Gotta feel sorry for Russell Martin 18:57 - Aug 20 with 7978 viewsmagicdaps10

Cabango and Downes out with covid along with Bennett and Naughton.

Having a challenging time early on and atleast deserves our support and backing.

Any idiots who see it as an opportunity to have a dig can do one in my eyes.

I think we’re ignoring a third group here, the reactionaries. I assumed they were the people the OP was aimed at. Just look at the Sheffield match day thread. I’m sure the Blackburn one has similar posts. If I wanted to look back through threads between then and Friday, I’m sure I’d find more.

I haven’t agreed with his team selections. I’d have been starting Piroe (assume I said that before Friday?). Like the conversation we had a few weeks ago though, I’m sure I followed that up with something along the lines of having faith in him as we are only a couple of weeks into the season. One line in isolation can often look very misleading when the context of the post is stripped away.

‘We got a chance against Plymouth’, ‘This is truly worrying and I’m afraid Russ ain’t for me, right now anyway’ ‘at this rate Martin will be gone by Christmas’ ‘we are being taken for fools by the owners, chairman and now manager’. Are all comments on one thread. I haven’t looked back at the ‘is the tide turning against Martin already’ thread, but seeing as it’s 5 pages long, I’d imagine it contains s similar.

Appreciate the irony of doing that after my previous paragraph, but none were caveated in any way. Tunes changed a bit after the Bristol City game. I assumed that type of comment was what the OP was referring to.

Edit - and I’m editing this post as well just to reinforce a point I made earlier, if we beat Preston in an error strewn, heart in the mouth, end to end exciting game, people will gloss over the mistakes and think we’re the nuts. That will be just as reactionary and silly as writing us off by mid August.

I'm afraid not.

He clearly singled out myself, chief and others who were giving their views on Wednesday. That would be regarding changing to a more pragmatic system until we have the squad capable of playing it... which of course transpired to be correct considering that's exactly what we did.

People often add caveats for the very reason that they don't get taken out of context. The only difference between the comments you are referring to and your own was that theirs came with a statement that their comments didn't mean they were against the manager where as yours were left up to interpretation.

I mean, just to take one of your examples there ‘at this rate Martin will be gone by Christmas’.

You also said ''if we carry on playing like Tuesday, he will eventually get sacked''. That's a direct quote. But of course, its a common sense stance and not in any way an attack on the manager or advocating him to get sacked.

This thread is designed very vaguely intentionally to ensnare people to agreeing without fully understanding what the OP is referring to.

He then takes all those people that have agreed and uses them to pretend they agree that sensible and quite correct comments were uncalled for.

I think the last thing this troll needs it yet another person taking his bait.

Can you give me the link to that quote from me? Not disputing I said it, but interested in what I said before and/or after it.

If the quote I’ve just taken from the match day thread said ‘at this rate Martin will be gone by Christmas’ but then gone on to say they were confident we wouldn’t carry on at this rate as either he is being backed to bring suitable players in, or they expected he’d vary his tactics if we kept losing, I would have viewed it as a sensible opinion and wouldn’t have highlighted it. The four quotes I’ve used there were in no way altered by the rest of their respective posts.

I think you replied before I edited my posts, but I’m not sticking up for the OP. Win a couple on the bounce and then gubbed 4-0 because we play just as well but every loose pass at the back gets punished and we’ll have this type of thread in reverse.

yes that's logical, but why then wouldn't the OP just point this out when people like myself replied (stating that I'd asked for a slight change in style which in my opinion isn't a dig) - none of those quotes are mine. So the OP could simply have said, sorry this wasn't directed at you. But they didn't, they went on the defensive and later on explicitly stated, naming myself as 'wrong'. They can't state how am I wrong, but there we are.

As I've stated in another thread this was an exercise to goad DrP into a scrap &I was inadvertently dragged in because I also stated a similar tactical outlook to them earlier in the week.

