| Leave EU we'll have cheaper fuel bills on 13:07 - Jan 21 by Catullus | That's back to front, we are buying from the USA because the Russians are antagonising Europe and NATO. They are holding back gas supplies which has triggered a price rise. If Russia allowed the agreed amounts of gas through we wouldn't have price rises as high as they are and we wouldn't be buying from elsewhere as much as we are. |
Back in February last year, when LNG prices were higher in Japan and South Korea than in Europe, most US cargoes went to Asia. Now it is Europe that is the bigger draw. Over the past week, US LNG imports into Europe have averaged more than 250 million cubic metres per day, their highest level on record and equivalent to about 80% of total US LNG export capacity.

If the UK is buying more LNG from the USA it is because of Russia witholding gas from Europe and higher demand in Asia. So what point are you trying to make? It's nothing to do with cosying up to the USA, it's because of our need due to Russian aggression. Though possibly you'll deny that.

Russia is commissioning pipelines to go all over Europe and Asia. they want to sell as much as they can. We are buying expensive LNG from the US, because we don't really get a lot of natural gas from Russia, but other countries in Europe do. This is why we are having high prices, because imported LNG is much more expensive than gas from pipelines. What Russian aggression?

What Russian aggression? Seriously? The withholding of Gas from Europe and the build up of troops on the Ukrainian border after already illegally annexing the Crimea. Gas prices are up at least partly because of Russia's behaviour. The UK only buys 5% of its supply from them but we buy from other people who have bought from them too, like Belgium.

https://www.independent.co.uk/ There have been big concerns about Russian gas supplies and the West becoming too relaint on them. It's partly why Nord stream 2 has been delayed.

LNG by it's very nature is more expensive than natural gas. So is LPG. It then has to be transported across 2000 miles of ocean, offloaded, stored and rewarmed before going into the mains. It's the same with LNG from Quatar, we get lot's from there and it's far more expensive

The Ukranian govt is not a legit one. The legit one was overthrown by a coup with the backing of the US. The current govt is an extreme right wing one. Russia moved to secure the warm water port in the Crimea as they were concerned what may happen with the Ukranian govt A build up of troops , would that be like South Korean and American troops holding regular maneuvers on the N Korean border? Does it only raise concern when it's those big bad reds Seems like double standards to me

So you don't have any actual values. Not quite, it depends on how much it takes to obtain it and US Fracked Gas is the cheapest, which leaves room for the Liquifying process.

I don't have the actual prices you are correct, do you? The general consensus is that LNG is between 30 to 50% more expensive then Russian gas

Unfortunately I haven't seen the general concesus. The only data that I can find are actual prices. We have this for LNG https://www.statista.com/stati And this for Nat Gas https://www.statista.com/stati Unfortunately gas is in Megawatts and LNG in BTUs I think the coversion is 0.029 Megawatts in a BTU which would make US LNG = $85.7, which is a lot more than 50% more than the price of Nat Gas.

We also have to take into account the handling and storage of LNG. It has to be stored, transferred to ships, liquified, transferred 2000 miles, offloaded, stored , warmed up to become a gas again. Whereas in pipeline it's cleaned up a bit and just transferred. Pipelines are expensive to construct, but when they are commissioned that's basically it We also don't know the qualities and properties on the gasses. They are mostly methane, with propane, butane etc. Gasses that contain butane for example are more heat efficient than methane.

The US and South Korean troops have been on the border there for decades because they have been worried about North Korean incursions. The US troops are there by invitation of the South Korean government, they are not an invading force nor a threat to North Korea. Ukraine is an independent sovereign state. The coup against Victor Yanukovych happened because he turned his back on an agreement with the EU and sidled up to Russia instead, the people didn't like this and removed his government in what was dubbed "The revolution of dignity" Russia's build up of troops isn't invited by the Ukraine and it seems there has been an accusation of a Russian plot to force another coup. It's not double standards, there is a big difference between friendly troops there to help protect your country and an invasion by aggressive foreign forces. Why do you and Trampie keep on defending Russia?

S Korean and US troops often engage in maneuvers along the border. They may be there by S korean invitation but not by the North The legit govt of Ukraine was overthrown, whichever way you want to spin it They are not friendly troops as far as N K is concerned. Why would the South need the Norths permission to hold military manoeuvres in their own country? Unless they invade NK they have done nothing wrong. The people of Ukraine were not happy with their government and got rid of it. Seeing as there have been no complaints from within Ukraine about this it would seem the Ukrainians prefer their current government, that is why Putin is upset, he doesn't want Ukraine joining the EU or NATO. The US troops are there because the South is worried about the NK armed forces. North Korea is considered a rogue state, they were even caught kidnapping japanese citizens to train their spies, https://allthatsinteresting.co So now you are an apologist/defender of Russia and North Korea, interesting.

Officially the North an South are still at war. They only signed an armistice to stop the fighting and exchange prisoners no peace has ever been signed. [Post edited 23 Jan 2022 17:02]

International observers have reported the Ukraine elections were fair and above board. The Russians appear to have a lot of troops on the border, they also have a faire few in the Crimea which they invaded a few years ago.

US troops are not there to defend S korea, S Korea has a big enough military itself. They are a remnant of the Korean war in 1950, i believe they have remained ever since

The US troops are there at the behest of the South Koreans, that is enough. The USA has not colonised South Korea, it is not threatening to take over as the Russians appear to be doing to Ukraine. They are there to defend the border and to make NK think twice about any other rogue actions. Even so the USA has less than 25% of the troops that Russia has amassed on the Ukrainian border. So what comparison is there to troops in a country at the request and agreement of the host country and troops massing to invade a sovereign state?
