CLUB STATEMENT: Maidstone.

Statement following yesterday’s match versus Concord Rangers.

Club chief executive Bill Williams said: “I am aware of allegations on Twitter by the Concord Rangers goalkeeper that racist comments were directed at him. We are sorry and dismayed to read this.

“Let me be crystal clear — racism has no place in our game and in our society as a whole.

“If we are able to identify the culprit or culprits and I believe we’re only talking about one or two amongst a crowd of 2,000 — they will be dealt with in the strongest possible terms.

“If it was you and we’re not able to find you, let me say here and now: you’re not welcome at our ground ever again.

“If I can make one plea at this time — if anyone hears or sees anything untoward at matches, be you a player, official or supporter, please report it at that time. I fear the failure to do so on this occasion and leave it to social media a couple of hours later, will let those individuals off the hook and that is almost as sad as the incident itself.”

Concord Rangers said on Twitter: “Racism has no place in our game. Nobody should ever in any walk of life be subjected to racist abuse. Not today not tomorrow not any day.”

Clubs including Hemel Hempstead and Chippenham posted messages of support to Myles Roberts while Concord assistant boss Danny Green — the former Charlton winger — said: “On a sour note, our young goalkeeper received racist abuse this afternoon. A young man learning his trade on loan from a Premier League team, I’m absolutely gutted that this has happened.

“We will support him and stand with him every step of the way.”

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Since when is Welsh a different race to English, serious question. Go back a couple of generations, you'd probably be in for a shock, go back 500yrs like I have and its a real eye opener.
Xenophobic certainly, racist, nah not in the slightest.

There was racial abuse of the Irish in days gone by and the Welsh are of a similar gene pool of the Celtic branch of the Indo European Group.

https://www.theguardian.com/po

Obviously over the centenaries English and European people have entered the gene pool. Wales, however to the disgust of some, has its own characteristic religious and cultural features and a level of self government with a parliament and flag.

English football fans selectively and preferentially target Welsh people for racial slurs on the basis of us being Welsh. For no other reason. They are doing this to register their belief of English Race Superiority. They do this to Blacks for the same purpose. It is offensive in both cases.

Sheep abuse has been taken to court and a person convicted of "racially aggravated disorderly conduct". It is not seen as bad as 'Anti Black' or 'anti jewish' hate crimes but is clearly in the same of group of crimes.

Fans simply have no where to go other than deny the existence of the Welsh people and laugh off racial slurs as harmless fun. That is their choice. I think it is outdated and frankly cowardly in 2021.

At the same time the same people claim to be 'zero tolerant' to racism and demand'serious punishment for 14 year old poorly educated children who may have conceivably posted similar sheep abuse/banter onto a Asian playing for a Welsh team. it seems of that only Dhanda has had anti Asian abuse. Was it because he was playing for a Welsh team?

So you’re abuser spotted your red hair, thought to himself “there’s an indigenous Welsh person, I’m going to use a racial slur’?

When sheep songs are sung in a stadium, is it only red haired people who should be offended.

Is it possible to have Welsh as your nationality and not be racially welsh?

A large percentage of so called Welsh people descend from English stock
Go back just over 200 years ago and there was hardly anyone living in the South Wales valleys , and with the discovery of coal, many English people moved into the valleys. So without doubt most of the inhabitants of the valleys are indeed the descendants of the English

My family previous to my birth, the Irish settlements in Pembrokeshire which not only have influenced local architecture and politics in the 17th century’s but the dialect which if anyone from there knows is more Irish than Welsh.

I will add my grandfather and other family members being British army servicemen prior to coming to Wales. I’m talking Southern Ireland not the north.

Post it up, mate. I’d be interested in that as the percentage you cited seems on the face of it way too high for South Wales as a whole?

So far as I’m aware there were three main centres for Irish migration with the advent of industry: Cardiff, Merthyr and Port Talbot. Outside of that I’d have thought figures would have been far more sparse?

It’s a stab in the dark, but I seem to recall over a thousand Italian cafes in South Wales in the 60’s.
Enzo Maccarinelli, Joe Calzaghe, oops David D'Auria.
Rugby ? Peter Sidoli, could chuck a ball.

My abuser spotted I was exiting the Merthyr end, (in this case) and assumed rightly I was Welsh (Celtic heritage) along with several other fans including women and young children. He abused me and others (including young children) on the basis of being Welsh not having defining Celtic features.

DNA analysis shows that English people have high levels of Celtic genes (They call it Irish Scottish Welsh). However English white people identify themselves (often wrongly) as genetically Anglo Saxon but regard the Welsh language as a foreign tongue.

