It’s a terrible state of affairs. In my opinion she was ill advised to travel to Iran, it’s hardly renowned for its a Human Rights record and it’s claimed to be a sponsor of all sorts of skullduggery, that said her parents live there and it can’t be easy not being able to see your parents. Her plight hasn’t been made any easier by Boris who made ill informed comments which theIranians used against her.
My personal view is that it’s a despicable regime and whilst the decision not to deliver the tanks was spot on, if they’d paid £400m and then we refused to deliver I’d have thought they’d have a case for getting their money back. I am sure most of us would want our money in similar circumstances. | | | |

What I do know is taking hostages for bribery purposes, regardless of the situation is as bad as any Russian activity on the UK mainland in recent years. We don’t seem capable of any reaction or sanction these days, or seem to care. |  |

I guess that as we are paying them back now, then there was always a valid case to do so ... figures, yes ?
In which case, we have chosen not to pay them when they always had a seemingly valid case.
So we chose to place this lady in this position for years - and then caved and paid.
