Great news Cooper: “Kyle has shown his versatility at right-back and right centre-back, and he is a very popular member of the squad. He is highly respected and regarded as a footballer by his team-mates and the staff.” [Post edited 29 Apr 2021 14:09]

He’s a useful player but not one that should be among our highest earners (once Ayew goes). Although if Roberts goes he may have to try his hand at right wing back.

Agree. He has been great in the Championship, solid for years, but at 32 I'd be looking at replacing.

Rangel left to soon. One year is a good extension 32 is not old for a defender.

Yep I was very critical of him in the the PL but he’s a decent championship defender. If we do go up hope he’s just a bit part player.

Rangel didn't leave too soon at all. He wouldn't have played if he's been with us, money down the drain.

We were also developing Tiv Rushesha as a potential right-back before his injury. Brandon Cooper will be coming back from Newport this summer to provide extra cover at CB. I know that Naughton is solid and experienced, I'm sure he won't let us down. It is just that I think the money could have been saved and invested in a younger player signing...for example, if Guehi was available to sign full time.

Brandon was called back in January. Was injured for a bit but has played a few times for the u23s recently to try to keep fitness up. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Kyle Naughton Stays on 12:43 - Apr 30 with 404 views | ReslovenSwan1 | With budgetry considerations Swansea have to ease in academey players into the first team only when ready, Rushesha with little or no first team action could not be relied upon straight away after return from injuring. Perhaps 10 games next season or a loan to Swindon. I have noticed Jordi Govea has not played recently for the u23 after a recent high profile return. His brother though has played. Naughton may have agreed a reduced contract in line with parachute payment declines. At 32 he does not want to end up like Nathan Dyer who at 33 presuambly is close to retirement and coaching rather than turning out for Newport or Swindon. If all goes well he might be turning out marking Dan James at Old Trafford. | |

I was thinking Connor as RB with Latibeaudiere as cover. Rushesha 3rd in line. RCB could be Cabango covered by Latibeaudiere (CB = Bennett, LCB = Guehi...with Cooper in line after Latibeaudiere LB = Manning and Bidwell I know that Naughton is better cover than Cooper and Latibeaudiere at the moment (in an injury crisis we'd always have the option of switching to 4 at the back of course), but the young players won't get any minutes to improve with a 32yr old in front of them...also the money spent on Naughton could be spent on signing Guehi. Hopefully we have negotiated a reduced contract. Once again, to emphasise, I have nothing against Naughton it is just that when players get to 32 we have to think very hard about offering new contracts. Still, it's done now and I know he won't let us down.

| Kyle Naughton Stays on 18:41 - Apr 30 with 356 views | jasper_T | I can't see Brandon Cooper hanging about to be 4th/5th choice centre half next season. The lad is desperate to play football, and has shown he's good enough to do it at League One/Two level (and against PL sides). Straight out on loan if the manager doesn't fancy him for regular minutes I expect. Cam Evans getting regular games for struggling Waterford. Scott Butler is also a very promising young centre half coming through. | | | |
