Do some people lose their Welshness when they settle over the bridge? 13:04 - Apr 19 with 980 viewsbuilthjack

It seems so.

Probably. Fairly understandable.

A more pertinent observation / question to me would be why do the Swans generally have more ambivalence pound for pound towards the national team than the other Welsh sides? Is it purely the Cardiff centric FAW factor?

The others on the whole generally just support Wales on the whole from my experience.

I would say it's surely the Cardiff centric.

I go away with Wales etc, but even I'm getting fed up now of Abbodanato and his chums from WOL. Cardiff fans have even started calling him out regarding it now.

Yea of course who isn't. And i fully understand Swans not fancying going away coz over the years the scumers act like cvnts. It's not only swans fans who get put off by that.

That however shouldn't affect support for the team itself and the 11 players on the pitch at the specific time. For example you will always see people having pops at the Wales team on here, the threads when Wales play are always infected by wums, which i feel isn't the case with the other Welsh clubs on the whole.

Depens on the person I reckon, and on how long you live elsewhere.

There's a South Africa lady I sometimes bump into in the park, walking the pooch. She's been in Wales 18 years but you wouldn't guess it. She hasn't got a trace of a Welsh accent, she says her son (who is born and brought up here) is very Welsh but she is still SA to the core.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Not always.
In fact ,quite the reverse when emigres bore the holy bejesus out of their (english) friend and neighbours with their Welshness. It is tedius. You 're Welsh. So what.

The author of this seems obsessed with this subject .

Do people in small towns have an inferiority complex?

Why do they feel their welshness is under threat.

If one does loses Welshness, does that make that individual deserving of the contempt that builthy, killy, tramps have for anything English.

We are seeing some horrendous posts of late about this subject and somebody need to put an end to it.

Only ever had trouble once with a Cardiff fan at a Wales game, and it was at home, some pissed up fat tw*t singing anti swansea songs on the walk from city centre to CCS. He ended up coming across as a bit of a coward.

Been living in Ingerland for about 15 years now and I'm as Welsh as I've ever been and tbh generally find Inglanders ok I think England is such a wash with people from all over the world compared to 20 yrs ago they have all but lost their identity. One thing I do on holiday is avoid Welsh people because they seem to want to buddy up with you as soon as they hear your accent as they feel it's their duty.

It was only when I went to work in England that I realised I really was Welsh (beyond sporting affiliations). It certainly made me realise I was not part of Britain either.
All fine until my accent gave me away.

I lived and worked ( still do work wise) in England , it possibly made me feel more proud of where I was from and would never hide the fact .

Foot note I've never had any bother because of it either. There's more chance of being molested by one of the 6 fingered inbreds not 40 miles away than abuse from a gentleman from Hull

Been oop north for over 33 years and I can honestly say that i am more proud of being welsh than I would be if I still lived in swansea.

Most of the people I've met have been great probably because northerners are similar to us, you obviously get the odd knuckle dragger who think they are better than me but I normally just tell them to get back to neanderthaland.

Where we live, there are many with Welsh roots and it is a short drive to wild north Wales. The welsh language fascists around Bangor ,Caernarfon and Pwllheli can be an issue for them but it doesnt stop English people buying up derelict houses and using local tradesmen and suppliers to rebuild.
Amazingly,in spite of the language morons, most English arevhappy to go into Wales and spend their money and in the process secure jobs for locals.

I have a good chum to bought a farm and campsite in Trawfynydd. They cannot wait to welcome them back-people who are vilified on this site. Says much about them.

Fireboy lives in a friendly area, proper northwest folk exactly the same as urban Welsh. Don't let anyone think different.

People in Lancashire have more in common with Swansea people than those in Cheltenham,Bury t Edmunds or Leomington Spa

It not actually amazing at all. The fascism you talk of is Welsh people speaking Welsh I suspect and thats not a threat to anyone. They have been speaking Welsh for 3000 years there.

Some English people state their objections to Welsh being spoken in Welsh shops as ignorant but are very careful not to say the same thing about the corner Asian shops where i regularly here Asian languages spoken. Some targets are viable and other are not.