This a largely irrelevant. There is a decent argument to say that Welsh people differ from English people to a varying degree on DNA genes, culturally, politically and socially. The abuser clearly believes there is a difference. His model for abusing Welsh fans is something you can ask him about. (do not expect a lot of sense). He may explin to you he considers himself to be genetically superior. (EDL logic)

I do not know what 'racially Welsh' means. I call it Celtic or Ancient Briton. Welsh is a political entity where a high proportion of the population has Celtic heritage. When I am snarled at by an Englishman it is because I am ethnically 'predominantly of Celtic heritage'. I perhaps more than others, feel this belonging. The fact that people from the valleys (Immigrants who now associate them selves with being Welsh) do not empathise with the disgust I feel is neither here or there. They get tagged in as well.

Its racist as it targets all Welsh teams and all Welsh team's fans irrespective of hair colour freckles or being Welsh speakers. Anti Jewish chants and aggressive behaviour is not limited to to people will defining facial features or dress.

Even if I followed your dubious argument would it be right for Swansea fans to join in the English racist "banter" at the expense of their own neighbours and Welsh speaking fans?

My argument is that Swansea city as a club and many of fans claiming "zero tolerance" are turning a blind eye to regular racial slurs at the Swansea.com stadium, so ingrained over the decades that it is not even recognised. Namely sheep shagging chants and face to face abuse.

They want to string up a 14 year old kid in Dartford on one hand for an unwise racial tweet on one hand and give a free reign to thugs racially abusing welsh fans and their children with deeply offensive terms on the other.

What was actually said to Dhanda could be quite enlightening. Did it include bestially accusations? The 14 year old child might have thought abusing a Swansea player playing for a Welsh team in Wales was fair game? These subtleties are lost on a young lad.

Repeat after me , Wales isn't a specific race as much as you want it to be. The individual who abused you sounds like an unpleasant person who went for the generic Welsh insult, (could also be applied to someone from East Anglia, Cornwall, Somerset etc), this is xenophobia as its based on where you live rather than anything else.

Wales is a unitary state with it own flag parliament with limited self rule, language and culture. You may not like it but it is a fact. We are presumably both identified a Welsh. I am red headed and had freckles as a boy. I have racial Celtic identifiers. You perhaps do not. We share a homeland as brothers. Dhanda like me does not like being racially abused. Cabango like you brushes it off as part of life.

If I am falsely called a bestial person linked to my heritage I do not like it especially in the presence of women and children. Any Welshman that thinks its fun needs his head examined. If this insult is delivered with hate and aggression to family and friends i call on the Welsh constabulary to prosecute for racially aggravated crimes. They have already had prosecution when they faced it directly from a 'smack head' and basically had no alternative.

They do not do this and instead leave the racialist (possibly EDL related) thugs alone and go after 14 year old children playing on the internet. This kid has been led astray and needs putting back on the right path. I question their MO. Wales in not Somerset or East Anglia. We are not of the same ethnic group (on average). Zero tolerance means exactly that. 'Sheep shagger' slurs are included if the club and the clubs fans are serious. Otherwise do not talk of zero tolerance. its fake. This is my argument. Short of digging a few of them up I’m stuffed then.

But I have been sent this.

The failure of the potato crop in successive years took away the staple food that sustained millions of poor people. About a million refugees fled the country at this time. Tens of thousands of these unfortunates arrived at the ports of South Wales after travelling as ballast in the holds of coal ships that returned with a human cargo from Irish ports. Many of these refugees were themselves diseased and starving, and they endured appalling conditions in these sailing ships. Journeys took days or even weeks when the weather was bad and some refugees died on board ship or succumbed shortly after landing. These were harrowing times when fearful migrants encountered an anxious and sometimes hostile population at their destination. As one commentator at Cardiff put it, the destitute newcomers arrived with nothing more than “pestilence on their backs, famine in their stomachs”. Officials in the ports did their best to deter the refugees from landing rather than welcome them. In a vain attempt to stem the flow of people, they prosecuted ship captains for carrying too many passengers.

And this -
In the year 360, a sudden series of coordinated raids by the Irish, Anglo-Saxons and Picts began. These continued as the Irish colonised the old Wales coasts. This resulted in a short period lasting until the 5th century during which Old Irish was spoken in the region: twenty stones dated to this period have ogham inscriptions.

The law is not on your side. Calling people 'Welsh Sheepshagger' is illegal and classed as racially related in the courts whether you agree with it or not. From what have read there is great reluctance to prosecute. Prosecutions are limited to abuse of Police and security staff (in Neath and Prestatyn). This will change in time no doubt.
