Good bye to Mr and Mr then on 17:46 - Feb 16 by onehunglow
Hello Lisa. Outrage is your word not mine. You seem to be defending this bizarre suggestion and bizarre it is as it is also unnecessary.
Just how did we get to this situation in life when hitherto, both you ,mine and millions of others are quite happy with Mr and Mrs. To suggest Mx is somehow more apposite or worthy is quite incredible. We do not need this. The world faces far greater challenges and seems to many to have its priorities skewed.
Finally,if the Conservatives had suggested this, there would be ridicule on an epic scale.
It may be unnecessary for you but I’m sure there are those who would welcome a non gendered title option.
Doesn’t harm me even slightly.
I don’t like Miss / Mrs to be honest. I fail to see why a woman’s title is different depending on marital status. It isn’t for men. Ms is, in my opinion, preferable. Many women of my age and younger tend to use it in preference, particularly in work. Some would not agree. That’s fine. People can use whatever they want. Including Mx if it makes things better for them.
We got to this situation because the world worked far better for some groups than for others. The others have now said “enough“. Most complaints about changes arising from that come from those who were part of the group it worked well for previously. Unsurprisingly.

I think it’s fair to say that for a lot of the girls I was in school with the transition from Miss to Mrs was something they looked forward to immensely. Their horizon was no doubt viewed from a much narrower angle than yours, it didn’t have the breadth your ability allowed. To have a home and family of their own was the aim, the end in itself.
There’s not a lot wrong with that, is there?
An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Speaking of idiots, hopefully whoever it is that’s in charge will have free rein over improving the teaching of English. The phrase is referring to a horse not the monarch...
Brutal!

Not at all. As I said, some would not agree and that’s fine. All options should be there.
I’m of the very basic belief that people should be allowed to do whatever it is that makes their lives as happy as possible, as long as it doesn’t affect the ability of others to do the same.
I also, by the way, have the belief that having a home and family, whatever exact form that takes, is the aim of the vast majority of us, me included.

“ Could you imagine a day where we would be getting or denied jobs not on ability but on who we are attracted to? Madness.”
Indeed. The number of places that still ban the recruitment of gay people is unbelievable in the 21st century. Some States in the US in particular are shocking in this regard.
Mike Pence’s wife, as an example, works for a school that bans gay employees.
Even in the UK there are jobs you cannot be appointed to if you are gay. I assume that’s what you were referring to?
I was referring to any position where ability is overlooked and you are employed or refused employment on such things as who you are attracted to.
I wasn’t referring to a specific instance, more the California mandate of employing by quota of identity, which of course also means refusing to employ people based on their identity. Identity politics is something I detest (more specifically what it leads to).
If you wanted to complain about the plight of some people you could have just done it, you know? Instead of pretending you didn’t understand my post and using it as a springboard for it. But if you wanted a comment regarding that... yep awful.
But back to my point, you can certainly see why there is a mass exodus from California. Too much fuzzy thinking and pandering politics stifling common sense. Probably the most un-livable place for anyone with ambition in America. If you do well enough, they will even slap you with a 54% tax rate while you are at it.

The proposal, of course, doesn’t say what is being claimed and is causing the ‘outrage’ on this thread.
I often think people would get less worked up if only they could read.
The suggestion is that forms include Mx as an alternative to the already established titles. Presumably since people that don’t identify as either Mr, Mrs, Ms, Miss etc etc also wish to call themselves what they want.
Can’t see why it would remotely bother anybody unaffected.
Indeed, however my reasoning remains Lisa, just a flippant remark though. A mere box to tick having read the detail seems to me to be yet another box that has been ticked.
A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

What about the rest of it? Would you be comfortable sharing a changing room or toilet with men?
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

I don’t mind 🤷ðŸ»
Going off topic slightly when I was younger I went camping in West Virginia. The toilet block there was slightly odd in that it didn’t have any cubicles. It was just two rows of toilets facing each other. Every time I went for a Gary Glit I had this big fat bloke taking a massive dump right in front of me.
And no it wasn’t a mirror before you smart arses chirp in.
But you had women, kids all in there together. It was surreal but it might have been a glimpse of the future.

Nothing like a glimpse whilst camping mate 😉

I don't want to watch others taking a dump, I don't care if it's a gorgeous woman, I don't care who it is, I don't need to see it.

I've wondered about this myself, because, about 3 years ago I was in the local pub, and a person (born and raised as male) came in, but was now dressing as a woman.
It wasn't a massive surprise to most of the regulars, as they had seen him walking about the village in his female attire for a while, so other than the occasional glance, everyone was fine about it (myself included).
After a few drinks he/she went into the ladies, presumably for a wee, the poor old landlord didn't know what to do (he decided to say or do nothing), there were no women present other than the barmaid, so maybe that helped.
Awkward situation mind, but fair play to him/her showed a hell of a lot spirit.

Nope - you posted without it occurring that exactly the same thing has been and is happening in reverse across many more States and countries than California. They don’t refuse to employ people who are not a minority. Firstly the diversity targets are at board level, and secondly they are additive not instead of.
It’s always amusing when Trumpies say how they hate identity politics when the whole ‘Maga’ thing is more tied up with identity than anything the ‘other side’ ever indulge in. They even all have little matching hats ffs. It being illegal to employ someone because the are gay is as much ‘identity politics’ as employing someone because they are gay. And the former is far more prevalent than the latter.
California doesn’t have any tax rate of 54% btw. The top rate that applies there is just over 50%. And that’s for earnings in excess of $1m. Not much different than we have in the UK and ours kicks in at around £150k. California has relatively reasonable sales and property taxes of course. It’s all swings and roundabouts. And many of the biggest companies in the US are still based there, including Apple, Alphabet, Intel, Chevron, HP, and Facebook. Yes, Tesla have moved with the usual ‘look at me’ trumpeting from Elon Musk, but much of that was around incentives.

If ticking a box makes some people feel a bit more included and it has no effect on everyone else then it’s all good.

There’s no suggestion I can see to do that? The issue is around trans women not men as far as I can see. Would I share with trans women? Yes. Have done so on many occasions. I have worked with transgender women in the past and they’ve used the ladies. No issue whatsoever.

“Mr Sobel has also supported contentious trans-rights reforms including the abolition of single-sex changing rooms, toilets and prisons.
Women who object are bigots who should not vote Labour, the MP declared.”
Seems like a nice man.

That’s the reporting in the Mail, not necessarily accurate? But I wasn’t commenting on him, I was answering the question you posed. What he says or doesn’t say isn’t relevant to that. I’ve no idea who he is.
