| Angela Rayner on 11:13 - Sep 28 by raynor94 | What supermarket are you shopping in that has empty shelves in Swansea? And as you well know there is no petrol shortage, the current situation has been caused by greedy selfish drivers, and will settle in the next couple of days when they have had their fill. |
That's not the entire story. The transport sec has said Brexit has been a factor too

| Angela Rayner on 10:12 - Sep 28 by Catullus | I must be lucky then because I haven't had any problems with our usual food shop. Hang on though, there is plenty of petrol just not enough drivers, it's the same with food, plenty of it at the hubs just not enough drivers, a problem throughout Europe. Imagine how big the driver shortage in Europe would be if we'd stayed in the EU and had tens of thousands of EU drivers coming here? PS, isn't it the voters who are responsible for brexit? It was Tories Cameron and Osborne who tried to convince us to vote remain, lots of Labour voters chose leave too. Corbyn sat on the fence though. |
No it was Johnson, Farage, and Gove. You are the Tory conmans dream voter. We are going to hell in a handcart, but its defo not related to Brexit. How will we fix things ? Answer : get more European drivers in - which , you know, sort of confirms its a Brexit issue.

So how come all of Europe are suffering from HGV driver shortages?

The reality is that there are a number of reasons throughout Europe and here causing the issue. Covid preventing testing / registration / causing drivers to return to home counties and the long term bad pay and conditions issues meaning some of those drivers have now found something better to do with their time. The impact of Brexit is just an additional cause here but it is making it more difficult than it would have been to solve (partly) the immediate issue we have. Hence the government now removing restrictions on drivers. They’ll soon realise that the ‘stay til Christmas Eve to deliver our turkeys and then sod off and spend Christmas in a holding queue for the tunnel or ferry’ probably won’t work (imagine the surprise) so will have to bring in something more sustainable, As it will with many other jobs. They have to think again about visas and who we actually need here. People here for whatever reason won’t do some of the jobs that need doing. Driving, agriculture etc. Just massively increasing wages will not solve the issue. It will lead to spiralling inflation and food and energy poverty. This government don’t have a clue economically.

Just let us know when labour is ready to put up some opposition again after their disaster of a party conference with Corbyn still trying to drive labour to the extreme left. Seems he had more support than Starmer.

Makes you wonder what Corbyn is doing at the labour party conference. Has been reinstated as a labour party member yet?

Exactly, Johnson and his party are the ones in power, where does the buck stop, or do we blame the party that isn't in power?

Long overdue, but she shouldn’t have uttered the words in the first place. There’s plenty of ways to make a pint without using words like scum.

Doing so requires skills she does not possess. How can she expect the British public to vote her party, of which she is one heartbeat away from leading, into power when she has proven to possess such disdain for the 13,966,451 of them. I feel great sympathy for Sir Keir.
