Sunderland lose

I still have a mild pleasure from Beale failing. But to be honest, time to move on and get over him. He’s just another ex manager now.

Haha. I’ll bite. Long time lurker. Occasional poster. In fact I’ve lurked so long that my username should have changed to UxbridgeRanger five years ago.

Really enjoy Clive’s articles and loads others on here.

Current opinion on the team is obviously worried. More the fact that set pieces seem to be such a problem. We’d actually be competitive if it wasn’t for that. It at the point that I think we would be better off conceding penalties rather than corners :)

But also worried by next year whichever league we are in after the loss of so many players but Willock and most probably chair especially. Oh well. On the bright side, I don’t think we need to worry about moving to a new stadium for the need of more capacity anytime soon

It’s a World Cup. We will go. The damage was already done, back handlers probably already laundered through or in safe bank accounts.

Very valid moral questions being asked but in the real world it’s money that talks.

Putting football and sport generally aside I wonder how much trade we do with such nations, particularly arms etc. if there was significant trade there more of our moral questions surely should be channelled there than a football tournament… and I do understand the concept of sports washing when I say that. That’s prob last post I’ll do on here. I do normally bypass the political threads on here except when something takes my mood

Dykes
at 23:38 21 Sep 2022

Can only be good to hopefully boost his confidence and get him going for us. Even better was that he was a late sub… so hopefully there is no issue of him playing too many minutes for scotts and needing resting when he comes back. Also surely these international goals will add pounds to any sale price.

I’m sure someone will find some kind of negative point. We don’t get to have any positivity. Please someone bemoan that he will never score for us at the loft end

On style of play suiting him. Both goals headers from corners. His last goal for us was a deft header from a free kick. So we have a set piece threat with him. Our usual supply route through middle of willock and chair are cutting in on their right foot and won’t feed him headers. Our wing backs are interesting. Laird seems to favour the cut back along the ground to very good effect, but it means he’s not providing the cross that dykes would want. Not sure about paals crossing. So maybe we aren’t playing to his strengths. But what to do about that? Change system to get uncs in the team with specific instructions to fire crosses for dykes. Lol.

Essentially we played better with him in the team. Even if his open play goals have dried up for some reason he is still a threat from set plays. Let’s hope other parts of the game start to click for him. When he has his patches of good form he does tend to get goals in gluts.

Mick Beale interesting comment.
at 23:30 21 Sep 2022

That was a good comment. You hear stories from players about when they were in youth teams and the first team manager would come to watch and sometimes take training sessions, so I don’t think it is that uncommon. But definitely the mark of some of the more committed managers. Pretty sure lots of stories of sr’alex and wenger doing that… at least watching if not coaching. Obviously Beale is an actual coach and not just a manager, so his comment about not having opportunity to do it before makes sense. I’ve no proof but my guess is that there was just a class of manager like Redknapp who prob wouldn’t spend the time watching the feeder teams himself… I might be being unfair on him there.

I did remember in another interview Beale saying the int break gives opportunity to look back and provide more analysis and individual coaching to some of the first team. Hopefully mick is finding time to do both.

McNamara full back we did not buy

Loving having laird in our team and no hindsight regrets.

However, the logic at the time was getting a fairly young and decently rated player on the cheap. As great as it is watching laird now, unless it helps us at least get into play offs, what we have done is pay money to develop someone else’s player and we are back to square one in that position next year.

#1 As a child in “middle school”. Boy from my brothers class (3 years older and coolest guy in school” comes up to me and says. “Have you seen David, he’s been spreading bullsh*t about me and sally”. I proceeded to run around the playground repeated that exact quote to nearly every kid in school on a one man witch hunt. Safe to say my brother had strong words with me. I was very slow in those days. Haunted me.

#2 early 20s. A years work placement as part of my degree. A portly colleague of mine comes round giving out treats for her birthday. Asks me to guess her age. I started out with “fffo” about to say forty, but then retracted and said “thirty five”…. It was her 28th birthday. Cut to the pub lunch… the girl who is usually life and soul of the party is depressed as f*ck. Repeating the story about how I was about to say 40. Birthday seemingly ruined. I’ve never guessed a womens age since. Just say 18 or 21 in jest.

#3. Early 30’s. I’ve just left a job mainly because of my one sided unrequited love for a colleague. Go on holiday to turkey on my own. Last night I end up in the bedroom of the most attractive women who booked the same package, beautiful, the body the lot. I held back playing dumb. She seduces me like something out of a steamy novel. Up to kissing and dry humping. She up for it. I suddenly pull back make an excuse and go to my room. Real reason was I was emotionally still hung up on my former colleague and felt in some way that I’d be cheating on her even though we never got together. Massively regretted since

Love the 2k noisy fans. Got commentary on willock right. Shows how many teams in champ are lacking clinical striker, not just us. Luckily we have a couple of clinical players from midfield T the moment. We just need 29 more games of them scoring from outside of the box and who knows what the season could hold 😜

Taarabt free agent

Has she got a sister by any chance.

