Yes one of the unintended consequences of the Welsh government doubling Council tax on second homes is that people have now registered a second property they own as a business, if it is available to rent for more than 40 weeks in a year. The local councils get zero council tax while HMRC get 20% of any profits earned by a business. | |

It is not a loophole it is UK law . You cannot just call it a business. The rating valuation officer will ask for accounts going back 3 three years before it can re rated as a business.
He will compare it with other similar business before allocating a business rating valuation.
Will be interesting to see business owners taking the Welsh government to the high court for breaking UK law .
