| Nationality and Borders Bill 18:26 - Dec 11 with 2941 views | Catullus | We haven't heard very much about clause 9 of this Priti Patel bill but we should. It's a shocking, devious and underhand bit of politics. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ There's a petition linked in the story. Everybody should sign it. | |

I have no issue with regards to introducing legislation which will remove the citizenship of people who’ve acquired British citizenship if they are “wrong uns” and have committed criminal offences here and their presence isn’t conducive to the public good. I am thinking about drug dealers, sex offenders etc etc other countries do something like that, but what you can’t have is some kind of secret process where people have don’t have any knowledge about the proceedings and don't have any rights etc. That’s just a kangaroo Court and open to all sorts of abuse.

At least it is a democratically elected government unlike the undemocratic EU which imposed its rules on us without any of its 27 rule makers, the EU Commissioners, ever being elected. I am in favour of a democratically elected government rather than that the EU. The wise people of the UK voted to leave the EU please accept this democratic result. We have the checks and balances in place as can be seen by the witchunt currently being run by the left wing media and the BBC.

Not just this. It’s the capacity being made to criminalise protest, making access to a judicial review near impossible and allowing government to set aside judicial review. You have a government driving these things forward with a pliant Tory party until you have to wear a mask or produce a vaccine certificate (which the rest of Europe seems to cope with) which is then akin to Nazi Germany. And no it’s not democratic on FPTP, though the EU referendum was and we live by that

Not sure about right wing simply wingless As regards the Police ,we are seeing uprecedented toleration of crime where victims are treated like trailer trash on the altar of political correctness. We need Police FORCES to fight crime and criminals led by Police Officers not graduate Clowns in Cloverleafs looking to tout themselves for another high paid job when they retire.

Absolutely nobody should be the victim of Judge, Jury and executioner without even knowing proceedings are happening. Closed courts, secret judgements, these are the tools of a dictatorship and should have no place in any democracy.

When we are struggling to deport murderers, rapists, drug dealers and many others that have entered the UK illegally, you really think that we are going to deport an NHS doctor that has been here since a child ? This is headline shyte for the left and naive.

I was talking about the Bill itself and the powers it would give the government. If you want to talk about "would we deport" then just look at the people we have deported. People who have served in our armed forces to start with.

When was the Windrush deportations ? Only 17 Jamaicans, reasons ? Afghan refugees, reasons ? Judges, courts and tribunals should be deciding whether immigrants have a right to remain under British law, who would you suggest ?

There have been other deportations but they really aren't the point. The point is we shouldn't, in a modern, functioning democracy, be passing a bill that gives government the power to make legal decisions about people and inflict a punishment on them without the 'defendants' knowledge. Justice should be open and above board, not done in secret courts. That is totalitarianism, it's how China and North Korea operate. If you allow them to open Pandora's box don't be surprised when more poison seeps out.

But it is the point, the present deportation system isn't fit for purpose, and is being exploited by criminals and money making human right lawyers.

No, it really isn’t. A lot of the cases are simply people being put on a plane without access to legal advice, people who may have been arrested, but not charged or convicted, or maybe convicted of minor offences. Others have been wrongly identified and put on a plane. Patel plays to the far right. They’ve been turning against anyone who opposes them for some time, gradually removing opposition, be it the Supreme Court (wanting to give ministers the right to ignore decision of the court they disagree with) , removing peoples nationality, cracking down on the right to protest, turning boats around in the channel, threatening the RNLI with being criminalised It’s very scary [Post edited 14 Dec 2021 21:11]

What would you call a lot of people Sirjohn, and how much do we pay for this legal advice they are not getting ?

Human Rights isn’t my area, so I’m not sure how it’s funded. Let’s say it is legally aided which means the fees would be low. Isn’t it worth it if someone is being illegally deported against international law, possibly being sent back to die ? As far as how much are we paying for those who don’t get the advice ? Well, it’s nothing as they didn’t have a lawyer. The only reason they don’t like it is because they know they’re breaking the law and they know it There’s no ‘spurious actions’ as if there were they’d be struck out. The myth about someone not being deported because they have a cat eg, is a complete lie. Simply did not happen. They’re also going after the Human Rights Act, which is dangerous for all of us. Patel is an appalling person. Any government which attacks lawyers should make the public very wary.

Most of the criminals we need to deport have been found guilty in jury trials. If they are not British citizens and are convicted of serious crimes they should be deported once they have finished their sentence. Victims and the safety of the public should be put first not the criminals.

From what I can see the legal costs amount to over £30 million.
