Good Attendance! Should get a good crowd for Cambridge on Wednesday. Maybe reaching 10,000? With it still be the school holidays and the cheap prices.

Very proud to be voted Planet Swans Poster of the Year 2017 by my fellow posters. Especially on a site that nearly had 20 million impressions last year.

Spot on. If it had been Cardiff who had, had a good start to the season instead of us and had 17277 , we’d be taking the mick out of them.

Why does this keep coming up?

The population of Cardiff is over 100,000 higher than that of Swansea, and they have a much larger catchment area.

Of course their attendances will be larger.

17,000 is good for us but not good for them.

Don’t be so ridiculous. Cardiff also has a larger population than Newcastle.

You said Cardiff has a larger population to Swansea which it has, then you make the case because they have a larger population they should have larger attendances at football matches.

If so why does Newcastle get more than double what Cardiff get, when the population of Newcastle is smaller than Cardiff ?

Again. It has no bearing on the Swansea v Cardiff debate.

I would guess it's because Newcastle is a strong footballing area with a long tradition of success.

Here in South Wales we have a tradition more leaning to rugby. Although I think football is more popular now at club level.

What long tradition of success does Newcastle have ?
Population size is only one factor when it comes to attendances.

Over eighty seasons of top flight football, four league titles and a smattering of FA Cup.

They are 9th in the all time English honours list.

Cardiff averaged just over 20,000 the season they went up despite most gates late in the season being 30,000+ which suggests to me they had many gates of lower that 17,000 early in the season despite having a good start. The only reason they're having 20,000+ at the minute is people who renewed whilst hoping against hope they were staying up. Bit like us last season when we came nowhere close to this season's low of 15,000. Let's see how many they get next season.

So we agree then they don’t have a long history of success. Swansea have won more major trophy’s than them in the last 40 years.

You’re getting long term and short term mixed up.

Swans have had more success in the short term history whereas Newcastle have had more success in the longer term history.

You’re just too dense to realise it.

Big difference now in atmosphere nowdays. Hardly a plastic in sight.
Can't understand this obsession with who gets bigger crowds. Total irrelevance. Leeds/Newcastle get far bigger crowds than most yet both are struggling to win/achieve anything. Scummers up the road cling onto this in some vain hope it'll make em massive.

Yeah I’m sure all the Newcastle fans who are well into their 80’s would agree.
Also if Newcastle have a huge support due to success many, many yrs ago, why doesn’t that apply to the likes of Bury, who have won the FA cup twice.

Population size of a city is only part of whether a club is well supported or not.
Swansea/Cardiff population is fairly irrelevant in terms of support.

I was purely correcting you on the fact that Newcastle have achieved success over the long term history. Nothing more, not related to Bury or anything else for that matter.

I was commenting on the claim that Newcastle have a long history of success, which clearly they don’t. Big club , good fans , but successful they are not in terms of winning trophy’s.

That was at the vetch. Those days were rather shite. Terry Conner was decent though.
Why do you harp on about the “good old days” when they certainly weren’t good.

Because they were.

OK I've changed it.

The crowd was decent enough.. the more momentum we pick up the more the crowd will increase. We still haven't had any decent away followings either.

Question is will the owners kill the momentum and move key players on or back the Manager and keep the squad together

If we continue playing this well for the next month or so I reckon season tickets may start selling again. Cooper and his staff and the boys deserve to be playing to a sold out stadium every home game. We have the look of a side that's just starting to get going. No squeaky lucky wins, all deserved victories.

Just over 3,700 from our record attendance how much was away fans not filling their allocation? How much was cooperate not filled as were not PL? All things considered not a bad shout for home against a mid table Championship side.
