| “We need to rotate” 19:32 - Mar 20 with 13067 views | Dr_Parnassus | Can we stop with that nonsense now please, and realise the fact that we have an incredibly front loaded and lop sided squad. Bidwell looked like a player that had been rotated, no sharpness and no fluidity and about 3 yards off the pace. Whittaker for all his effort has nowhere near the physical attributes to be playing at this level yet, he showed what he could be at times and is going to be a very good player I have no doubt, but he was knocked off the ball every time he was challenged and we gave up possession far too easily. Naughton is not a centre back and what benefits he may give us when we have the ball sadly we lose without it, we were dominated in the air in both boxes. We need to play our best team and accept we will be tired at times, that’s the nature of football when you don’t have a big squad full of quality. Which is something we don’t have despite many pretending otherwise. I am full of praise for the management team and their achievements thus far but one area where I feel disappointed in is I don’t think they have blocked out the noise efficiently enough. To me, it looks like they have allowed desperate opinion to be picked up by journalists and has allowed that to permeate their decision making. This latest game seems to be the epitome of that. It was a disjointed game with what looked like a cobbled together team. Cabango, Lowe and Smith have to start. | |

| “We need to rotate” on 11:57 - Apr 8 by Dr_Parnassus | Yes I know, but I am talking about you. Judging from what you have said, all it will take for you to also change your opinion on what has already gone on - id for him to change his. Right? Not talking about pass completion rate, I am saying as a team we have played better this season with Cabango there than Naughton. We have more of the ball, score more, concede less and pick up more points. We shoehorned that into a myriad of things to try and show the opposite yet it always came back the same. My opinion is based on the facts not someone else's opinion. For me to change my opinion someone would have to demonstrate that we are a worse team with Cabango there and show evidence of it. That's impossible because everything points to the opposite. |
Well I can change my opinion too. I don’t always agree with Steve Cooper and wouldn’t agree with him if he dropped Naughton for Cabango. If we then went on a run of markedly better performances, I would change my opinion. Likewise, if Naughton had a run of nightmare performances, that would change it too. I don’t agree with the continued selection of Hourihane, but accept that given his position and CV, compared to mine being a fan, his will usually hold more water. You’re now saying yours is an opinion based on facts, which is fine. You were previously saying your opinion was fact.

Then the point doesn't stand of why would a professional manager play someone who is a weaker player. Because by your own admission if he did, you wouldn't agree with him. So the fact he plays him is now a moot point. No, it is a fact that we have played better with Cabango there. It is my opinion that trend would continue, and as it stands there is nothing suggesting that is incorrect.

In my opinion he’s not, in his opinion he’s not, in your opinion he is. His opinion probably has more gravitas than either of ours, which was my point. That doesn’t make his opinion fact and doesn’t mean anyone has to agree with it. Without disrespect, I put more faith in a manager’s opinion on team selection than any fans, including my own. You can stand by your opinion all you like. It won’t ever make it a fact.

He is what? It is a fact we have played better with him in the side over Naughton, that isn't an opinion. Others may have the opinion that would not continue, which is fair enough. But there is nothing to demonstrate that other than a hunch, which obviously is not enough to convince me. No offence taken, however you have just said if the manager's opinion differed to yours you still wouldn't agree with him so not sure what you are saying with regards to that anymore. It's changing by the post. I will stand by the fact we have played better with him in the side and will stand by my opinion that it would probably continue to be the case.

Picking a weaker player. I’m not sure how else to simplify this. I’ve got my opinion, you’ve got yours, Cooper has his. None are facts. A Championship manager having the same opinion to me on this subject lends credence to mine. That doesn’t mean it’s fact or I automatically have to agree with him, it’s just a degree of validation. More so than a fan agreeing with me would be. Again, you can stand by that opinion as much as you like, your opinion is not final and not fact. What you will eventually achieve by asserting it is over and over again, is getting me to the point where I lose interest in the thread.

