It depends whether the parents of the said released players are (a) regular match day sponsors or (b) mates with senior staff at the club.
BTW what is all this about development squad players being released? They can't be released if they aren't on an EPPP contract |  |

Do the parents pay for their offspring to be in the development squads? If so, it's understandable if the club chooses the ones with the most cash.
Not right and not good, especially if we want the best players available and to save huge transfer fees if the kids can make it to the 1st team squad.
But understandable given our boards seeming voracity for cash at the mo. |  |

These "development" squads are a red herring.
If the player is good enough, then 9 times out of 10 they'll be with the academy on an EPPP contract.
