Lallana has never looked like managerial material. It's a pity we didn't get Fonte here instead of him. But, I guess we can't ask for too much when we've already got Tonda Eckert.

My initial, thought when he was appointed we should be looking for someone more experienced. However, he does seem to have got the team playing, installed some belief and got fans behind him. There is no panic to appoint anyone at this time, especially as there are no stand out candidates. Eckert should continue and we re-evaluate again later.

If he keeps winning games and we haven’t offered him a contract someone will come in for him and he will be off. You can’t keep and nurture talent the way you describe.

They won’t risk losing him, it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets the job before we play Millwall. Four wins out of four, 12 points out of 12! None of us saw that coming! COYR!
| Is Tonda Eckert THE ONE? on 11:13 - Nov 26 with 1447 views | 1885_SFC | Give him the job. It's obvious the players like the fella and get on with him. They must be taking onboard his tactics/game plans too because they're suddenly busting a gut for him. I noticed in THB's post-match interview on Radio Solent in the car coming home last night that he (THB) said the preparation for each game is 'something else' or words to that effect (he was a little cagey about giving away too much detail). You can't argue with 12 points from 4 games. We won't win every game under Eckert and it'll be important to stick with him when we lose & not panic. But from what I've seen so far, he deserves the gig and good luck to the bloke. If the players like him, respect him, and step out on the pitch giving their best for him, that's good enough for me. | |

I get the feeling that they like him because they respect him - rather than the Russell Martin "love in" this bodes very well. It's also important to remember that he has done this with no Charles, Stewart or Romeo actually kicking a ball yet for him. Assuming he is appointed, January will be really important - both in terms of outgoings and incomings with quality over quantity being the key issue. I know it's early days yet but I wonder if he is the new McMenemy?

It would be somewhat easy for the players to not really give a toss when Will Still was sacked & just go through the motions - knowing a new manager was coming in & then upping their game to impress said new manager once appointed. But the way the players have taken to Tonda Eckert tells me that none of the squad was ever behind Will Still and his management style (or rather lack of) in the first place. Players were dropped for no reason, played out of position, didn't know what they were supposed to be doing, and even worse, I honestly think the players thought Still was hopeless and incapable of managing at this level. Under Tonda Eckert, the transformation is there for all to see - and long may it continue. It's the old adage of 'If it aint broke - don't fix it'.

I'm hoping we've stumbled in to getting a new and fresh manager so say let's give Tonda a go!

I totally agree it would be crazy to appoint someone else. This guy actually thinks deeply about the game and the players roles. Those preferring a more experienced manager should remember how many experienced managers we've paid big bucks to and got very average or poor results.

Yes, experience of being mediocre in the Championship for years is a negative, not a positive.

| Is Tonda Eckert THE ONE? on 22:21 - Nov 26 with 927 views | PJK1972 | Well after the last 2 games he's won me over. The QPR game we should probably have not won that. He got lucky, but luck is something a manager needs on his side,so I'm all for that. Lets face it Saints needed some luck and it's started this great run. The wins at Charlton and here against Leicester have not been in the slighlest lucky though. TA has got them breaking fast out of the press. We didn't see this in any of Will Stills games. What TA has brought is new and all about the style he is enforcing on the team. I really couldn't see anything under Will Still apart from an impotent version of Russ Ball. I think the players were not being coached (or they were just ignoring him). They were having to play based on their previous experience under RM. I think on the evidence so far it's clear TA has a working formula with this team and thats quite a rare thing, to get the team playing consistenty well. If he wins at Millwall he's got to get the job. If he loses, we'll see for the first time in the games to follow if he's a quick learner and can get the team to bounce back, in which case you have to give him until Xmas really as a minimum, but must decide before the Jan transfer window. | |