I don't know why you keep repeating the same thing. It is a fact we played better with Cabango there, not an opinion. It is my opinion that the trend would continue, it is yours that it wouldn't. What Cooper thinks is irrelevant to the discussion as you have said if he starts picking Cabango you would disagree with him. So he is irrelevant to your discussion. I will always stand by my opinion, as you no doubt will with yours. But I will also stand by the facts that the opinion is based on, which is that we have played better this season with him there. I don't have the desire for you to be engaged in the thread, I am not sure why you becoming disinterested by our circular discussion is a deterrent? If it deters you from making the same point over and over again then maybe that's a good thing for everyone?

Not at all. I put forward a point, I then show exactly why I am making that point and back it with a whole host of things. People then state that maybe if certain aspects weren't applied then it may be different, I provided them and it still showed my point. If people then choose to give up discussing it then that's on them. But I already know what I have said is correct regardless of who decided to ''give up'', join in or continue. I have provided all the information and facts to show that. Those don't change just because someone doesn't like it. Sorry. [Post edited 8 Apr 2021 13:20]

Maybe there is a different definition of fact in Australia? An opinion backed up by facts, is fine. It’s not a fact in its own right. You can’t change that. If I give up on this thread, we’ll both move on, if I don’t, you’ll keep on asserting your opinion is fact. Hours, days, weeks, won’t matter. That’s undoubtedly your MO. Personally, I’d prefer the former.

Nope a fact is the same everywhere. We have more possession with Cabango there, we concede less goals, we score more goals, we earn more points - we play better. Not an opinion. My opinion is the part I think that this would continue. The rest is already determined. If you don’t wish to move on I will continue stating these facts are facts, yes. Facts you don’t seem to like, but facts all the same and yes there is no time limit to threads, I would happily hold a conversation for years without any issues at all. Talking football is fantastic, especially when the facts clearly show what you are saying.

You possibly need to get out a bit more then. I enjoy football discussions too, educating you around the difference between a fact and opinion is tedious. If it was fact, Cabango would be first choice there every time. No one can deny absolute facts, not even football managers.

I ve always viewed Naughton as weak,if not a coward. He ha a history of bottling out in different ways whether its physical or simply getting red cards becaue he can't cope. One who should never have had another contract along with Routledge,,,now a parody of the half decent player he was 10 years ago. Cabango has some balls and exudes class. Those who cant see it know jackshyte. The lad, along with others another victim of grotesque man management. Folks, it doesn't matter who is selected by Steve. He will destroy them.As should be obvious.

That’s absolutely fine. I don’t agree at all that he is a bottler, but I certainly wouldn’t argue he’s not physically weaker, or shorter, than Cabango. I also agree he’s got bottle. I’ve said a few times, I’d always start him in a 442. My opinion, is that he’s not the player you’d want carrying the ball forward, or to have a winger running at in space if Roberts is caught upfield. It’s a more complex position that requires more than height, power and aggression. Edit - second paragraph relates to BC [Post edited 8 Apr 2021 13:47]

Out? It’s an internet form available wherever there is internet, they do have mobile data in Wales right? I’m sure they did when I left anyway. There is no education between a fact and opinion. A fact is something that is demonstrably true, such as we have played better with Cabango on the right of the 3. An opinion is something that is yet to be proven, such as I believe that trend would continue. It’s that simple. You are making the point of authority, which is flawed. To take this political as someone did earlier, that would mean every decision Donald Trump made was correct simply because he made those decisions and was President. Doesn’t quite add up, does it? It also suggests that a football manager can never be sacked because everything they do must be correct. As I said earlier (twice), football is littered with players that are not preferred despite clearly being better. You seem to be lost in someone else’s opinion. I can’t help you with that. All I can do is show the facts that as a team we play better with Cabango there in almost every single department.

