| QPR Away 21:38 - Nov 4 with 2573 views | SaintNick | Some great trips to Loftus Road over the years, my first trip was in 1979 just before the League cup final when we won 1-0, must have been about 20 times | |

Most of the times I have been there it was bigger than the Dell to be fair and more modern

Those games were within a couple of months, weren't they? And another 4-0 loss a year before It used to be my favourite away as we had some great games there, with a packed away end and a few 'friendly' encounters with their fans (who we later became mates with), but when you go there now, with all the new stadiums and rebuilt ends, you realise how crap it is
| QPR Away on 07:27 - Nov 5 with 2228 views | 1ASIN12 | Remember my 1st 2 trips in around the mid or early 80’s league cup game we draw 0-0 and had a 2nd replay a week later and lost 4-0 I think. Can remember wishing the Dell was like loftus road at the time, can also remember a cracking atmosphere. QPR had some lads in the side terrace and the seats above which all helped. I was still at school and my dad took me, as he did in those days. | | | |

The Dell closed 24 years ago. Loftus Road continues.

I think I went to Loftus Road about 14 times when we were playing at the dell and then 6 times since we have left. So most times I went there they had a better ground than us in terms of size and facilities, but that wasn't saying much, the Dell was our home and we loved it but the facilities were awful. QPR's were not much better

The concourse in the away end is literally wide enough to swing a cat. It is in the lower tier anyway; it is about 30 years since I have been in the upper tier, so will re-acquaint myself with that tonight.

It is no better upstairs, but the facilities at the Dell were not much better than that, literally just a tea bar and a toilet at the back of the stand, under the west and the east and a narrow corridor in the upper levels of those stands. There were 3 different stands behind each goal since 1979, none of them were great in facilities

I’ve seen Hants in every final at Lords and there’s been a few over the years, great day out.

Yes a few times, including a mid season midweek friendly we won 5-2 with Ron Futcher playing for us. Original plastic pitch was terrible

Talking of how bad those original plastic pitches were, we both know a Saints fan who was stilll playing socially when those horrible pitches became popular. He was playing in goal one evening at a sports centre on 1st Gen plastic so had polyester track suit bottoms on and their normal kit shorts & socks on over the top of the trackie bottoms. Still a keen smoker at the time he tucked a slim packet of 10 and a book of matches into the top of one sock just below the side of his knee. Went to foil a quick opposition attack with a slide tackle and the friction from the plastic pitch undid the flap on the book of matches and then lit them setting his leg on fire! 😂 Happy days.
