Just like you don’t need Champions League qualification to have a successful season in the Premier League. If Brentford stay up, that would be a fantastically successful season for them. If Derby stay up this season it will be a fantastically successful season for them. Show me where you thought we would be promoted before the season started and I’ll listen to your point, otherwise you just continue to talk nonsense I’m afraid. |
And considering the quality of players we lost in the summer and big cut in finances then this season for us has been a pretty good outcome. Its all pending on how things were seen at the seasons start and its another debate but ultimately if that is what is thought or disagreed on.... Nothing was set in stone and its filed under an individuals view and opinion.

You think 16th is a pretty good outcome? That’s bizarre. Not that I believe you think that of course/ We gained huge talent this season. Piroe, Obafemi, Downes, Christie, Laird, Ntcham, Pato. We spent millions. Nobody expected promotion before last season, to pretend otherwise is futile. But feel free to show me you predicting such a feat.

I would have liked us to be in and around 10/12th in the league but that was my aim all things considered the seasons start, we are a little off that but not a million miles so I'm not really Suprised nor disheartened we are where we are...... All things taken into account. I should have ignored your question but you caught me in a good mood so I thought bugger it, why not.

I agree, should have ignored. Would have saved me having to read you saying that you expected 10-12 so 16th is a good result. Just senseless waffle.

A grey day out in Wembley for a totally one sided affair. It didn’t help that we were spoilt with an unforgettable play off final there two years prior. Last years visit wasn’t the same with restricted attendance and restrictions on pubs in Wembley. It didn’t feel like the playoff final.

How can you compete against a team that didn't compete, competition is a two way street. If they competed then it means we did too, which of course we did... they were just better.

I refer you to the answer on the Forest post. They didn't have to get out of second gear on the day, we were so awful. How can any Swans fan think no shots on target is acceptable? If Martin's team does that, you rightly criticise them ?

You are more than welcome to criticise the performance, but that isn't what you are doing. Show me a post where I have suggested Martins team ''hasn't competed'' or ''didn't care''. I criticise the performance, praise the opposition and certainly don't make up fairly tales of lack of effort or distractions.

No "fairly" tales as you put it. It is documented ( as Splitty showed you earlier) and is the opinion of many fans. If competiting is enough for you, then fine Swans competed against Brentford in the final, in the same way as they did when we lost to Forest 4 - 1, as we did last Saturday against Birmingham or the week before against Blackpool, away to Sheff Utd and Stoke recently. All of them were "competing" as in but bodies on the field and taking part, but none of those performances were acceptable. Martin is blame for those recent performances, exactly the same as Cooper is to blame for the farce at Wembley. Clear enough for you?

What is documented? Can you show me the lack of effort and distraction documents? I would be fascinated to see them. What do you mean ''if competing is enough for you''? You are more than welcome to blame Cooper for 90 mins of his 2 year Swansea career if you like. I blame Martin for lots of poor performances, but they are down to team selection and tactics. Sometimes I just concede the team we played were too good, even if that caused us to play badly. I'm not silly enough to pretend he doesn't care or is distracted by his two non footballing businesses he runs. [Post edited 23 Mar 2022 23:37]

Being obtuse again Doc. As you know Splitty documented the fact that Cooper was in the running for the Palace job. Brentford didn't cause us to play badly. They didn't have to. Have you forgotten them passing the ball around to cheers of "Ole" in the first half ? We were ridiculed that day. The same players who were good enough to beat Watford, Norwich and draw against Brentford a short while earlier, were ridiculed. You think that any manager should get away with that ? The only reason you defend Cooper is because you want to hold the opposing view. Not a valid reason

Nothing obtuse, you said it was documented regarding him being distracted and not caring. So I take it it wasn't documented then? As I thought. If I show documents that Russell Martin has other businesses, does that mean that is documented evidence that he is distracted? What if I show documents that Laudrup often used to go to Paris instead of be at the ground, would that be documented evidence of his distractions? I have no issue with stating we didn't play well and that Brentford were very good. That is what happens sometimes when you play a better team. I defend Cooper because he is a fantastic manager that did extremely well for us. Mine is the sensible opinion shown by factual evidence. Yours is nonsense based on a grudge that holds no weight under scrutiny, hence why you have to invent stories of lack of effort and distractions. That's the long and the short of it.

Doesn't matter who it was documented by. I am asking where is it documented that he was distracted and had a lack of effort. You don't seem to be able to answer. Nothing obtuse about showing that you were yet again talking rubbish.

How is it obtuse? I stated it was a nonsense notion that he was distracted and lacked effort. You told me it was documented. I asked where.... that is as un-obtuse as you could possibly be. I think you must think ''obtuse'' means asking inconvenient questions of silly statements.

You don't know what the word means. You just use it when you can't answer a question. I will take this as you taking back your claim it was documented that he was distracted and had a lack of effort then. As I thought (knew).

| Points comparison on 08:52 - Mar 24 with 451 views | cadleigh | Hope you don't mind me butting into your dialogue, but I just wanted to say a couple of things on this topic. First, I've always been sceptical about this idea that Cooper 'bottled' the end of last season and the play-off final. Same with Carvahlal at the end of our relegation season, or Laudrup in his last run of games. Teams lose their mojo for many reasons - sometimes key players lose confidence, sometimes there is dressing room conflict, confidence-sapping knocks we don't know about. As far as I am concerned he set out to win, but his team were not firing on all cyclinders well before Wembley and his game plan was shot with that rush of blood to Woodman's head. Second, having said that, most of the above DOES come down to the manager at the end of the day, even if they personally didn't 'bottle' it, it's their job to fix confidence, heal dressing room conflicts, ensure players are at peak performance, set up the team mentally as well as physically before big games. I thought it was the right thing for Cooper and Laudrup and Carvahlal to go. (At the time - I'd be happy to have any of them managing us now.) Third, given the above, how on earth can anyone defend Martin? If you think Cooper 'bottled' a handful of games at the end of a second, overwhelmingly successful season, and with hindsight you say he therefore wasn't the man for us long-term, then where does that leave Martin, who has been 'bottling' games since the start of this season and continues to do so. You don't need hindsight to see that Martin is a slow-motion car crash, it's happening in front of us. | |

Martin as Cooper and their failings are non defendable but the issue is that many are not understanding or accepting the limitations from last season that Martin has to contend with. I have said it before and will say it again, some say that we have a better squad this season and should be pushing for a play off place with some even stating play offs at the very least.......its totally bizarre. Gone past discussing it with those individuals, can't reason with stubbornes.
