No they don't.
They promote sameness. That's why you see the service men and women marching in uniform, the police in uniform, the Fire Brigade, Ambulance Service, Nurses, Teachers and all the Trade Unions (the Miners still being particularly noticeable) marching alongside big corporations, gay people and straight people,men and women, all walking along together peacefully and partying.
It's all about saying that gay people are part of everyday, 'ordinary' society - they just happen to be gay and want to be (and these days are able to be) open about it rather than hidden away in the corner.
And someone opposing bigotry is not being bigoted for doing so. |
The fact that they have changed the name from Gay Pride to just Pride is an admission of the otherness I was referring to and an admirable attempt be more inclusive.
But it's still a glorious celebration of being homosexual and NOT being heterosexual.

I wasn't referring to you - I was responding to the point you made about bigotry by saying that I believed that the opposite of bigotry is not bigotry.
And it's not a celebration of not being heterosexual in the slightest - there are as many straight people at Pride as gay people. It's a celebration of equality and acceptance as humans not difference.
It used to be more political and pro gay rights than it is now - that's because there were no rights when it started - you could be sacked for example for being gay let alone things like same sex marriage etc. Now it is a celebration, although it remains political in so far as it asks for equality throughout the world. | | | |

I already mentioned that Carnival does take up a lot of police cost.
It's a shame though, as 99% of people attending are partying - there's just an unfortunate small % of people that cause a bit of trouble, although a lot less than in previous years when it went through a very bad patch.

To say that you don't accept it is just ridiculous. You could say that you don't approve of it or don't agree with it but not that you don't accept its existence since it very obviously exists in both humans and also in virtually all other animal species.
The Old Testament says a lot of very stupid things, most of which I imagine that you happily ignore every single day. So why choose this one thing as something that you should follow? Why not choose the one about wearing mixed fibres, or growing different crops, or touching the flesh of a pig?

I personally think that people should be allowed to do what they want as long as it doesn't adversely affect others. I cannot imagine what adverse impact someone being gay has on anyone. If you don't believe in gay marriage then don't marry a gay is fairly sensible advice.
But people are products of their time. I don't imagine your father to be anything other than a fine man, but he will be a product of his time in the way that we all are. It's all to do with our own experiences and influences isn't it?

Im pretty certain the countries you mentioned are as overwhelmed as we are when it comes to the identity of who they are, or perceive themselves to be. Long lost origins, be that colour religion or identity seems to be the issue, and I for one see things changing daily and so dramatically in this country. We are readily leaning towards minorities, wasting masses of public money on non UK nationals both here and abroad that the divide will be so great in ten years the inevitable explosion will occur.
Or we become so diverse in our make up the UK becomes a swimming pool of nationalities all claming off the tax payer and contributing towards crime, birth, death and indeed taxes from their earnings.
It hasn't happened yet because the govt continue to hand out hundreds and thousands each week to families seated directly in front of a fifty inch screen most days watching that cnt Jeremy Kyle and thinking it's real life. As long as they have enough free money for their brew, fags and whizz the lid will remain firmly on. And all the time the genetic make up of the country and its speech structure, ability and progress is marshalled by a super mix of cultures all jostling for position as the gravey train comes round each week with pay packets for the workers and free money for the non tax paying social miscreant, regardless of birth right or culture.
