Re Paul Wotton he was POY and Capt at Plymouth and in one paper he was suggested as 'The One To Watch' for Saints.

My point was not whether Portvliet was a good manager or not, but whether he was clueless about football, good players may know a lot about the game, but that doesn't make them good managers.
In his case Poortvliet who was a good coach at youth and lower tier level in Holland was brought in to manage what was actually more or less a reserve side at St Mary's, he had no chance of success, his job was to get the team and club through a tough season so they could get debt off the books and regroup the following season.
There was no point in sacking him from this perspective no one was going to keep us up , although with 28 points from his 30 games in charge he wasn't doing a bad job, | |
