The guy is a charlatan and an extremely cheap option for what should be a prestigious position in academy football. People who know their football in Swansea have seen how the guy has blagged himself through the Welsh FA, Australian FA, Cardiff City(kit man) and now the Swans academy.
What putting a guy like Roy Thomas does in charge of coaching at a Premier League academy indicates that the lack of accountability when millions of pounds are at stake is still ongoing despite what we are led to believe.

I am all for promoting from within, and it could make sense coaches rotating between 16s and 18s as the 16s move uo, and the 18s coaches then pick up the next batch of 16s.
Any coaches that leave, one from below has the opportunity to step up an age group, if they are qualified to.
BUT a role as important the Director of the Academy, when we have pumped so much into it to date, has to be advertised, and has to be given to the best we can attract. | |

Couldn't agree more. Grew up in Penlan with his brother David. Always thought of Roy as.....if he was made of chocolate,he would eat himself!
He loved himself soo much, it was unbelievable. Never reached any great heights as a footballer. I have to be honest,and say,I haven't had any contact with him for 20 yrs.
but the word bullshiter, always springs to mind,when I hear his name mentioned.
Having said that, I'm in no position to comment really on where he is now in his career, he may be a fantastic coach.
