Indeed. I think it’s only going to get worse, once the heat is on and stones are lifted the instinct for self preservation will kick in and others will turn on each other. It will be interesting to see what documentary evidence is disclosed. The stench of incompetence and corruption is overwhelming, we’ve not long had reports of a top civil servant resetting his phone and losing /deleting “What’s App” messages in relation to this Cameron lobbying business. We need a clear out, but it won’t come anytime soon.

| Sir Dominic of Barnard Castle on 12:20 - May 26 by JACKMANANDBOY | Just illustrates the lack on integrity and willingness to do the right thing, I would add immunological expertise to your list of gaps. |
Well I would not say that as an immunologist, but yes. The focus was very much on SPI-B and the modellers in SPI-M. It would not have taken a genius of a virologist/immunlogist to point out the differences between coronaviruses and orthomyxoviruses (flu) around which strategy was built nor that a theoretical level of herd immunity would mean an awful lot of sick people and, based on what happened in Italy, a lot of dead people. It also speaks volumes about Civil Service as much as Government, the lack of scientific expertise in Whitehall and Westminster and the complete focus on London/Oxbridge expertise. Blindingly stupid when that expertise on coronaviruses was in Bristol, Leeds and Liverpool. Civil Service still full of mediocre History graduates-that was certainly my experience in working with DfID

Just to add to that-most of the countries with low mortality rates had previously gone through he original SARS epidemic. They treated this as SARS not flu-more transmissible and with high mortality. People were sensible and followed as they were told. As did most here after the images from Italy.
| Sir Dominic of Barnard Castle on 13:17 - May 26 with 1146 views | Professor | And finally from me on this. If anyone says "Boris has done his best". That's not the point. If this is his best then it's not good enough as a leader of a rich country of 65 million people. Let Gove or Sunak take over. They would clearly be better. Edit: I meant to say this is not the egg and spoon race at the school sports day. It was crucial for our wellbeing and economy. [Post edited 26 May 2021 13:45]

Unfortunately as Cummings said we have a system that gives you a choice between Johnson and Corbyn . We have to look at the selection criteria for those looking to be elected. Corbyn and Johnson could both have been discounted with some sensible criteria around experience and competency in running large scale organisational systems and some behavioural criteria.

Bojo is the stopped clock, right twice a day. The people around him are the dregs, those who wouldn't disagree with him. Those who did disagree were simply ejected. Bojo wants to be loved, he can't stand criticism, I think he needs a therapist to be honest. That top civil servant, how many "accidents" and "honest mistakes" will we have to endure before these people and their huge incompetence is gone? Probably post apocalypse!

Scotland and Wales have devolved powers and haven’t covered themselves in glory - far from it, but they take their lead from Westminster who hold the purse strings and the bulk of the powers. One example was when The Dept of Health intervened and took the Roche tests from Cardiff. We’ve seen Westminster proposing to deny areas like Manchester funding when being placed in lockdown only to change position when it became a wider lockdown was required. I genuinely believe Drakers cares more about people than Boris, but I am not a fan of either. I have no idea what happened in Belgium or Spain apart from the fact they had high mortality rates. Apart from China who hushed everything up, Italy were the first country to really experience the Covid19 and by the time they knew what was happening it was too late - we should have learned from their experience and mistakes, What about learning from their countries who’ve done well, you haven’t suggested learning from the countries who’ve done well, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, South Korea and Taiwan. I think we all accept the fact mistakes were going to be made but there’s a big difference between genuine mistakes and incompetence, neglect, indifference not caring.

This is serious why are you not fighting for justice in Wales Scotland Belgium Italy and Spain. Perhaps it is your racist upbringing that you hate anything British while you turn a blind eye to the failings of Drakeford sturgeon and the EU. I thank the UK for having the best vaccination programme of any major country which is saving lives.

I am not left nor am I right, I don’t have a great deal of time for Boris, Foster, Drakers, Sturgeon or the likes of Cummings, but I will give credit when it’s due and will criticise when it’s deserved. People need to look at what’s happened objectively because we have been let down.

Agreed, and today won’t make any difference. Firstly, many see Cummings (understandably) as unreliable. Secondly, people accept that mistakes were made and today isn’t going to changes any minds. Finally and most importantly, the vaccine programme. Nobody can say it’s not been a huge success BUT this is the Tory answer to everything now same as it has been with Brexit, shutting down all challenge.

That is spot on Prof, I reckon Bojo has done his best but his best is sorely lacking and, in common with most of his cabinet, he's completely unsuitable for such an important post. Of them all only Sunak seems reliable, sensible and clever enough to do the job.

I watched some of it and what struck me was Cummings changing his story about Durham. Now he's claiming it was for his family's security after they got death threats...it beggars belief. Honestly, does anyone believe him? If he was getting such threats his then boss could and would have done something about it. Even so, the threats must have mysteriously stopped, or been dealt with because he went back home quite quickly. There should be no need to lie to get at Bojo, surely the trutj will be enough but if Cummings and Bojo have something in common it'd be not knowing the truth if it bit them on the gluteus maximus.

| Sir Dominic of Barnard Castle on 18:54 - May 26 with 876 views | majorraglan | Looking at things, it’s clear Cummings has an axe to grind, but I suspect there is a considerable mileage in some of the issues Cummings has raised. The fact we haven’t had flight restrictions etc, the comments re bodies pilling high has been verified by “insiders” to a number of journalists. We will see as they plays out. | | | |

I believe Cummings entirely. He has all the evidence to back it up. He showed it today and gave further examples when asked. His boss was the clown Boris Johnson. No help. More interested in his new girlfriend, his new book, his new flat, and awarding covid contracts to his mates than listening to Cummings clear and repeated warnings. Cummings walked, not fired. You better start believing the truth because its now out there, Hancock will go first. How can you continue to defend this entitled monster of a man ?
