Germany seem to be handling this pandemic a lot better than us.
Why is that?

I have a friend who has repeatedly sworn he had it in early January with all the symptoms.
His wife called last night to say that he was on his way to hospital. He's got it now.

A lot of people did, so probably had it

I had a dry cough that kept me awake and when in a middle of a cough thought my eyeballs would pop out. I had a fever for two days and had to go to bed, something that I've very rarely done in my life. I was aching. I was struggling to breathe and had to sit hunched to get air into my lungs. I missed two home games over the new year period due to it.

I can't find it but I read an interview on the BBC with a young man who can back from Wuhaun in November and had the classic symptoms.

I had a horrible dry cough that often made me vomit just trying to clear it. A loss of appetite and lack of energy.I had the shivers for 2 days, but the sweats for just a short time.I was bit breathless , but not too bad, and a rapid pulse rate of 100 bpm.I missed two games as well, including the Luton Away win.

My wife had similar symptoms, but she didn't get so much of the shivers, but had the sweats instead. It transpires, that my next door neighbour had similar too.

I'm not saying I definitely had it, but the illness I had was unlike any other I've previously encountered.

Can’t see how getting it then means you won’t get it again.

That’s the big worry, length of immunity. But the virys will surely mutate to be less lethal, to save itself.

It can mutate, but it won't get more deadly. That's what i have read anyway.

I don't think it can be caught again, but it can flare up again

Boris was too busy boasting about shaking hands with inpatients. Absolute buffoon. They aren’t being held accountable so far, even the BBC aren’t reporting on the astonishing death figures as they were when Italy hit these levels. Instead they are giving Hancock credit for acting on PPE this late in the day!

I had the symptoms when I was in Japan, September - November. I was still far from 100% by Christmas Day.

That's how I feel about it - it could be a completely unrelated seasonal flu but it was very similar to the reported manageable symptoms you described. I'd love to have the antibody test but if it shows I have had they'll just say I contracted it here so it's too late to tell if I had it in Japan. One of the guys I worked there came straight from another job in Wuhan in August and he was the first to complain of feeling unwell. I had a couple of weeks off when it hit me so I self isolated by coincidence, only leaving my room for food. Got through Five series' of Billions on Netflix and a Harry Bosch book so I was quite happy in my own uncomfortable way.

You would indeed hope for its own self preservation that it would learn not to kill us off in too great a number

HOWEVER: The 1918 Spanish flu pandemics second wave was massively more deadly

AFD Raised reinfection v reactivation in the main thread In relation to multiple cases of it seeming to reappear in recovered victims. A link to a report on this was posted (extract below).

I think Lisa dismissed this as not reinfection, however the report did not seem to support that. For now them believing one thing is likely, whilst an investigation is ongoing, does not preclude the other...

‘A specialist team has been sent to conduct an epidemiological investigation in the city, which is the epicenter of the epidemic in South Korea, the agency says.

For now, the KCDC’s director-general, Jeong Eun-kyeong, believes it is likely the infection was re-activated after remaining dormant in the patients, as opposed to them being reinfected, the report said.

Either way, it strengthens fears that the contagion remains a hidden danger even after it appears to have gone – with whistleblowing Chinese doctors previously warning it is even deadlier the second time.

Doctors on the front lines in Wuhan – where the virus first originated – previously said as many as 10% of those assumed to have recovered had tested positive again. At least one patient – Li Liang, 36 – reportedly died from the disease after previously getting the all-clear.

Interesting Chinese Doctors saying it is even deadlier the second time.

Lisa didn’t dismiss it. Lisa said that the medical experts here were saying that apart from in a tiny number of people (as happens with many viruses, if not all - no idea whether it is all or not or whether some have absolutely no reinfection) they didn’t believe that people would catch it twice.

Lisa also pointed out that the article someone posted the other day, said that they didn’t believe it was reinfection. And neither have they said that they think it is today. They think it’s a fault in testing where the virus hadn’t gone and instead is dormant. You have literally posted that below where the Koreans are saying the same thing. It’s not ‘reinfected the second time’ it’s the virus not being eradicated.

I took the figures from the ONS for 2018 which clearly show spending at 50% higher than the UK. Why the BBC decided to quote figures for 2016 I have no idea.

I read it earlier, here it is . https://nypost.com/2020/04/07/

So not reinfected then.

AFD was not saying it was reinfection he was just giving that as an option alongside reactivation (he described that as remaining dormant)

As above you dismissed reinfection, but as I explained in my previous post and as can be seen from the report, reinfection was not precluded, it is just for now they believe it is likely that it is reactivation, which is entirely in line with what AFD said. In fact, as I quoted, the report goes on to say in either case underlining the fact That it could be either.

So exactly as I said in my previous post