A an outlook which as it happens was utilised by the team v Bristol City.

That’s fair enough.

If the OP was intended as a personal dig to draw Dr P into a argument then it’s childish. If you’ve got embroiled in it and he’s said you’re wrong regarding something you didn’t say, then that’s his lookout.

I’ve obviously got confused over the original intention. I think the OP has inadvertently managed to make a fair point to some of the reactionaries on here, even if he didn’t mean to.

I wouldn't know which thread to look in to give you a link, but there was no immediate caveat, you said you think he will be given longer than Bradley, will get sacked eventually if we continue playing this way but would only be sacked if in relegation danger. Again paraphrasing.

But the point remains, what you said was factual or at least incredibly likely. It is not in any way shape or form an attack on the manager was it?

It is these comments, along with suggesting we change to the sort of style we changed to against Bristol that he is referring to.

Yes and that's why he's got so many up arrows. That orriginal post in theory, in its literal sense is great. Who wouldn't feel sorry for Martin after learning that whole defence is unavailable.

But notice the OPs next (unprompted) post on this thread and then goes to Martin's tactics and targeting the naysayers against that. Which to me was an obvious attempt at incitement following failure to achieve it via the more innocuous original post.

You said it was a direct quote though?

That’s not an attack on the manager no. Nor would ‘at this rate he will be sacked by Christmas’ (with no implication he sees anything changing) be if it had any context regarding how long he had been in the job, likelihood of him either being backed with transfers or varying tactics. It would be a similar quote to what I had probably said.

If he’s referring to that type of quote, then he’s an idiot. If he’s referring to ‘we’ve been taken for fools by the owners, chairman and now manager’ then he’s right to call it out.

Yes that is directly what you said, there may be an irrelevant connecting word missing in there, but I remember the sentence and the paragraph and what it was saying. It said you believe he will be given longer than Bradley and will only be given the boot if and when we were in relegation danger.

Wouldn't something along the lines of stating that you dont think it will happen if he is backed one of those caveats you are referring to though? You are essentially saying if we continue playing like this then he will be sacked, but dont think we will and you arent having a go at the manager...

But alas, its by the by, he is referring to the comments described that we indeed shouldn't continue to play recklessly until we have players here capable of doing it and taking posts like yours as advocating that notion.

I thought I would point it out as the same posts he is referring to are the same ones you have either said yourself or agreed with. They were all sensible and measured and not suggesting for a moment that they weren't.... thats the issue in a nutshell.

Yeah that’s fine. I’ve said further up the thread I may have misjudged his target audience.

Second paragraph, yes that’s exactly what I’m saying. I even said I expected a bumpy start to the season before it kicked off. The fact I didn’t think we would keep playing like that (and I mean that disjointedly with players who were all getting used to a new way of playing, some of whom probably wouldn’t be starting many games once Martin brought his players in) is a big difference between what you’re telling me I said and the quote I referenced.

I do remember saying that no matter how bad it was, he would get more games than Bradley because it’s much earlier in the season, so no imminent relegation danger. I also remember saying I had much more faith in Martin than I ever had in Bradley.

MD10 - can you just clarify this please? Were you referring to the kind of post that said a decent few of the players we started the season with weren’t suited to the football Martin plays. No response and I’ll just assume you were.

Glad you were able to put 2&2 together there mate and seen the posts with just a brief look.

You clearly seen the posts, being asked to prove myself to paranoia and then be told I am wrong is mind numbing...... It becomes a battle of right and wrong and as this board has seen over the years a post of opinion becomes inevitably that... One where someone is right and others wrong.

All pretty sad.

Absolutely. That's never been in dispute.

But you went further, to criticise people who'd simply commented&suggested different tactical changes in your imbecile post didn't you? A post by the way completely different to your original post regarding injuries.

So nice try. But you can't wriggle out of this that easily. Jack 247 it seems can see through your game too.
