You might have had higher expectations for Plaid then they achieved, the leader of Plaid obviously would be positive in public, I expected them to do as per the last few polls and I expected both Labour and Tories to do well. |
Yes - Plaid at 20% was expected. Probably expected Labour to need the Plaid support...? 1 in 5 is not too shabby at all. 50% of Welsh Labour are also pro Indy. The YesCymru movement will be happy. ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ Abolish had a bad night ..... for reference 1.6% and 3.7%. Bye bye Abolish. [Post edited 9 May 2021 17:41]

They will realise when it's to late, probably in 5 years time when the dinosaur retires.

Once more for the biased, Adam Price says it was a bad night, that'll do for me. It was only 1 in 5 of those who voted so around 200,000 people which is actually less than 1 in 10 of the electorate. 50% of Welsh labour aren't pro indy, 51% of the 1000 or so they asked are and if they ruled out don't knows again that figure is vastly skewed and very wrong too. The indymob took a right kicking with the pro union parties getting 66% of the vote. Tha abolish lot had a very bad night considering the last yougov poll has them at 6% more than the indy support.

17.5m divided by 66.5%m for percentage of the population that voted for Brexit and that is in a 2 horse race, it's our system, you keep saying or implying that ever single election or referendum we have has no legitimacy.

They voted for Welsh Labour. Plaid voters voted for Indy. Thats about 60% of voters who voted pro Wales dev max/similar, or indy. Once Scotland leaves lets speak again. The direction of travel for Wales has never been clearer.

Did anyone really have a choice? You vote devo max / indy, the most right wing tory party in generations or even more extreme right wing minority parties. Thats it. Let's be fair, Drakefords devo max and delaying of lockdown release announcements was nothing more than electioneering. Partly to appeal to the under 18's. The only clear losers in election are the extreme right and anyone who wants independence. For some godforsaken reason the electorate like Boris and apparently Andrew RT. Certainly more than Plaid. It could be said that the direction of travel in Wales is to the right.

I watched one of the results programmes on a TV, the Tory MP stated it had been a disappointing night for his party and acknowledged there was a strong belief Drakers had done a tidy job, in the same way the vaccines had impacted on Boris appeal. The middle ground has been squeezed and the Lib Dem’s have been “wiped out” as have the UKIP types in all their guises / new identities, the Conservatives have gained as have Labour while Plaid Cymru’s have been unable to extend their appeal. We are effectively back to a 2 horse UK and a 3 party arrangement in Scotland and Wales.

I'm not implying no legitimacy I'm merely pointing out that when you post a generalisation like "the Welsh public back Labour" it's not accurate. Roughly 420,000 from an electorate of 2.3 million backed Labour, that is not "the Welsh public" merely a small chunk of it. As far as brexit goes, we all had a chance to vote and we had a much higher turnout than the Senedd election, if size of turnout was a marker for legitimacy then the brexit vote would be more legitimate than the Senedd elections. The brexit vote had a 72% turnout whereas the Senedd elction never breaks 50%.

You cannot lump two different sets of voters together to try and give some legitimacy to an indy party. More people voted Tory than voted for the indy party, that's gotta hurt. You say Wales never votes Tory but if that's true then it's also true that Wales never votes for "The party of Wales" either. But still, more people voted Tory than Plaid.
