| Migrants getting in to the U.K. more than ever before ? on 16:23 - Nov 29 by Catullus | The claim about France getting twice as many refugee/asylum claims, it can be factually correct but France is over 247000 KM square, the UK is less than 94000KM square, they are 2.5 times our size. France has 122 people per square KM but the UK is over twice as densely populated at 260 per KM2. France has much more room than us, we have more people than them in a smaller country so they can take more. Amnesty claims they are all refugees, I don't believe ALL of them are. A large chunk are economic migrants. Amnesty has a vested interest in saying they ALL are. Still it's hard to complain about people from the middle East heading West when it was Western armies that shagged their countries up. Look at Afghanistan, we went in like a crazed bull, we bombed anything that moved, we made very generous promises then we pulled out and left them to the Taliban Awful. |
Despite France being bigger we still have over 3 million more foreign born nationals living in the uk than France have living over there. So this notion that we aren’t as welcoming or we don’t do our bit for foreign folks is just nonsense.

| Migrants getting in to the U.K. more than ever before ? on 17:11 - Nov 29 by controversial_jack | During an initial six-month period, individuals applying for asylum in Spain are housed in shared accommodation. Here, they receive food and a monthly allowance of roughly €50. An additional €19 is provided for each child. Expenses such as public transport, medical treatment, language courses and the use of translators are reimbursed if an invoice is provided. In a subsequent six-month period, applicants move into private accommodation and the Spanish state covers their rent. In addition, applicants get a monthly allowance of between €300 and €500, depending on marital status. In a third and final six-month phase, applicants are allowed to work. They only receive social benefits in absolute emergencies. As the topic is about migrants, I thought it was relevant. If not then I won't comment again. |
Your comments may well be accurate for ASYLUM SEEKERS although amnesty international are extremely questionable. I think you need to go to the start of the conversation when I made a basic comment on the benefit system, and the conversation was about the benefit system not asylum seekers, who will be with very differently to people who just turn up here and ask for housing, benefits and free everything. There’s no reason why you should stop commenting, just room for a little bit more thought in an attempt to win some form of argument by twisting the details. Or maybe you just misunderstood, as I said I couldn’t care. I repeat. There is no benefits system in Spain for non spanish people.

| Migrants getting in to the U.K. more than ever before ? on 09:44 - Nov 29 by Catullus | Funny because the French seem to think the UK is just too darn attractive to migrants, economically speaking. Taken from the Express, "French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said that Britain must be "responsible" by making the country less attractive for migrants. He said: "Britain must take its responsibility and limit its economic attractiveness. "Britain left Europe, but not the world. We need to work seriously on these questions, without being held hostage by domestic British politics." Apart from him being wrong, we didn't leave Europe, we left the EU and we did so because we could be more attractive a proposition. Again, they signed a deal with us they knew they couldn't keep to under their own laws. It's all BS. If 30% of them are economic migrants then come here legally and apply for the right permissions. Of course they can't because of the immigration rules so they risk their lives and it ends up with deaths, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/wor The father stayed behind because he didn't want to lose his job as a policeman and now his family may well be dead. How many more tragedies do we need? Does anyone have a clue what the answer is because I haven't. We can't keep letting people die, neither can we keep having thousands of immigrants/refugees coming here illegally. We have to do something but t has to be right AND fair. I can and will criticise the government but honestly, I'm blooming glad it's not my decision. |
Your last sentence and the paragraph were a big conversation between myself and one of my besties who is actually part of senior part of the Home Office that deall with policy and therefore the decisions. He was getting frustrated with my "Swansea Independent" attitude on how to deal with the issue. I really wouldn't swap my job for his.
