If it was your call? 08:46 - May 21 with 2625 views | TNT | You are the coach. You are releasing two Swansea youngsters at the end of the season, as you feel they are not good enough. Two Cardiff youngsters have just joined, and are better players. You have an end of season tournament and have to choose two youngsters to play and two to leave out. Which two would you play? If it was your call? on 15:39 - May 21 with 2231 views | Kilkennyjack | Swans Devept squad took a number of players to a tourno in south africa last year after they had already told them they were being released. Good job we have hundreds of millions of pounds.

If it was your call? on 16:07 - May 21 with 2190 views | SwaneeRiver | Coaches make difficult choices like this all the time. They will always choose the best players, regardless where they are from. Of course if you value your job you choose the best, and put aside any sentimentality.

It depends whether the parents of the said released players are (a) regular match day sponsors or (b) mates with senior staff at the club. BTW what is all this about development squad players being released? They can't be released if they aren't on an EPPP contract

They can if they are first year professionals for example playing in the development squad surely?

That's the under 21s. I'm assuming by 'development' squads people are referring to the system where they pay to take part in coaching sessions with the hope of getting picked up by the academy

Under 21s = DVP? The development centres irrespective of club have always been, always will be money raisers for clubs.

Ahhh. I now understand your original post. Thought it was a trick question and I too was missing something. Do the parents pay for their offspring to be in the development squads? If so, it's understandable if the club chooses the ones with the most cash. Not right and not good, especially if we want the best players available and to save huge transfer fees if the kids can make it to the 1st team squad. But understandable given our boards seeming voracity for cash at the mo.
| If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious. |

These "development" squads are a red herring. If the player is good enough, then 9 times out of 10 they'll be with the academy on an EPPP contract. The debate regarding the suitability of the academy system is for a different thread. I've made my feelings quite clear on the matter...
