Very sad. He'd have been media trained these days. Was on the East in that game against N. Ireland at the Vetch as a 10 year old. My only memories are joining in with the Georgie Best superstar song and the crush after the game.

Tragic story,of a rare talent, tormented by demons. RIP George Best.
It's not really tragic. He had a great time partying with the stars and shagging any supermodel he wanted whenever he wanted whilst being idolised by millions and earning lots of money and drinking champagne and driving fast cars. He lived the sort of life, albeit a short one that the rest of us can only dream of.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
Marvelous, marvelous footballer. Words cannot possibly begin to describe the ability this guy had. Him and Cruyff are without doubt my favorite players all-time, and two of the absolute greatest.
Obviously a very troubled soul who used alcohol and women to cope, and wasted a lot of talent as a result. As an aside, I personally believe all the women were fine (and understandable, having seen some of them). It was really the drinking that destroyed him, both as a player and then person.
But Best still accomplished great things on the pitch, no matter his excess off it. Namely, his glorious 1968 season that ended with Man U beating Eusebio's Benfica for the European Cup. Suggested viewing for anyone interested/uninformed:
(EDIT: Full match FYI, and with English commentary)

All about opinions HJ,with all the money, adoration, women etc, quite obviously a deeply troubled soul, who struggled with his addiction.A talented footballer who lost his battle with alcohol addiction, truly sad,and in a way quite tragic.Just my way of thinking.

Yes - Pele said George was the greatest player in the world.
And that disallowed goal against England when Banks was keeper was pure genius.
What a player.....a true great of the game.
Best was the greatest for a period of time, his goal against the English should have stood (same old England), he was my favorite player, the skill he showed and the goals he scored yet only a fraction of his games were televised unlike today where every goal is on the box. What a player he was.