Ok the original subject. Most rational posters are backing up my head over my heart. For some reason I’d still love for him to come here, have at least some training sessions with us to keep up fitness before he goes to the Middle East. Just for pictures. And then the very good suggestion of a forever rs induction.

Taarabt free agent
at 09:40 2 Sep 2022

I believe the attitude and fitness issues are no more. In his transformation and journey from benficas B team and loans spells, he became a different person and very professional apparently. Although I don’t know the reason their manager dropped him from their squad… on pitch reasons or is there still some attitude issue there.

I’m in the camp of never go back to your ex. Apart from the question of attitude and whether he has still got it at 33… We don’t need another defensive mid. Apart from striker we are relatively ok for our front 3, and to suddenly switch the position he has been playing back to specifically striker or false 9 sounds like a stretch.

Having said that. If the club talked to him and he thinks he can do a job as false 9, then get him over to train with us and make a judgement… there are a lot of ifs and buts in that. Very unrealistic

Taarabt free agent
at 09:01 2 Sep 2022

Just saw something on Twitter saying Benfica and Taarabt have mutually agreed to end his contract and that he is a free agent. A Google search found nothing to back this up. But if true…

He is 33, became a defensive midfielder and was dropped from their squad last year…. Would you if the money was right and he was willing?

How Did We Manage To Not Get A Striker?
at 08:42 2 Sep 2022

That’s interesting. Basically saying that it wasn’t villa not making him available but more about the loan fee. Surprised Watford or another club that could afford the fee didn’t get him then. Agree we shouldn’t do anything that we can’t afford.

I wonder if the situation might be different in January. If archer gets little game time by then and we make a sale. Or maybe loan fees are naturally lower in Jan etc. that’s does not only apply to archer but any decent striker. This is all on the basis that we are in a decent position to challenge for at least playoffs in jan

Now that stef and field have been swapped back around, wouldn’t it possibly effect steff more, or Amos when he is back. Anyway we have very good depth and can use the 5 subs to keep up a high intensity game

Is it a generational thing?
at 20:07 1 Sep 2022

Agreed. Not just the young. Older supporters who should have more level heads are the same. I blame many social issues and casual drugs 😀

Obvious sky and premier league era has changed this. So has external money. And to be inward looking our own eras of “amazing transfer windows” under hughes and joorabchan and then the redknapp days. It’s like a drug in itself. Some supporters now expect no less. Short memories with ffp.

Assuming he has been bought in as a starter

still a long season to go, our system clearly demands a high work rate from middle three. There are 5 subs to be used now. Stef is the age that he is. Roberts is being moved up the pitch. Amos looks like he didn’t just come through the spurs academy, he has specifically come through the Darren Anderson spurs academy of injuries ruining a career (harsh I know). So maybe fair enough.

Just hope that between roberts and dykes the striker position is good enough this season.

Still 3 hours to go

I am loving this low drama, low key, minimal rumour, quiet transfer deadline stuff. Too bad a striker today is unlikely… Armstrong will just have to carry being the third striker on his inexperienced shoulders. Although apparently we have been in contact with a free agent striker who definitely bangs in 20 goals in the champ 🤔

I also hold out hope that we will get some left back cover and need to get a few out on loan.

Obviously we have done all the deals and paperwork but just wait till 10:59 to send it for shits and giggles.

https://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-agree-deal-for-aston-villas-iroegbunam-p

Well there you go. WLS headlined this article as “deal agreed” for Iroegbunam before changing it to “close”.

They also gave update on Archer almost certainly staying put at villa and us being unlikely to sign any other striker but to use Roberts further forward.

Last sentence about us wanting left back cover if we can.

Edit: Dave mc replied to a follow up tweet which complained about us not getting a striker. His words “ No, a mistake would be signing yet another sub-par striker just to sign a striker. Besides, they might well still get a striker.”

There you go. Saved you a click

Willock or Eze?
at 14:15 1 Sep 2022

In terms of effectiveness not much in it at the moment. I’d say willock on current form gives even more end product than Eze.

However, in terms of which I’d prefer to watch. We are spoilt for choice here. I’d say Eze. Willock is a fantastic player, but is like many other players… just a lot lot better than them. Whereas Eze plays football a bit differently than others. A joy to watch. Receiving the ball in a tight spot… you don’t know what he is going to do but that he will come out with the ball or get off a good pass more often than not
