Wayne Rooney Wants To Manage Southampton 13th Feb 2023 09:22
Perhaps the most bizarre rumour of the last 24 hours since Nathan Jones was sacked as Saints manager, is that former Everton & Manchester United player & Derby County manager & current DC United boss Wayne Rooney wants to manage Southampton. 14

I mean it's not the most stupid rumour I've heard.
He was generally well regarded at Derby wasn't he? The club was in turmoil and they kept selling all their players but he stuck to his task and gave them a fighting chance of staying up. He'd also have the instant respect of the players.

I’d take him all day long as he did really well at Derby, and a bit like Koeman, would be getting instant respect off of many fans and players as well as being a very attractive sorts coach for signing players in the future, with how world class and renowned he was as a player

So you’ve said you’d have Hassenhüttl back.
Now you’re saying you’d take Rooney all day long.

Who is next on your wish list?
Barry Fry, Ron Atkinson…

Ron Atkinson is 83 years young BTW

Not for me. All that stuff with his wife and Vardy's wife on the front pages as a distraction, no thanks.

Never managed in the PL, dodgy temperament, he could be a disaster.

Well yeah because I didn’t think about him originally, and at the same time I’d be happy with ether of them or even Nuno, as they’re all better managers for us than many of the others that we’ve been linked with

Nuno did well with a Portuguese squad, not so good with a multinational one. I think he is a good coach, but not sure if he can motivate players enough.

No he didn't do really well at Derby.

Do you really believe that he would gain instant respect ? He has delivered nothing as a manager.

He gave a good perception of doing well at Derby because of the state they were in and stuck it all out through dismal financial situation. He's not exactly set the world alight in the MLS

Well actually he did do well at derby as they were getting all sorts of points deductions and punishments yet he still almost managed to keep them up and had many fans really likening him and backing him there, but had to leave because of the state the club was in.

And yeah he’s not delivering anything yet as a manger, but nether had Koeman when he came here, but because of how world renowned the pair were as players, they both got instant respect off of players, coaches and even many fans for how good of a player they were. And as they were soo good it’s also good for attracting players (especially ones that play the same position as they did) as they get to learn and be taught first hand by one of the best players ever for their position.

As yeah so far he’s not done the most as a manger, but for who were looking likely to be getting, it’s hardly like any of those lot have ether, as it’s simply just experience in the prem that is something we can use to separate him and a few other mangers. But still it’s not like we’re gonna get Tuchel, Potch, Zidan etc walking through the door to try and be our new gaffer, so the margins between these lot that we will get really ain’t that big at all

I think you answered my question, with your quotes confirming , * he’s not delivering anything yet as a manger," and "so far he’s not done the most as a manger"

I sense your post must be a wind up if you genuinely believe Rooney is the best we can expect.

Yes. the options are limited given our position etc, but we can definitely do better than Rooney.
