| What a waste of money 20:42 - Dec 21 with 2549 views | Andy1300 | Sending every house a letter explaining what’s all over the tv all day every day. What’s even more scandalous is that they wasted even more money by putting a welsh version in the envelope. Straight in the recycling. And I thought Swansea council was strapped for cash! | |

| What a waste of money on 18:27 - Dec 22 by Neath_Jack | That is not the fault of Welsh Language, no matter how many times you try to say it. There is no correlation, whatsoever, between the amount spent on the Welsh language, and that of the NHS. None. Zero. Zip. Why don't you have a pop at the funding for, I don't know, let's say Art. Or, why don't we look at the savings to be had from within the NHS if it were run correctly? There are a multitude of places that money can be saved from. |
Now then...ART....NHS run correctly...you won't get any argument from me. Like I said, how many other drops in the ocean are wasted! It can't be the fault of the Welsh language now, come on. It's entirely the fault of the Senedd. You cannot blame a language for whay humans do.

Ive said countless times asking questions of Welsh leads to personal threats. It is a language ,no more no less. My dad spoke it,as did his lot .My mum didnt and hated it. When dad's family moved to Swansea,an English speaking town by 90% ,they spoke English and not Welsh as they were in business and people ,then,in Swansea had little to do with Welsh in everyday life, apart from the Swansea Valley. Welsh kid need to expand their mind to culture and languages far away from Wales. Looking inwards is no future |
So, is the 10% correct or not?

Of course a language cannot be blamed. This is bizarre thinking. Language is intangible. It is the contents of discourse that are key not the language itself.

Why are you so bothered old chap, what we do in Wales has no bearing on you. We will keep our Welsh language, it's only going to go from strength to strength. When Independence comes, it will explode even more. Can't wait.

Unfortunately you live in the past and things have changed from the 1960s and early 1970s when you lived in Swansea. In 1969 the first Welsh comprehensive was opened in Ystalyfera. Demand for places and local government reorganisation led to Swansea opening its own Welsh Comprehensive in Gowerton. Such was the demand for Welsh language education the City and County of Swansea had to open a second Welsh comprehensive in Penlan. Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr in Gowerton was the only secondary school in Swansea to be oversubscribed last year or the one before. To feed these schools there are Welsh primary schools in Brynmill, West Cross, Waunarlwydd, Llangyfelach, Llansamlet and Clydach. People who dont speak Welsh are choosing Welsh language education for their kids. Things have changed from your day and it is time for you to recognise it. There are Welsh language schools everywhere. There are 3 Welsh language comprehensives in Cardiff. Swansea and Neath Port Talbot have 2 each and I believe they have even opened one in Barry. Parents are making these decisions and many dont speak Welsh themselves but want their children growing up learning it. There was a report out recently that Welsh is the fastest growing language in the Uk. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wa

Of course the language will remain Son. That is my point if you take your head from your backside, you d see I mentioned that. Independence? It will not happen. Welsh people, even those batards who dont speak Welsh will nt let it happen so you can polish those chips on those shoulders for some years to come. And it DOES affect me actually, wus

Try quoting the correct poster. Makes no odds what you think, believe, or want. Wales is nothing to do with you anymore, other than giving you a subject to slag off. We will be Independent, no matter how much that irks you. We will be free. This land is ours. Have a pleasant Christmas.

I have no intention in getting into a slagging match with you but would be interested in knowing your thoughts. Do you really think Wales will ever have independence? How long would you envisage it taking, if the answer above is yes? How would Wales go about implementing the change?

Let’s have a vote in Wales 1 Do you want independence? 2 do you powers for the WA revoked & power returned to Westminster Those wanting independence wouldn’t go for it as they know the outcome no matter the constant bullshite posted by a few on here.

I am interested in his thoughts. I can remember the FWA of the 60s and the burning of holiday homes in Wales of the late 70s and early 80s. I can remember winding up the "English weekenders" in Trapp in the early 80s. When throughout the summer there were 5K runs on a Friday evening when hundreds of runners descended on the village forcing visitors to park miles from their holiday home. Since then everything has gone very quiet, in my mind.

Yes, absolutely we will be independent one day, whether that is in my lifetime is another thing. Once Scotland go, Ireland will be united, then we will follow.

I have spoken to many in Scotland over the last 2 years and although they voted for the SNP they would not vote for independence, only a couple said they would vote for independence. Granted these have only been in in the Motherwell/Glasgow/Edinburgh/Falkirk area and not further north. But if there was a vote possibly the result would not be clear cut.

If this current bunch of incompetent buffoons in cardiff is any indication of how to run a country then no thanks I'll stick with westminster .

Agreed. Add to that the last year will change the world on the way people look at things and plan for the future. We will need the dust to settle and start moving on before we can look back at the decisions that have been made. There are so many uncertainties for the future nobody can say how the political future will pan out. People who have a strong allegiance to a particular party will stick with them and slag off the others. Many, like myself, with no political allegiance will look at what has been done and if it could have been better under the circumstances. Personally I think the Senedd and Westminster have made very poor decisions, as I say we will just have to wait and see how it pans out.

And nobody has suggested that if we had a vote now, or even in 5 years time, that Independence would win. It's a while away yet, but it will happen.
