Coronavirus was back to being some kind of comic-book super-villain. We’d give it a good smack on the nose, dig deep for 12 weeks, and then everything would be more or less back to normal. First we take coronavirus, then we take Brexit. Both were things that could be “got done”. It’s not even as if Boris intentionally means to be glib. He’s desperate to be seen as a great leader. It’s just that he’s fundamentally psychologically flawed. He genuinely can’t bear anything that is too real or too meaningful as it exposes his narcissistic wound that can never heal. So he has to deflect, make light, minimise. Anything but empathy. That costs him far too much. |

Evidence from here from people that have had to use it, is that the tube is almost deserted. Even in rush hour.
I’m not sure whether that is one of the ‘nudge’ activities?
We’ve had a couple of days showing elderly people or NHS staff staring at empty shelves (trying to stop people stockpiling). We had the last 12 hours or so with loads of posts from doctors / nurses saying how bad things are (again emphasising to people how serious it is), and we’re now (after the tube has partially shut) seeing lots of pictures of crowded carriages (stay off public transport messaging).
There’s a lot of tech being used. Everyone I know in London is staying inside.
Edited to add: TFL have just released figures. Tube travel is down by 70%. Essential workers will obviously still travel.
Edited to further add: its increasingly obvious the pictures doing the rounds seem to be a targeted attack on Sadiq Khan for ‘partially shutting the tube’. I thought it made no sense. [Post edited 20 Mar 2020 16:13]
