Personally would love to hear if your opinions are changing or are they as they were, or is he just persona non grata, no redemption.

Laughable that “ lockdown “ is being attributed to teams either playing better or worse when in reality this change in form and results happens every season. Regardless of COVID-19!

If teams lose key player’s with injury or transfer or loss of form or change of manager then yes these things happen. Anyone recall our run from March onwards in 1981 when we went from 10th to get promotion to the 1st Division under Tosh with no Coronavirus in sight 😂

To Steve Cooper: keep up your incredible work at our Club, your efforts must be applauded. 👏

Its amazing how quickly assessments become black or white regarding coaches. In my opinion both Potter and Cooper did/are doing very well however they both have flaws. The key issue is do they learn over time.

Potter was brilliant when he came, in very little time he pulled together a team from very little resource and he had us playing great football and winning. His flaws were changing formation too much (which he sorted) but he couldnt seem to learn from the goals we conceded from set pieces, so we just kept on conceding them. In the end that's why we didnt push for promotion, but the football was great.

When Cooper came in, I had concerns as he hadn't coached a season of football, even though he had success with the England u17s ( I tended to write that off, how little I realised how important it would be).

Again Cooper pulled a team together, after key players had been sold, with almost no resource. The football wasnt great but there was determination in the team and he sorted out our defensive set piece. His flaws were he couldnt get us playing the passing game and we conceded too many goals from open play.

The change did happen after lockdown and it probably was forced but he made the change and we started to play better, and surprised everyone.

This season has he addressed his flaws, well we are arent conceding from open play (fingers crossed, at all) and we look very solid. The first signs of the passing game happened at Wycombe, but reserved judgement until it happens over a number of matches including against top teams.

I believe this transfer window we have seen for the first time the real constraints Cooper is working under.

Just please sort out the subs, give them some time on the pitch rather than single digit minutes.

For me Cooper has done well but needs to get the playing style functioning against all teams, but for anyone to say he is persona non grata is misunderstanding what he has done.

One question worth considering, now that Birch and Leon are gone, what type of manager do you think our owners would get if Cooper left?

That why we always need a continuation of characters who are Swansea City men and a link to previous teams. Alan Tate is still there, not sure what other backroom staff there are still there, but there must always be a strong voice to pull people back in line. I'm not a fan of jobs for the boys, however, with Ashley Williams lack of a club, could this be a perfect time to bring him back to the club in a coaching/mentoring capacity?

Seconded.

Interesting question whether "if Cooper left" from a couple of perspectives. Firstly, other than Cooper it's not clear who has the baton of maintaining our Swansea playing philosophy, can't be Tatey. Secondly (MartinSwan), as your post is considered, well balanced and insightful, do you have further insight whether Cooper is leaving ?

If he is leaving, then without Birch and Leon we are potentially exposed to the American/Winter axis. Wagner did well initially but not our style. Interesting times.

I don't know, but with the increasing transfer frustration, my reading was if we hadn't got a striker in there would have been a real risk.

Probably not now, at least I hope not. It could become an issue again in January if we are doing well, and SC believes we need extra hands or some of the loanees get pulled back and support isnt forthcoming.

I know some people may not believe it but SC could be poached at the end of the season, its happened before.

No doubt many good clubs will be sniffing around.

He's totally outsmarted the much acclaimed Rowett so far today.

The plot thickens.

We need a "Cooper In" thread to demonstrate the good fans' support and commitment to all his hard work, results and upward trajectory. Imagine if the powers that be were to read some of the hideous material on the forums.

Those that have vociferously opposed his efforts now have an opportunity to show some support. It's not too late.

Good on him for speaking his mind publically.

This news is a bit worrying.

Giving away a corner was like conceding a pelanty under Potter. Cooper has improved that aspect massively.

That hasn't changed either looking at the goals Brighton are conceding under Potter this season so far.

I was a huge fan of Potter and still am, but the football we are playing under Cooper seems to be improving. The performance yesterday has been underrated, lots on twitter saying we were boring but I thought we played some lovely stuff starting with Benda at the back, 60% possession against a side that should of beaten Brentford last week.

Still not good enough in final third, but he's trying to sort this before the window closes.

Jury’s our for me but if he carries on getting results I suppose he is the right man, cant say I’ve taken to him though and we really are awful to watch at times.

One thing I can’t buy into though is that we are considerably weaker than we were under Potter - how?

Potter had Ollie and a few months out of Dan James. Cooper had Brewster and Gallagher and chose not to go with Celina. Injuries aside both had Grimes, Byers, Rodon, VdH, Roberts and Naughton, and Cooper has been able to add Ayew, Guehi, Gibbs-White, Lowe, Smith - so how are we weaker?

Interesing point about the relative strengths of Potter and Coopers team. You argue that Cooper is not doing better because his team is as strong as that of Potter.

What is beyond doubt is that Potter not only had a much bigger budget allowing him to keep Nordfledt, Olsen, MVH, Fer, he also had James and McBurnie on a steep upward trajectory plus 4 of his own signings. Celina, John, Asoro and McKay for a combined spend of £7m. He also went into a terminal strop when he was not allowed to waste another £6m on Woods who was thoughly outclassed yesterday. Had the much maligned US owners agreed that would have been £13m of unwanted players for Cooper to move on.

Cooper appears to be achieving more than Potter did with a much lower budget and no superstar Premier league level forwards from the academy. Getting more for less £. Just what Unce Sam wants.
