Or you can be as working class as they come - a copper in Liverpool for example, copper's wage and 2/3rds pension when they retire early to do some security work, and think you're chocolate because you moved away.

Doing all that training and getting a better well paid job, owning your own property, puts you up the ladder a bit. What you want to think you are is irrelevant.Many are proud of their working class roots, and that's fine, but as someone posted earlier, social stratification - class is an inappropriate term, is transient, and we can move up or down the ladder. Some clearly want to disassociate themselves from their roots, the policeman in Birkenhead, some don't. Therefore a millionaire footballer could still describing himself proudly as working class or the drug addict in his flat in Chelsea sadly as middle class because he’s sitting on a family fortune.
