The talk (I think in the Echo?) was that we had sold at least as many season tickets as last year - so assuming that is true - maybe they just want to use the match to get a bit more exposure / takes steps to fill the ground.

Indeed, £10 off, but email does say from £10.

No it means that the club is being proactive in trying to attract lapsed and new supporters to St Mary's after relegation.
They built the cost of doing these deals into the cost of season tickets, which they had reduced to the lowest levels since the early years at St Mary's 20 years ago.
I am the first to criticise the club when they get things wrong in ticketing and merchandising etc, but not everything they do is wrong.
Nearly 20,000 season ticket holders is a decent amount given the circumstances and I suspect that we will hit the 20k mark if we have a reasonable start to the season |  |
