UK trade deal done with Japan on 19:23 - Sep 13 by Kilkennyjack

Riddle us this ...

You make (say) metal boxes in Oldham.
Great product, normally demand from EU ...but new deal Brexit screws export to existing clients.
Existing clients source similar metal boxes from Holland (say).

So you lose existing happy clients due to Brexit.
Great don't worry though new trade deals with Japan (and China and India exist).
NB: EU already has a deal with Japan, but lets pretend it does not exist.

How the feck are you going to transport said metal boxes to Japan - and still keep the price attractive compared to the Japanese metal box makers. Its not possible.

So the company shrinks.
You can multiple this for China, India, and USA.

The information economy might be different, but manufacturing is fully screwed.

Brexidiots - you own this shiteshow ....

Also Irish Americans are all in Republican side, not just Dems.

Good question, I have often wondered why it could be cheaper to buy New Zealand lamb than Welsh lamb. How can they provide something that cheap from thousands of miles away that would undercut local lamb,

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-

and if it can be done with Lamb, what else can it be done with?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Lol. It’s worth about 0.07% of what we got through the EU. 😂😂😂😂😂

Isn't that 0.07 of UK GDP, not EU trade? Wouldn't it be worth about 5% of our exports to the EU?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

We already have.

Tens of thousands of jobs have moved from uk to eu.

Take a look here

Didn't we lose a lot of jobs to the EU while we were members? We lost 47% of our fishing fleet and went from being a net exporter of fish to a net importer. That's just in fishing.

I'm sure there'd be proper figures somewhere, covering all sectors. A Belgian study says that if it's a no deal brexit that the UK could lose around half a million jobs and the EU will lose around 700 thousand, who knows really? It's a lot of precictions and there are so many possibilities.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Yes, good luck to you in the metal box business, and good luck to your fellow Irishmen without a deal with the UK

Ireland have not created this situation.
Johnson has.

Lets see how funny it is when the Irish Americans sink the UK trade deal.

Break the GFA and the uk will regret it.

British fishermen sold their fishing licences.

A bit like Thatcher selling of oil, gas, coal, steel and the railways.

Sold. So lets not bitch about it.

You should read the link and educate yourself.

Here is an extract ...

The committee was told up to 93% of Welsh lamb exports currently go to the EU and, if the UK was unable to strike a trade deal with the EU after Brexit, they would face a 12% tariff under World Trade Organisation rules.

Well done genius, Brexit is a top idea. Easiest deal ever.

Johnson didn't create the situation.
WE voted for it.
Why?
Because of what the EEC has morphed into against our will without our consultation.

Ireland only entered the EU because we did, if your kind play their stupid bitter games and we have to leave without a deal it will be Ireland that suffers.
Perhaps the US will bankroll you though hey?
You'd like that wouldn't you.

It will be the EU and the Republic that breaks the GFA.
Enjoy paying for your precious single market in the future, paying to use our roads, and good luck replacing us as a trading partner

It's a pisspot of a deal. 15 billion is peanuts. The Eu will not allow the Uk to undercut them. They have stated they will put tariffs on our food imports if we do.

The EU has a market of 550 ppl, ours is 65 million. They have the leverage, guess who wins here. It's no good looking at WTO either as they are less favourable. In short, if we don't play ball with the EU we are stuffed

Strange that, seems to me the EU are desperate for a deal with us...you and Kilkypants seem desperate for the UK to fail, why? We are out of the EU, surely it's best to even look for the positives...there are many! I don't understand people like you, we will be fine

Slugpants - you are a fecking div.

You need to think for yourself.
If Harold Shipman was PM and said his murderous actions were just a specific and limited breach of the law then you would simply say ‘yes Harold’, and look for the positives.

How Johnson loves dumb fecks like you.

Oh yes, Geoffrey Cox the previous AG also thinks Johnson is clearly wrong. Perhaps he should be like a simple child and ‘look for the positives ....’. Laughable.

Being a member of the EU limits our international influence.
We'll have more control of our laws and regulations, without EU policies imposed on us.
Our security will benefit from full border controls.
We will not be contributing billions of pounds to the EU every year.
We'll be able to fully capitalise on trade with other major economies like the US, Japan, India.
The EUs slow and inflexible bureaucracy prohibits smaller businesses to do business.
Global trade agreements and selective immigration would improve our job situation.
I've also read up and didn't realise that the average person loses hundreds of pounds each year due to EU VAT contributions and agricultural subsidies policies, obviously that'll stop!

Now, I know I've just wasted 10 minutes of my life there but there you have it, like it or lump it!!!

4 years and out of EU, read it and weep arse-face

Actually Kilk, it wasn't the fishermens fault. It was politicians, again,

https://unearthed.greenpeace.o

The Uk was sold short by it's own politicians, possibly because they were infatuated with the EU and probably because they were looking after their rich friends.

It usually comes back to politicians, the rich and powerful and greed.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Of course they would like a deal, but they aren't desperate. they won't be dictated to by a country that has already left the union. They will not allow us to undercut any trade deals that they have. They can't stop us, but will use influence and leverage to do just that.

If we don't allow them access to our fishing grounds, they will put big tariffs on our fish and it won't get sold

We can call it blackmail or bullying or whatever, but that is the reality
0

Article in the FT today suggests that the deal with Japan has tighter rules on state aid that the former deal with the EU.

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable that me can elaborate if this is important or not. At face value it reads like less power for the UK...

If the EU fishing fleet can't catch enough fish, UK fish will still be bought, the tariffs you suggest would just mean food costing more for EU citizens.

That is the reality of tariffs, they don't affect the politicians so much because they have subsidised shops and restaurants in their Brussels bubbles as well as the expense accounts.

Another reality is the trade deficit in goods. We spend around 70 billion more there than they spend here, such tariffs will be returned in kind so if trade does drop it will, in cash terms affect the EU more. Again the reality is politicians will hardly notice but the rest of us will see higher prices. That's why it's up to us all to pressure them (politicians) to sort it out.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

What’s that you say? The reds are still doing slavery? 😂

We are very different economies, we will be selling different things.
The point, which you always miss (‘cos your comprehension is derisory), is that countries can trade all across the world pretty easily and cheaply these days. They use big ships and those metal boxes you were wittering on about.
It’s how New Zealand lamb gets here.
I haven’t really got time to go through the minutiae with you but spend a little time considering the trade of Scottish whiskey, or Burberry clothing...I’m definitely not going near services, that will blow your tiny, ill nourished, blinkered mind 😂

Now there's this from 2017,

https://www.irishtimes.com/opi

and hasn't there been a new Irish political party formed to push for Irexit?

https://www.irishfreedom.ie/

and haven't I seen today, somewhere, an Irish politician suggesting Irexit a real possibility? can't find the link though.

Then remember who is Irelands largest single country trading partner and who will suffer most under a no deal. In which case the EU may be pushing Ireland towards their own exit. Unintended consequences and all that!

I believe they have said they won't buy our fish at all. There would be many countries willing to sell fish to the EU as they will have our share of the market.