Naughton is fine, a good pro, experienced and decent on the ball. Certainly someone I would rather we have than not. But you don’t have to look very hard to see how we perform with and without him, Cooper clearly like Naughton better regardless - that’s up to him. But given the clear nature of the difference he would have his work cut out to make any sort of valid argument, I can only assume it’s a personality thing. I like Cooper despite the ridiculous levels of dislike for him on here. But he doesn’t seem to be rising to the challenge of lifting the players in a difficult moment. I don’t buy the fatigue argument at all as you know, this looks like a confidence issue and it’s down to Cooper to fix that. So far he hasn’t shown any signs of being able to. That could be a glaring flaw in his management that until now has not been exposed. [Post edited 8 Apr 2021 14:08]

No it doesn’t. Using your example, it means Donald Trump had a better idea of how to run America than the average voter. No president or manager will get everything right, but you’d like to think they’d be better qualified to make that call than a fan. Seeing as it’s impossible for you to prove we’ve played better with Cabango there, it’s an opinion. As I’ve said already, if it was fact he’d be playing every game.

Decent on the ball, is pretty much a utility defender which comes in useful and although not specialised CAN play across the back line. He's experienced and had a decent attitude. But he’s limited. However I agree, Cabango is clearly the superior asset to the side.

But we aren’t using my opinion for anything, I was simply stating a fact that we have played better with Cabango in the right of the 3 than Naughton. My opinion doesn’t come into it. We have had more possession with Cabango there, scored more goals, conceded less, picked up more points per game. We have changed it to suit Naughton many times by adding and taking away certain criteria - it always comes out the same. You can disagree with the facts if you like. Completely up to you.

I clearly do, although I’m starting to have my doubts whether you do despite your protestations. What you mean is you only wish to accept the fact if it aligns with what you want the fact to represent. If it doesn’t then you will deny it’s a fact. Higher possession. More goals scored. Less goals conceded. More points earned. How else would you like to define playing better? All 4 are the key criteria most go to when determining how we play from game to game. No doubt the same criteria you use on any other discussion - apart from this. Put what you define as “playing better” down which is a more important key indicator than the above areas and I’ll take a look for you. I’m here to help. It’s impossible to define, which you well know. You can use facts to support your opinion. It doesn’t and won’t ever make it a fact. My opinion is that Naughton is better than Cabango on the right of the three, so is Steve Coopers. I’d never be as arrogant as to pretend that makes it a fact to suit my narrative. I’ve had to explain that the centre backs don’t ‘just split’ when we’ve got the ball and the role isn’t exactly the same defending with 2 or 3 centre backs on this thread. I’ll leave you to argue that fatigue doesn’t accumulate.

Of course it isn’t. Any normal person (that isn’t trying to be obtuse because they don’t want to lose face in a debate) can explain why a team has played well. The aim of the game is to score more than the opposition, concede less than the opposition, try and keep the ball away from them and earn points from the game. You are welcome to have your opinion who is better in that position. However in terms of the effect on the team, the team performs better when Cabango is there. Again that’s just a fact and hits all the major key indicators, it’s not an opinion. I have asked you if you would like to add any and you haven’t been able to come up with any. You haven’t had to explain anything. You took it upon yourself, expecting that it may change the facts that we play better with Cabango there - but it didn’t. I’m fully aware of the role of the wider centre backs. My point was that regardless of what positives you state Naughton brings to the position, the team suffers more by losing what Cabango brings to it. I have demonstrated that over and over again, quite clearly so. I have had to explain to you in detail why this is the case. Due to your predisposition to admitting you may be wrong you have decided that these key indicators are no longer what show team performance levels and it is something else that you can’t explain or define. It’s like having a discussion about science and someone saying “but you don’t know for sure the tooth fairy doesn’t exist”. You have stated clearly you don’t think we play better as a team with Cabango there. In order to determine that you would have to know the criteria that has led you to come to that conclusion. So state the criteria that you regularly judge games on (not just in this instance) that are more important than points earned, possession, goals scored and goals conceded - and we can look into it. As for fatigue, 96 hours is the time frame for a professional footballer (of the required fitness standing) to recover fully, including biochemical markers from the previous game. Of course that accumulates if the exertion is continued and strung within a time frame less than it takes to recover. But fatigue does not accumulate once the sufficient rest as been achieved. We can debate that too if you like? Another where facts back what I’m saying. [Post edited 8 Apr 2021 15:29]
