over Bolton, when football legend Stanley Matthews spurred Blackpool on to success.
Oyston has set the prices for 2013/2014 at £195.30 to mark the year 1953.
KARL Oyston has announced a massive cut in season ticket prices as a thank you to supporters.
It’s been a difficult season for everyone at Bloomfield Road, with three managers and a slide down the Championship table.
But to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the club’s FA Cup win, Oyston has set prices for next season at £195.30 (the amount based on the year 1953), a saving of almost 50 per cent.
And the Pool chairman said his idea is to reward the fans
Oyston said: “It’s pretty much a thank you for the loyalty. We are all keen to move forward with a good support.
“We met with Glenn Bowley, the chairman of our supporters association, on Friday and he had some good ideas about season tickets for next season.
“We spoke about how we could reward our fans for what has been a disappointing season.
“We’ve had pretty well-documented problems with the playing surface and two unwanted managerial departures.
“So we just felt it was important, particularly in the economic climate, that we gave the supporters a boost and a thank you for their loyalty.
“It’s an offer which we hope will guarantee their support moving forward.”
Pool supporters have enjoyed some superb seasons, with promotion to the Premier League the highlight of Oyston’s 14 years in charge.
But since the departure of Ian Holloway in November, things have taken a turn for the worse and Pool now find themselves in a relegation battle.
Some supporters said they were not going to renew their season tickets but Oyston hopes to make them an offer they can’t refuse.
He said: “We value the support. This has been the first blip for a long time.
“We’ve worked very hard to get the support base to what it is from a very low starting point.
“I think it would be a shame if we lost that after all the hard work. We needed to take proactive action to give them a very good offer and encourage them to renew and attract new supporters.
“The company has done well, so we just thought it was the right move. It’s something we are lucky enough to be able to afford to do.
“With the tough financial climate, it’s very difficult for people to work out their family budget and be able to commit to following their team.
“We value the supporters and the atmosphere they create.”
Ticket prices across football have been criticised lately, with attendances dropping in all four professional divisions.
And Oyston says Pool have taken this into account when planning the price drop. He is delighted to offer a deal that works out at £8.49 a game.
He added; “Across the leagues, there has been a drop-off in attendances and we all understand it’s a big commitment to follow a team.
“Particularly this year, when things haven’t gone our way on several fronts, we recognise the sacrifice people make to follow us.
“It’s important we try to maintain a good supporter base.
“We want to get it right this summer to give the fans something to cheer about next season.
“With a good playing surface, new recruits and Paul having time to bed in, I think we should have a better season.”
The discount period will run from today until 3pm on Thursday, May 2, exactly 60 years to the minute since the 1953 FA Cup final kicked off.
At the end of the period, season ticket prices will revert to those offered last season.

Entire home crowd kitted out in tangerine singing in unison as their drummer banged away with some skill whilst we shivered on some temporary scaffolding with a pool of suspicious liquid forming at our feet coming from the direction of the portakabin toilets.

You do wonder what the financial constraints are at Blackpool, seeing as both Ian Holloway and Michael Appleton have already left this season.
They pretty much pocketed the whole Premier League TV package and spent very little on the team. I should imagine they're in a healthy financial position.

23 Championship games for the cost of less then 5 QPR games very good value. Problem it would probably cost be 200 quid return to get there and back on the train from London every time.

Reading David Conn's article puts a slightly different spin on it. The Oyston/Blackpool way makes more sense than a £26m loss and £89m of debts.
