The bus driver must have seen that there were pedestrians on the crossing, just because the lights were on green doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t have stopped to avoid them. Careless driving, bordering on dangerous driving in my opinion.

Spot on Lifey.

The lights were clearly on green for traffic, the amount of jaywalking is unbelievable these days, people just expect traffic to stop.

The driver does nothing wrong

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

Other vehicles had stopped there were a lot of people in the road, bus driver didn't show any caution what's so ever, lights changed as he went through.

Cause the lights were green doesn't give the driver the right to just drive through people in the road, pedestrians have to be responsible of course, the driver should have approached with caution and stopped on that occasion as people were still in the road.

He should have stopped and then leaned on his horn. He's probably not allowed to give them a mouthful though, even if they deserved it.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

He could have shouted beeped his horn of course, the main thing for me was there was people in the road as he approached and should have stopped, not saying they were wrong to be in the rd, but how many times have we all done similar when others are crossing.

Shocking driving! Yes, they should not be walking across, but I can see exactly what he did there, tried to bully them all out of the way, but unfortunate for him, the last one was too slow, crumbs you can even some of them running. IMO that's dangerous driving based on that footage.

Edit, You can even see him slowing, before he hits the girl, only a few times watched it, but for me his focus is on the two young boys who run out of the way, he braked briefly when they were near, and he was focused on them, just bullying, I get frustrated when people walk out, when it's my right of way, but you just can't do that.

Come on Max, the lights were clearly green for traffic, if I'd been the driver with the dash cam, I'd have blasted my horn and cleared them.

Pedestrians at fault, you just can't walk out when the red light is on.

If any of the pedestrians complained I'd fine them for jaywalking

If every driver took the attitude of the bus driver, there would be chaos..

Warnings regards discussions so there is a fair trial ( for the defendant and the best interests of the person crossing the road )

What you on about warnings regarding discussions,, the bus driver drove aggressively towards many young people crossing the road.

Bus driver should be sacked with immediate effect.
Can't have bus drivers speeding through lights with no disregard for public safety.
The lights were orange before he went through and caution should have been used.
Thankfully there is not a family grieving their loss because some driver wanted to be two minutes further into his route.
When driving you must be prepared for all eventualities and that was just shambolic disregard for life.

IMO some posters on here need to revisit the Highway code, not a bad idea in fact for all us older drivers

Rule 195 in the Highway Code states Pelican crossings. These are signal-controlled crossings where flashing amber follows the red ‘Stop’ light. You MUST stop when the red light shows. When the amber light is flashing, you MUST give way to any pedestrians on the crossing. If the amber light is flashing and there are no pedestrians on the crossing, you may proceed with caution.

Highway Code Rule 198
Give way to anyone still crossing after the signal for vehicles has changed to green. This advice applies to all crossings.

Highway Code Rule 199
Toucan, puffin and equestrian crossings. These are similar to pelican crossings, but there is no flashing amber phase; the light sequence for traffic at these three crossings is the same as at traffic lights. If the signal-controlled crossing is not working, proceed with extreme caution

PS there is no such thing as jay walking in this country .

The pedestrians were stupid but there's only one person to blame here.

It's bus driver fault end off I've done my heavy goods and hazard perception etc wouldn't have mattered if the lights where red for pedestrians he and any driver has a duty of care towards pedestrians

Pedestrians can be right arseholes as can driver's but it's still your responsibility as soon as you turn that key

That’s ridiculous. What other view could the driver have had ? If he couldn’t see for whatever reason, he should have stopped the bus.

You are so blinkered, so stupid you can’t even take on board the opinion of a qualified barrister.

OK I've changed it.

You can’t really defend the driver - steel beats flesh every time , especially when there’s a good few Tons of it) .

However the lights are part of a sulystem designed to ensure the safety of pedestrians. I see a lot of people crossing the road recklessly and the biggest culprits are either people texting whilst crossing the street or with headphones on oblivious to almost everything.

Another point - electric vehicles are so quiet these days that I suppose it wouldn’t matter if you had headphones on or not! People have to take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY of their own safety when crossing the road. Stop ,Look (even if you don’t listen).

Maybe the answer in that particular place is to have a zebra crossing there? It’s not a junction so lights are a bit of an irrelevance. That way drivers would be more focussed on the crossing itself rather than the lights maybe??

You see the same thing every home game crossing the rd from Rossi's to the stadium, any vehicle could have a decent game of human skittles if they had a mind to, but they stop when there are people in the rd regardless the colour of the lights.

Good, lucky escape for him, for that kind of driving 3-6 months would be sensible.
