Indeed. Which is why we shouldn’t have gone down the route of “momentum” ahead of the game. Especially as some of those left out may have lost theirs.
It may not be so bad. Southgate will have learned a lot tonight. I don’t think we’ll see a few players again this tournament bar an outbreak of the plague. I think the only starter tonight who may pressure a starter from the previous games is Rose, who I thought did ok.
I see no reason why the likes of kane, henderson and lingard would be affected by this result and have their momentum halted, they played no part of the game, their confidence will still be through the roof.
I watched columbia today and if we can’t beat them, its best we come home now rather than waiting to get drilled all over by brazil the following round.

Group : Germany are out. Last 16 : Argentina or France will be out. Qtr finals : Brazil or Belgium will be out. Spain or Croatia will be out. That's 4 of the favourites gone before the semis.

Totally right. As an example, Rashford, good for short bursts, but apart from that doesn’t make the grade at the top level for a full match.
